The entrance was so fun to find and is one of the coolest speakeasy entrances I've been to. After entering there is a sign in French that says to wait to be seated and our server quickly seated us. For a late Wednesday night it was not as packed so there were many tables around us. Our server was so kind and went above and beyond to help us with our first visit! She explained the murder mystery game rules and helped us with any questions we had. The game was so fun and a perfect activity for my family since we love board games and murder mystery games. Without spoiling, there's about 6 steps to the game and we made it about halfway through before we got too tired. You can take home the clues you've solved with you and it makes for a great souvenir. In the line of being a speakeasy, the space is small - there are only 24 seats but since we got there right at opening we were seated right away. The space is dark and intimate, with the bottles of liquor lit up behind the bar providing an attractive focal point. One of the more unique features of the bar is that there's no menu; we told our server the types of liquors we wanted along with the flavor notes and they crafted a cocktail based on our tastes. We ultimately had two rounds; my first drink was vodka-based and fruity, while I went with something gin-based and dryer. Both were very good - there's little fanfare with presentation; the bartenders let the drinks speak for themselves. This was one of my favorite speakeasies that I visited while I was in Montreal, and it wasn't super hard to find the unmarked Ryoshi sushi bar that it is hidden behind. Gokudo is a great spot to visit on a date or with a larger group of friends, with a chill, intimate vibe in a tastefully decorated, darkened exclusive lounge. I also enjoyed their cocktail menu, which features unique Japanese-inspired cocktails. My favorite was the Okame, which was a powerful, spirit-forward take on the lychee martini. Highly recommend checking out this unique speakeasy if you're in the downtown Montreal area!
