Which was a good thing, since they had to turn away several guests that night. Our English Bulldog was welcome here as well, which was very nice of them. The menu in this Michelin restaurant is compact, but has something for every taste. It's modern french cuisine I'd say. We ordered a glass of local Riesling with our starters. There was a complementary Amuse-Bouche. A kind of cream-puff, but savoury with a creamy, cheesy filling. A really tasty appetizer. For starters we chose the Galantine duck and foie gras and trout carpaccio. Both fantastic choices. Wonderful duck and foie gras (mi-cuit), matched the Riesling perfectly. And the trout (pink/orange) was better quality-wise than most salmon in any other restaurants we know. High quality, fresh, highly enjoyable. For the mains we ordered the Veal shank confit and the Milk-fed lamb shoulder. Both excellent dishes. A bottle of red with that . I know duck confit, but veal confit (72 hours) was new to me. What a tender, juicy piece of meat. Actually: Piece of art! And the sauce...heaven! Confit is something you need to try. And this place here would be perfect for that. But also the lamb was wonderful. Equally tender, very smooth and with a rich sauce. You wouldn't even know it's lamb taste-wise, it was just perfect. There wasn't any room for desserts after this rich meal. A really fantastic dinner in a wonderful restaurant with a classic and cosy setting. It was pretty packed, so the staff was pretty busy. But they were quick and attentive, just didn't really have time for a quick chat or so. Price-wise it was fair. Around 150 Euros for two glasses of white, a bottle of red, two starters and two mains. For this quality? I would actually even say more than fair. A great place.

This is a small restaurant in the heart of Colmar, walking distance to the Cathedral…read more My Air BnB hosts highly recommended it and even made reservations for 7pm, just barely got a table. I met up with some American friends and we enjoyed one of the three course pairing dinners. We were a little rushed as they need the table at 8:30 which was surprising as usually they consider you have the table all night. We started out with a small appetizer which included fois gras (which was my first). Found out later that you are suppose to make a wish you for time, well that got wasted.. The rest of the meal was perfect. They assigned us a waiter who spoke English which was very helpful as we had no idea what we were eating. From my understanding the owner has changed direction here and has gone quite gastronomic. It was really special. Highly recommend. Must have a reservation.

We opted for the Prix Fixe menu as it was too tiring to ask for the entire menu to be translated and to enquire about food allergies. Amuse Bouche Starter: Foie Gras Main: Duck Burger Dessert: Strawberry Carpaccio The best dish was the foie gras starter this was neatly presented and gained an astonishing remark of 'this place was definitely worth trying' from a dining companion who rarely cares about food or where they should dine! The Strawberry carpaccio dessert looked carefully assembled was a light and refreshing dish to end the meal. The Prix Fixe menu at 38 euros was competitively priced. Service was professional, one waiter was able to translate the French menu sufficiently. As we were leaving I was amused to discover that I had been mistaken for an overseas food critic by the staff.

We ordered: * Salade printanière * Veal cutlet with egg, anchovies, and capers * Coq au Riesling with Alsatian noodles * Strawberry, vanilla, and coffee ice creams I still think about the Coq au Riesling here. It was brought out in an individual steel pot and scooped out for serving. The Riesling sauce was so creamy and smooth, and it made a great sauce for the noodles too. I am still slurping this sauce in my dreams after returning from my trip to Colmar.

Which turned out to be the smart thing...the place was almost fully booked. After entering we were accompanied to our table by our waiter. Our English Bulldog was welcome as well. Ordered a bottle of Crèmant d'Alsace (pink), Foie Gras (mi-cuit) and Oysters for starters. Both excellent choices. The foie gras was nice sized (two pieces), very smooth and tender. The oysters were soft and creamy, tasted very fresh. For the mains we ordered the beef steak with morels and sides and the Steak Tartare. The beef was pretty good, nice meat. But the highlight was of course the morel sauce. Plenty of wonderful tasting morels. The steak Tartare is pretty famous here and is prepared right at the table. A huge amount of the best and freshest raw beef. Never had such a big sized steak tartare before...and I've had many. And it wasn't just the biggest, no. It was also the very best Steak Tartare I've had so far. The Crèmant went very well with both the starters and the mains. It came together at around 150 Euros. Which is well priced for this kind of dinner. Classic french cuisine in a classic setting. Very cosy, very stylish. Friendly and attentive staff, great quality food. Really enjoyed our dinner here.

I wasn't on an adult vacation, though--I was in Colmar for the Christmas markets with my mom and my two kids, aged five and three. The whole town was packed with tourists on a Saturday, and most of the restaurants weren't great for my little American boys, who were not about to embrace the local Alsatian cuisine. We were happy to stumble on L'Amandine as we walked by St. Martin's church, the beautiful Gothic cathedral in the center of town. The restaurant was big, and we noticed people eating pasta on the patio. It was 5:45 and we decided to take the opportunity to stuff the children with easy carbs. The interior was spacious, and we were able to walk in and grab a cozy table towards the back of the dining room. The restaurant filled up while we were there, and the atmosphere was kind of fun and festive. The boys went a little crazy at the end, and it was loud enough that their noise level wasn't a problem. My three-year-old lying on the floor, though, was, and at one point, our waiter got impatient and moved him out of the way. Understandable, and service was otherwise pretty friendly, if inattentive. My mom and I shared a burger, which was decent, with a beef patty, cheddar, gherkins, tomato, onion, and burger sauce, and a little onion ring on top. It came with fries, which were also fairly satisfying. More importantly, the kids got a heap of spaghetti with butter, plus apple juice and hot chocolate with mini marshmallows for dessert. I skipped the hot cocoa but did enjoy a glass of pinot noir. If you're in Colmar during Christmas season and just need somewhere to sit and eat, L'Amandine is a good bet. There's wine for you, and food and drink for your children.

At one point, he went on a break without informing us, which felt unprofessional and rude. The food was of disappointingly low quality. The pizza was mediocre at best, the salad lacked flavor, and the dessert was bland, dry, and utterly forgettable. We had lunch inside. That place is quite noisy and didn't really look too clean. Overall: We cannot recommend this place. If you're unable to find a table elsewhere, you're better off grabbing a pastry or sandwich from a street vendor. Avoid this restaurant at all costs.
