Then again it is located in what appears to be Paris' hipster community, or at least the bohemian districts of the early 21st century. There probably isn't a huge about to say about this bar other than it is small, cosy, and has some pretty cool decorations on the wall. There wasn't a huge selection of beer on tap, but what they did have available was certainly satisfying. The bartender was also pretty cool. In a way it is one of those nice and quiet hole in the wall bars, hidden in the Parisian back streets, and is a nice place to simply spend some time, and it is pretty quiet as well (though that may have something to do with when I was there).

As was the dry sparkling white wine (served only by the bottle) that a very generous Jarvis Cocker (among the birthday attendees that night) was passing around :) Definitely a nice alternative to the loud, anonymous bars around Menilmontant that serve super mediocre beer and wine. The place is small, but it's festive, especially on a lovely night when the crowd spills out onto the sidewalk.

The menu said it had potato salad, so we were looking forward to that particular item. The planche arrived without potato salad. After a few minutes, we "dared" to ask the waitress if the potato salad was still coming and were snapped at in an extremely rude way that they didn't have any left. I was almost afraid of her! We then said that it's fine but that it would have been nice to know this when we ordered and she snapped at us again in an incredible tone that the person we ordered with was new and didn't know. The funny thing is that we had ordered with HER and NOT with the other (new) waiter, so we all thought it was really lame that she put the blame on an innocent person. After we told her that we don't want to be treated in such a rude way as customers, she brought us some cheese to replace the potato salad. She apologized later and maybe just had a bad day, but I'm definitely not going back to this bar. If you want to have German beers, go to Café Titon where they're always nice!

The vibe is very casual and relaxed. American rock and roll songs and classics like Michael Jackson and Bob Marley create a homey feel for American tourists like ourselves. We loved it so much that we returned for dinner the next night. We tried the classic 12 euro beef burger, which was solid and filling. Tasty fries, not heavy or greasy at all. Pork cutlets in white sauce and mash potatoes were solid. The steak and sauteed potatoes were divine. Keep in mind that the meat in Paris is chewy, and this is no exception. However, we still enjoyed steak both days when we ordered it. Worth the price. Especially if you get it as plate du jour, for only 13 euros instead of usual 22 market menu price. The duck salad for appetizer had a lot of duck! Very filling for an aperitif. Great as a part of mid-day lunch special. The desserts are made in house, so definitely give them a try. We loved the pistachio crème brulee, which was perfectly balanced and not sweet at all. Chocolate mousse was delicious as well--sweeter than crème brulee.
