Came here to try the burgers... after a few beers we end up with a table full of American bbq !! A Smokey assortment of brisket and pork belly. Complemented with chips, sausage and pull pork. Could not pick a favourite! leaving with a full stomach we already have plans to come back and next time actually try the burgers.

Soooo I'm probably never going to eat Southern food anywhere else in Melbourne ever again. I will be saving all my gut and heart busting calories for Le Bon Ton. Don't get me wrong, the salads on the menu look pretty enticing. But no match for the pit-smoked meats and fried chicken temptation. Walking in, the vibe of this bar/restaurant is dark and moody. Low lighting, exposed brick, wall-to-wall beards and hoodies. Completely overdressed, we felt a tad 'bridge and tunnel' coming here after work, but that was just us being awkward Southsiders - it was in no way reflected by the staff. The service was great. They were all friendly, helpful and inviting. I assume the lack of lighting is to shield diners from the mess they have made of themselves tackling ribs and BBQ sauce. Back to the food. We ordered chilli cheese fries, beef brisket and slaw. We almost didn't order the fried chicken, but on a friend's insistence we did. I now love said friend even more, because it was easily the best I've ever had. That won't be everyone's opinion, not trying to incite challenges here - but for me it was spot on. Buttermilk soaked, crunchy awesomeness served with jalapeños. Love, love, loved it. The beef brisket was incredible too - served with pickled vegetables with plenty of condiments like house made BBQ sauce, really hot hot sauce, and tangy tomato relish. The drinks list is equally great and it would be a great spot to come for cocktails. Even their non-alcoholic list is interesting with options like Peach Sweet Tea and Watermelon Hi-Ball. In case you over indulge in cocktails and loose track of time, they serve food until late every day and until 5am on weekends. I can only imagine how good that chicken would taste at 2am at the end of a long boozy night! Now that my meal has digested, I'm ready to go back now.

I have *always* had a thing for New Orleans - it started when I read 'Interview with the Vampire' in early high school (the movie adaptation with Tom Cruise and peroxide hair almost killed it - but I digress) and it only intensified when I was fortunate enough to spend a week in The Big Easy a few years ago. Since then, I have always kept a look out for places that specialise in cuisine and ambience from the Deep South. Ladies and Gentlemen - welcome to Le Bon Ton - a little slice of New Orleans in the heart of Collingwood. On a bustling Saturday night, a group of us headed over there for dinner. Visualise beautiful wooden panel interior, darkly lit and lots of ambience. The place was pumping even for 7pm. One thing these guys specialise in is pit-smoked meats - true New Orleans style. Choose from beef, chicken and bratwurst - or get all three served to you on a huge platter for $45. Just don't tell your cardiologist. We collectively ordered the pit-smoked meat platter, deep fried chicken, chilli cheese fries, macaroni and onions rings. So much food, with so much delicious smokey flavour. Be warned the portions are huge! To top it off, they also serve pie for dessert, so we also gorged on a number of pies - the apple pie was my favourite. Keeping my fingers crossed they bring in Key Lime at some point as that's my all time Deep South favourite. They're open until 6am on the weekends and offer the oysters, absinthe and champagne all night, along with smokehouse. I am looking forward to going back and getting some late night southern action.

The ambience when you walk into this (dodgy from the outside) pub, is absolutely awesome. The funky old-school décor is a feast for the eyes, but the smell of good smokey meat that hits you WOW & YUM! We ordered a share platter of pit-smoked meat, The Smoker's Lot that contained beef brisket, sausage, chicken and pulled pork and some sides, coleslaw, beans, potato salad and fries. OMG! What tasty meet. Sauces were provided on the table, but the flavours in the meat was so succulent that there was no need for additives.

Apologies if you cannot see this photo properly over my drool

ALL OF THE STARS!!! American Southern/BBQ food has had a pretty big resurgence in town over the past few years, and while a little late to the party Le Bon Ton more than makes up for it its tardiness on several fronts. The place itself hits that sweet spot between low-fi & laid-back (exposed bricks, and still feels like a pub lay-out wise) and stylishly cool (moodily lit with some nice decorative touches), and is super spacious with lots of different nooks and crannies for you to settle into. To be honest though I could have been sitting among skips in the ally out back and would still give this place 5 stars for the food. We got burgers and chicken tender salads and beef briskets and each one individually was exemplary. Together = foodgasm. Good wine list, and the wait-staff member we had was top-notch and lovely - spot on with the recommendations. I hadn't finished the sentence 'What do you rec--' (ommend for dessert) when she shot back 'Banana pie' with serious authority that proved sage advise. I don't have a sweet tooth but that thing got smashed big time. There's some nice beers on offer and plenty of spots at the bar, I assume for those who just want a drink and light nibbles, so look forward to doing a pop in sometime to check it out a little more casually than a massive feed...who am I kidding, I'll have one of everything please!

We had heard about Le Bon Ton from a couple of values sources. So for my wife's birthday it seemed like a great idea. Entering the venue we were created by a old school character bar. Ordered the Hurricane cocktail (on tap) and wow!! Soooo tasty and fruity :-) Dinner was a wonderful assortment of American styled meats full of flavour, and fish tacos. Every bite was met with an abundance of flavour. Only downside, was on a very hot day there did not seem to be any aircon. We will definitely be back.

It's hard for me to review this place as I live in the US and I can't help but compare it, yet I'm aware that this is Melbourne, so american bbq/cuisine is going to be rarer more expensive and the portions much smaller! We ordered the pork shoulder and fried chicken. Both were tasty and moist. The pork was sweet, spicy and smoky. It was served with 2 slices of generic white bread though. We had asked what was the best way to eat it - as a sandwich perhaps? The waiter didn't seem to know and said the bread was newly introduced by the chef. Another waiter guessed it was for dipping and wiping up the leftover sauce. Fair enough... if there was lots of sauce, but there wasn't. And in my experience in eating quite a bit of American bbq, this is the first time I've ever seen slices of random white bread on the side. The chicken missed the crunch of real southern style chicken. It should be a thick coating of crumbs and CRUNCHY!!! That's what you look forward to with buttermilk fried chicken. Both dishes, I thought, were very expensive at $16, small portions and no sides. A friend had ordered fries... ordinary fries - and they were $7. Come on! For $7 I want to see something special happen. We did also order some oysters at $4 a piece. Excellent, fresh and served with a tasty vinaigrette. No complaints there. I'm sure Le Bon Ton is making many in Melbourne happy. Personally I find it expensive for what it is.

Best Southern BBQ in Melbourne. Every visit delivers excellent food and drinks, as well as great service. The smokers lot paired with an array of sides including mozzarella sticks, calamari, southern fried chicken and a salad, never disappoints!

Plus the option to have it all seated on top of a big pile of fries. You can save money for more beer at the Catfish bar on Mondays, when the cheesesteaks are only $8 or $10 with fries. Then add a little heat with things like the chipotle bbq sauce and tomatillo & jalapeno, or just play it safe and stick with the basic tomato sauce & yellow mustard. There is no way you're walking out hungry after one of these.

We were determined on this Valentines Day evening for a Melbourne BBQ redemption, and Ike's did not let us down. The jokes were just bouncing back and forth until we eventually ordered. I ordered a half pound of pork ribs, whereas the other half went the lamb ribs. Between us, we shared home made cornbread & a salsa dish. I honestly did not have enough time to grab my phone to check in on social media sites, and BANG!!! The food was served. There is no way to describe what sort of party my taste buds were having in my mouth, however this party could have made some serious money on cover charges to this party. The cornbread was nothing like I have tasted before, and after visiting diners in 34 American States which I have visited, this cornbread leaves the rest for dead. The Beef Fat Butter was awesome. My spouse didn't care for it but I adored it. - Grilled Wagu NY Strip was 330+ day grain fed which only intensified the marble and added so much taste. Not a bite left and it was almost 13 ounces of pure meat. It was perfectly cooked to medium rare (-) temperature. It came with a choice of a sauce and we paid for an additional one. The Three Pepper Sauce and the Beef Fat Bernaise. Both were awesome. I need the recipes! - GEM Lettuce Salad with radishes and dressed with a Burnt Grapefruit Vinaigrette. The vinaigrette made the salad. - Hand Cut Chips w/ a Garlic Aioli - another perfect taste. The chips had a great crispy outside with a very smooth inside. And the Aioli was addictive. Do no pass this great place by. We did not have reservations but should have. We got there early and they were slammed. We saw two empty tables and they offered us one by the front entrance. We eyed the other table and they said "if you can be finished in 1 1/2 hours...we laughed and said there would be no problem and probably be out of here in an hour! MeatMaiden was so upbeat. We just kept looking around in awe. Two old ladies eating in a basement. The atmosphere is awesome. Somewhat darkly lit but light enough to see your food. Very high energy crowd. Highly recommend and also recommend making an advanced booking. Enjoy.
