It's easy to get overcharged…read morepretty much everywhere on LBI and I joke about LBI pricing in a lot of my reviews, but Acme was different. We generally stop in here before we even check in at our rental to pick up our foodstuffs for the week...you know, the stuff you just need to have around for breakfast, lunch and snacks. Acme has a great selection and better prices than some of the other places on the island. You can also do bike rentals here...which is pretty cool. Anyway, as long as we're renting on the island things always going to be one of our first stops.

We rented bikes for our whole vacation and it ended up being the best decision we made. I had a bike, my husband had one with a toddler seat for our daughter, and we brought my son's bike from home. Walking it was way too much--especially with little ones in tow--but the rental bikes were the perfect happy medium. They were comfortable, easy to use, and made getting around such a breeze. We loved them so much that we ended up extending our rental an extra day, and Acme made the process so easy. The family and I came to Seaside to visit my cousin who lives in the area. I saw these scooters…read morefrom Seaside Scooters while sitting out on his balcony. I'm the more adventurous one in the family and can usually convince my young adult children especially favorite son. Favorite daughter and hubby not so much. My cousin and I decided to check out the scooters prior while walking the dog to get a feel of the place. When we arrived we were greeted by Ray. He was more in love with our lab, but that was cool - a great ice breaker. Ray was great with answering our questions. Later that day the five us came back to try out the scooters. Again, we were greeted by Ray. He went over the cost and the paperwork. We then were greeted with John (the quiet one....he he). We have one in the family as well (favorite daughter)...so we get it. At first we weren't sure how to take John, but he was the opposite of what we thought. Both guys were patient and accommodating in walking us through the process of working the scooters. John who worked with me, my husband and favorite daughter was patient in making us feel comfortable. Never made us feel uneasy in riding the scooters. Ray worked with favorite son and my cousin. Ray even suggested areas to go to for that great sunset that I was looking for. BTW, my cousin took us to Lavalette Beach (beautiful town close by) and was wondering why everyone we passed was looking at us . Found out later from a lady who was following us on her manual bike that this area had never seen these scooters. She couldn't wait to stop us to inquire. It really lives up to its name and keeps all wind out of the poolside rooms. Speaking of the rooms they are good except the poolside rooms can get loud during the night.

Does the Windjammer Motor Inn staff come from big families? I'm not sure what else could explain…read morethe good Yelp reviews, as this establishment has the charm of an hourly rate motel. But, then, I'm not sure sellers of illegal guns, couples married, just not to each other, or teen-age partiers would stay here more than once even if you could rent a room for just a few hours. So, what went wrong with our June 15-16 stay at the Windjammer? Let me count the ways: 1. We could not check in upon arrival. A woman behind the desk told us to come back later because, she said, she did not know the check-in procedure; 2. I guess the staff member for whom we had to wait to check in was not out buying air freshener, because our room smelled of cigarette smoke; 3. If you are in the mood for afternoon delight or need a power nap, prepare to be disturbed because there are no "Do Not Disturb" door hangers. It was not a matter of our room missing one. I asked the front desk clerk, who told me the motel does not provide them. That's got to add to the romance of a getaway with the one you love, having maid service knocking on your door when you want to be alone with one another; 4. Speaking of Windjammer maid service, there is little of which to speak, as one look at the dirty bathroom tells you. Bring your own Lysol, and, for that matter, shampoo; 5. I didn't know there had been a Superstorm Sandy Clearance Sale at the New Jersey Shore, but that must be where the Windjammer bought its furniture. See the photo I took; 6. I neglected to take another telling photo, that of the Windjammer Motor Inn sign, which promises daily breakfast. The motel does not serve breakfast every day, as I learned when the desk clerk told me their restaurant would not be open until later in the season. If you're like me, the New Ralph Kramden in you wants to avoid arguing too much, so I didn't protest that their sign promises breakfast or ask why they can't at least serve coffee and donuts in the lobby. If this were my only problem with the Windjammer, I might have asked, but by then I knew we would not return. But, what do I know? The Windjammer Motor Inn is still standing, despite its considerable flaws. I second the recommendation of a previous review, which says the owners should sell to someone who could make it worthy of its beachfront location. If the next Windjammer proprietor is at least aware of the New Jersey Smokefree Air Act that went into effect in 2007, that would be a start.

And they're close to Beach Haven Inlet. My steering gear broke while I was drifting the inlet recently and they had it fixed in 24 hours. Nice.
