Great store. Nice selection. Now if only I knew where to take back my empties. When is Ontario going to bring back the Beer Stores?

Close to the Aylmer Marina (stunning views of the Ottawa River), Dépanneur Rapido is one of two famous convenience stores in the old village of Aylmer, Québec. Dépanneur Rapido has an abundant selection of domestics, broad selection of imports and an impressive array of micro brews. The walk-in cooler in the back of the store is extensive. Expect to pay about a buck a beer for most domestics. As it is to be expected, there is little parking available. You will be able to find parking on the streets. If you are planning on an abundant purchase, don't bring it up to the cash - let the cashier know and staff will accommodate you at the garage door. Pay and go! This has been my go to LCBO for awesome booze selection since my time in Ottawa dating back to…read more2004. Now I only frequent when in town to stock up on some delicious wines from the vintage selection in the basement and watch in semi-amazement on how quick you can rack up a bill here! Only downside and I'll mention it now is that the homeless people tend to beg outside or on the odd occasion get caught stealing here. One my most recent visit they had a security guard positioned right at the entrance. Probably a good idea they have probably had a steady stream of issues. No disadvantaged people this visit. It's unfortunate that they have this issue but not everyone can handle booze well! The Vintages selection is seriously divine. I usually can spend around an hour here browsing and perusing the aisles to see what's new and what's recommended by the staff. They do have many vintage staples and an ever evolving selection. On my visit they did have some tastings and some mini pulled pork sandwiches. It was a nice snack while I was wandering around! I washed it down with a sample of Trius Red. Very nice contrasting flavours. What the LCBO and this location does amazingly better than my provincial SAQ is have a better selection of wines under $15. You can find hundreds of wines in the $13 or less amount. There is also a decent selection of wines under $10! You can find some decent tasting ones at this price also! SAQ needs to stop being so greedy! Also the LCBO has and does a fantastic job of promoting Ontario wineries! I'll keep coming back if the selection stays fantastic!

This store carries almost everything the other stores in town do. If I can't find something at this store, the one in the south end usually has it. Between these 2 stores I can find most things that I want. The staff is actually amazing in this store. I recently went in to get some liquer from Columbia. I tried to explain the name to the person working the counter who was in the middle of helping someone else (he asked if he could help and I told him to finish helping his current customer but he said it would take awhile) when he told me how how down I wanted to walk and what the bottle looked like! I followed his directions to find exactly what I wanted!

I have never had a need to visit a liquor store while vacationing in Ottawa. It's partly because…read morewhen I feel like a drink, I tend to have one at an eatery. Otherwise, boozing it up isn't at the top of my list as a tourist. While checking out the Westboro area for the first time with a friend, we dropped by this LCBO to check out the booze. It was also hot outside. Hitting a liquor store where everything is nicely chilled would, in turn, make us chill... haha! It's a huge store. I loved seeing everything from Blackfly vodka frozen grapes, to hard iced teas. I especially loved the latter. It's where I tend to be at any liquor store. It's fun seeing new products. I also loved looking at the beer section. The artwork on beer, especially locally crafted, is incredible. I like the occasional beer that has unique flavours, especially fruity notes. The rum section was cool. I love coconut rum and coke now and again. It's nice taking mental notes on the next bottle of coconut rum that I should get. My friend shared her story about drinking for the first time. It had an element of quietly breaking a rule to get her first sip. So scandalous! My first drink story is dull and boring in comparison. I was of legal age (19 years old). I had a Monte Cristo (Grand Marnier and coffee). I was fine. I look back and the orange liqueur makes sense. I like fruity flavours in booze. The fact that I'm not a huge coffee drinker to this day and I chose this coffee-based drink is amusing to me. The cooler section also appealed to me. It was nice seeing familiar brands, such as No Boat on Sundays. It was enjoyable browsing in this store while cooling off from the heat. This store has a lot of variety. If I lived in this neighbourhood, I'd be coming here often and would probably live here. (296)
