I believe the menu changes all the time so recommendations may not matter but the salmon starter was divine, the duck and tuna entrees perfection, and the popcorn ice cream heavenly (the gazpacho starter and pork with morel sauce were exquisite as well). What a gem of an establishment! As Americans, the twin owners were extremely friendly, funny, helpful, and gave fantastic recommendations for wine and food. We had no complaints about any of the courses. The prix fixe was great value, and the ambiance of the restaurant is small and special. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Blois, and I highly recommend the croq chou, one of the top, if not the best dessert I have ever tasted! 10/10. read more

In the middle of a far-too-compressed chateau trip from Paris, we stopped here for lunch. Chose this spot based on reviews. Unfortunately my meal was forgettable. Service was friendly and efficient enough. No complaints there. I chose the plate of the day, which was a steak in red wine sauce. The dish was visually appealing, with artfully diced and presented squash, asparagus, and carrots, potatoes, and the sauce with shallots. However, the flavor was lacking, and the meat was unevenly cooked and tough in spots. The appetizer of 3 shrimp in a carrot-cardamom purée was good, but not exceptional. The presentation was outstanding. I also had a glass of very average house wine. My companion's fish with coconut-lime sauce was better, with nicely cooked scorpionfish. Verdict - this sounds terrible, but while the value was good for the meal (e29 total), I wish I had stopped at the bakery-cafe down the street instead as I expect the dishes would have been more flavorful. Either that, or my palate was just off during the visit. I've never touched the salt shaker in France before but this time, the flavors needed a boost. read more

Delicious and overall great experience. Excellent service, servers speaking English and French. We loved everything we ordered and the price was very reasonable. My favorite dish was my appetizer, tuna gravelax (seems raw, but cured, but not salty) with eggplant, olives, some other yummy saucy deliciousness. My husband had escargot which was also good. My friend had duck salad, which was good. We all agreed the tuna gravelax was the best. Then our main courses came. I had monkfish with asparagus. It had 2 different sauces, one of which was a butternut squash puree. Everything was cooked well, seasoned perfectly, and the flavors and textures complemented each other. My husband ordered the pork. It was also served with the butternut squash purée and a herby green sauce that accompanied the meat well. My friend ordered the duck main course, served with a savory raspberry sauce that was exquisite! I had a local Chardonnay; a full-bodied, yes a full-bodied white wine that I loved and paired well with my dish. Hubby and friend had a local red that was not as good as mine. Dessert was also excellent! We shared le crow Chou, something like profiteroles. It was crispy and tender with crunchy almonds and ice cream. We also shared the baba. It had fresh strawberries, chambord syrup, goat cream, and baba (sponge cake). So refreshing and delicious! If I had another night in Loire, I would go back! Try this place! read more

The service and food are well worth a visit. We were not only served by the staff but also by the owner who showed enthusiasm about the meals prepared by his long standing cook. I had the gazpacho, Duck and strawberry and cream dessert. All were excellent. The owner started us off with an appetizer on the house and finished us off with a port again on the house. We spent the day exploring a few Châteaus in the Cheverny area, and needed a place to eat dinner, before the drive back to Paris. We stopped into Le Castelet, and we are so very happy we did! What a gem of a find. 1st, our French is n'est pas si bon. The staff here was very patient with us as we struggled through the French only menu. It is actually very easy, as they offer a few different set price, 4 course meals. An appetizer, the entrée, cheese plate & dessert. My dinner consisted of a soup appetizer, white fish & veggies entrée, 3 cheese plate (goat, camembert and a blue) & a chocolate mousse dessert. All were AMAZING!!! We also had a recommended carafe of local wine with dinner, was also very nice. We had 4 in our party, and everyone has extremely happy with their dinners....which covered fish, beef and chicken options. A truly amazing experience. We will go out of our way to eat here again, next time we are in the area. read more

We had the most amazing lunch here. It was a warmer day and they had a gazpacho appetizer that hit the spot. Another that was a mousse style appetizer that completely rounded out the menu. My wife got a pork chop special and I got a T-Bone special. Both were absolutely fantastic. Our waiter was the most friendly, sarcastic person who we adored. His English was on point. Great local food prepared as one would expect in the region. The value for the area is exceptional; it was apparent that the neighbors felt that way as well. As a tourist visiting the area for only a few days we felt this an exceptional "find." The service was friendly and accommodating to our obviously American tastes and my broken French! A little difficult to find convenient parking as it was raining heavily this evening and our rental car GPS didn't recognize some of the one-way streets. There were two special entrees a fish and pork loin both outstanding. The wine list had a good selection of regional wines and reasonably priced. Felt like we were dining with friends in a small intimate setting; not an empty table. Great experience, as gourmet as you want it to be without the sticker shock. read more

Excellent, local food! The beef cooked in wine is to die for. The pork in goat cheese sauce is light, yet flavorful. We were recommended the Touraine Mesland, a red wine from the Val de Loire. It paired lovely with our meals. While service could improve, I still think this little bistro is a jewel tucked in an alley in Blois. read more

Warm and welcoming. Had a main and dessert on the prix fix. Excellent smoked pork in a pepper sauce and sea bream in a camembert sauce. I'm not a dessert person but we ordered the apple crumble and I chose the tiramisu. Being trying for years to like tiramisu even after many trips to Italy. However at this lovely restaurant I hit the jackpot. Two ladyfinger cookies soaked in espresso, covered in chantilly and a strawberry coulis. Topped with fresh strawberries and heavenly. As part of our trip to France we decided to add a couple days in the countryside of the Loire Valley, making Blois our home from which to visit a few chateaus. While wandering through all the modern shops and stores by the Blois chateau, I noticed the quiet appeal of this restaurant and a menu full of regional foods and wine. We returned a couple hours later and had our best meal of the 4 days we have been in France (only Paris up until today). The owner's(?) English is excellent, easily enough to work with us through some unfamiliar items on the menu as well as allergies, and ultimately she matched us with excellent suggestions for our entire meal. It was a little too quiet inside, with no light background music to help balance the sound of conversations and uncomfortable quiet moments, but otherwise the restaurant provided a romantic dinner with great food. Equally delightful is the relatively low price for the excellent food and quality regional wine. If you find yourself with an evening to dine in Blois, go here, you won't be disappointed. read more

We stumbled upon this lovely restaurant in our visit to Blois. It was late and seem like all the nearby restaurants were closed. We did not know what we were getting ourselves into, but boy were we in for a treat! The menus were in French only, but the owner speaks English. We had one of the best escargots we had in our 2 weeks in France here. For our main course, we both order the le pavé de boeuf Angus au poivre vert. It was marinated just right, in a delicious sauce, and cooked to our liking. Would highly recommend this place to anyone visiting the area! read more

This is an ace restaurant. Wonderful fare. We had a dozen snails, two excellent steaks with trimmings you don't expect in France, chicken pot au feu, fish of the day and a fat bottle of Pomerol for just over €100. Great taste, great value. The couple that run it were very nice and helpful too. Was a little bit quiet, suggest only taking kids who can behave. Great location too I n the old part of town. read more
