Layhilll is the worst place for a loved one to be. I've heard horror stories about people losing, their homes, bank accounts, etc. Well - I believe it. My love one is there - and they took her check without even informing me - because she owed $36.00. The finance office is the devil. I would give this place zero stars if that was an option. If you love your loved one, I strongly recommend considering other options before choosing Layhill Nursing and Rehabilitation. My experience has been deeply disappointing to say the least. The facility was not maintained to the standard I expected, and many staff interactions with patients and families were unnecessarily rude and unkind. I was especially concerned about the conduct and professionalism of Julian Nwokeu, who is the Administrator. He should be placed on leave until he has been properly trained to work with families and people in general. Unfortunately, there is a running theme throughout these facilities where a certain population of people have taken over providing care in these facilities, however, many of them are untrained, unprofessional, rude, dismissive and just mean, like Julian. He is the problem because as a leader apparently the staff take their guidance and cues from him and behave accordingly. He apparently has no cohesive structures and systems in place for running his facility and the State and all appropriate regulatory agencies. need to take a close look at him specifically and Layhill as a whole. Their approach to patients and families leaves much to be desired. Families entrust these facilities with people they love and expect them and their families to be treated with dignity, compassion, and respect. Unfortunately, that was not my experience at Layhill. A horrible place to bring in a love one. Residents are left unattended too even when attention is needed. Takes forever for anyone of the attending shifts to get moving and when they do they make it look like you owe them a favor. Pathetic optics from way up the leadership to down the line. At first glance the facility appears inviting. However, after your loved-one is settled-in it's a living nightmare. Sadly, after months at Layhill, the 3-months my dear mother spent at our home before dying---were far more progressive than any care received at Layhill. The staff is abhorrent and abusive. I have voicemails from staff that speak volumes to the greedy, bitter mentality these clowns embrace. Each and every concern was never resolved, but rather passed on to the next. I opted to contact elected officials because not ONE competent nor trustworthy administrator cared. Layhill is so understaffed that your loved-one may wait hours to be changed. Our dear mother laid on a mattress that had foam exposed! The bathroom light was out for weeks. When mom complained about being neglected, she was scolded and made to feel like a burden. The horror stories I heard after bringing mom home broke my heart. A majority of her pain post discharge stemmed from the staff's inability to treat her with the tender cere she deserved. I am so elated that we had three good months with Mom at home and that she did not die, in the presence of callous, mean and bitter staff at a facility that resembles the pits of hell. Do not be persuaded by promises and looks of grander! This place is a dump! The lies, excuses and inability to comprehend the most basic of issues are troubling indeed. Zero accountability at this facility. What is extremely important to these jokers is getting your loved-one's insurance benefits. And soon as those benefits are exhausted, they push them out with lightening speed. Layhill doesn't even follow the laws of Medicaid concerning proper notification. The staff is beyond incompetent. We received several notices from Medicaid that medical providers were triple billing for services! Most in the same day. Shameful. This facility needs to be throughly investigated by the State of Maryland and Medicaid too. I feel saddened by anyone that spends a single day at Layhill. Please consider alternate care. The nurses are self involved and lazy at night and the staff promises good care and don't back it up!!! Beware of this one.

I was a patient there for about 45 days and what a nightmare, physical therapy was for 20 minutes a day and back to bed you go, they put you on a cycle bike for 15 minutes while they leave you and chat with each other in the back and what's not right every patient gets the bike regardless of your disability, sometimes they get you early in the morning and you have to sit and wait for a bike to open up, after the bike you get 10 minutes of upper arm exercise and that's it, meals are real bad you cannot pick you get what they choose you get and it's small, ice cold and gross I choose to eat out most of the time to keep my strength up, couple of the nurses are pretty good but then you have the others, if you ring for help then you will wait a while, if your asking for medication then you will have to wait a little longer many times at night I would have to make my way on my wheelchair and go locate my nurse who is usually sitting down to get medication, I was promise a long term care bed but one day the supervisor came to me and said your being discharged the next day and I knew nothing about it so I went to admissions to find out what's going on and it was well your insurance company is discharging you a week from now and you either go to there sister nursing home or go to a shelter, I had no choice I couldn't look into the place to see if I would like it or not, I either go there or a shelter even though I had a long term Medicaid application in the process,the reason for this is because I made a couple of complaints, the very next day early in the morning the social worker was there to make sure I was up and had someone pack my stuff and about 1:00 pm. I was in a van with my stuff packed around me going to a new place and when I got there what a nightmare the place should have been closed down, no one should have been treated like this and with a disability. Patients there stay in bed all day laying in waste the 2 and. Floor is for long term care and most have a severe mental problem and stare at the wall or be sleeping in there chair, this would not be the place to go for yourself or a love ones, supervisor are usually in there office with the door closed and if your lucky to have one listen to your complaint they will blow it off and it will not go in your favor and at 4 pm. doors are locked and they are gone, nurse's really don't have the education to handle your medical needs, I have a super public catheter that needs to be flushed or it will get clogged which has happen twice, I would have to show nurses how to do it once a supervisor did it and floated the balloon that is in the catheter and latter that even it exploded and I had to go to the Hospital to have it replaced, also twice I had to call 911 for medical help and they refuse to do it. A family member has been there for a few years. The facility goes thru management companies constantly. Staff use patient storage to put facility items in. Clothes have been stolen repeatedly. The food is so terrible that patients who are able get food brought in. Patients are treated like stupid children. They can't hold onto staff, presumably because the pay and conditions are awful. It's a dump. One patient died because they refused to authorize the use of a diabetes drug that was too expensive. Owners should be in jail. read more

I have heard terrible things about this place. Residents end up with severe bedsores. There are some patients who died from severe wounds and bedsores in the past. Make sure you read the reviews in Google Map comments about Layhill!!! Its terrible... a lady just died from a deep bedsore from lack of care... Remove your family member before its too late. read more

I stayed here and when my insurance gave me the end date for their paying my stay, I was ready to check out. However, the facility said they would not legally release me for another four days. So, you guessed it, I stayed and had to pay those four days out of pocket even after writing the insurance company with all that was said. Yikes!!! read more

My deaf friend, wanted me to post this to share her horrible experience in this facility. Wish it is zero star, but it is acceptable one star. The overnight staffs and day staffs are mistreated to her, language derived, bad odor (diarrhea) from her roommate, horrible food, and she has to order fast food restaurants daily, which affect her financial woes. Service was poor. I was there for physical therapy but did not receive this for several weeks. I was charged for medication which I had to pay out of pocket which is not standard procedure for rehab centers. I spent most of the time in the bed which did not improve my condition. The only thing I can recommend are the meals! I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy! read more

ZERO STARS! Please do NOT send your loved one here. My father fell and laid there for over an hour pressing the button for help and later passed away from what we believe were complications from the fall. This happened overnight when the staff was not even busy, during the day it took often over 45 minutes for someone to answer a call from the patient. After my father passed away, I inquired with the head nurse as to why fragile patients didn't have bed alarms and she said to us "well we couldn't possibly have bed alarms for everyone who is a fall risk or there would be alarms going off all the time." No one really wants to have to put a loved one in one of these centers for any amount of time, but I was pleased with the way this one is. Had gone to Manor Care in Wheaton and that place is totally depressing. Genesis Layhill Center is clean, bright and airy. The staff seem friendly as well. read more

I had a terrible time with some of the nurses here. Don't get me wrong, there are some sweet hard working nurse/staff members here but for the rest, smh. The 18 days I was here I experienced nurses who did not know how to respectfully talk to me. They would often raise their voices, be snappy, and were negligent with their materials and administering pain meds or just using the IV pump. They often would question if I really needed my pain medication or not. If they felt I didn't need my pain medication, wether I was due or not, nurses would make up excuses as why they couldn't give it to me. The issues I experienced mostly happened during night shift. Night shift nurses were even bold enough to take naps during their shift! The center also has a pest issue. If I ever had to go back to a rehabilitation center, Layhill center is not it!! I can only imagine how the patients who can't or don't know how to speak up for themselves are treated. I don't not recommended going here or sending loved ones here. read more

This place is dirty and disturbing. The night my father was taken here, I found dried urine in his bedside table drawer and a previous patients' personal insurance info in the dresser drawer. My poor father also ended up contracting Merca here. I could go on and on and none of it is good. This place needs to clean up their act and treat patients with dignity and respect. read more

I do not recommend this facility at all. I was told that I am not a person but rather a patient. I had to wait for the nurse to bring my heart medication for 5 hours from when he was supposed to bring it. I asked why he was so delayed and it took me asking him directly three times before he would respond. Then he blamed the Rehab Therapist being in here, and me resting. Now mind you, other nurses will just come in no matter who was in there or what I was doing. In fact, they would often wake me up to give me medication. And they have had this nurse train other nurses and be the head person in charge of the floor. Very scary! Many patients just blindly took the medication handed to them. But I always looked at my medication, because the often forgot things or gave half doses of the prescribed medication. They were constantly running out of essential items, like diapers, wipes and barrier cream. Patients will always need those things, but whoever orders the supplies did not check the status of those things to see if more needed to be ordered. Also, the person who does th ordering always ordered too many small size diapers instead of look at what the current patients actually needed. And they always look for what they can get for less money. Even when many of those things smell bad, are flimsy or just plain inadequate. Even the tissues kept getting smaller and thinner. Short term care looked nice but people really need to see long term care. Two people were crammed into a small room. The mattresses were old, never replaced with new mattresses so you were always in a divot in the mattress, often with a painful bar under your butt. The beds did not go up to 90 degrees. So you never got to sit up straight in bed. When was the last time the beds were actually replaced? There was no way to communicate an emergency situation like a fall, a heart attack, or something else. I am sure that this would be abused by people but if it saved one person would that not be worth it? Not everyone was a Do Not Resuscitate patient, so for many, time could be the difference between life and death. And the food was bland and terrible. Many of the kitchen staff did not pick up the phone or speak English when you called, which was often, when your order was wrong or missing something. The menus were not made up onsite and the patients were never asked to provide input on their likes and dislikes. They would at one time provide adequate dressing for the salads, but it was changed to provide it in packets. One packet per person, and the packet was so small that it never was enough to adequately dress the whole salad. Everything was in packets it seemed. And they were even stingy on the butter and jelly. One each per person and you had to ask for the day before you got the food. They claimed to have Quiet Time but do not enforce it. Many patients sleep with their TVs on, loudly, and their doors open, so everyone in earshot has to hear it. The only way to get some quiet from the blaring TVs and the noisy staff talking loudly in the hallways was to close your own door. So you had to deal with other people being inconsiderate. First, almost no one speaks English as a primary language, which is disconcerting when you're discussing the medical care of a loved one. I stayed in the orthopedic wing in 2017 for about 2 months, after an injury. The facility is good, especially the private room and the yard view. The physical therapy training facility and staff are both very good. However, there are many difficulties encountered with management and operation. 1. It is very difficult to identify and communicate with someone responsible when needs arise. And when communicated, my requests were not follow through. 2. For several days the room was very hot. When I complained to the nurse station, they sent someone to the room, fiddled with some adjustments, and told me it would be alright. It turned out that the central air condition had a problem, which was fixed in about a week. However, nobody told us about the situation. 3. The doctor was none responsive at all. My questions and requests about medication fell into a black hole. Except for the admission interview, I have never seen him again. My phone messages were never responded to. 4. Overall hygiene of the facility is not good. The corridor smells differently depending on the day. Multiple hand sanitizer dispensers do not work. 5. It is not medically safe. Bed alarms are turned off without justification. Nurse calls remain unanswered for more than 30 minutes at times. When I was discharged, I was given somebody else's medication to bring home. Despite repeated requests from my family to the contrary, wheelchairs were left in my room without brake being engaged (an unsafe situation as I cannot remember to engage the brakes before standing up from the wheelchair). 6. According to my medical record, I lost 30 (thirty) pounds during my 30-day stay. Yet nobody seems to be concerned or did anything. 7. When I had a doctor's appointment and needed X-ray image, my son told several people about the need, including the nurse director and the medical practitioner. Yet, the image was not provided by the X-ray provider. When the issue was raised, the nurse on duty did not know what to do. My son called the X-ray provider and arranged to have image delivered the next day to the nurse station. Yet, the image did not show up the following day. The doctor had to take X-ray again. 8. People working at the nurse station are poorly trained. Nobody takes any responsibility. If you need something, they point to someone else. If you have a question and ask multiple people, you will get multiple different answers. In short, it is a facility that is poorly staffed and poorly managed. read more

Very dissatisfying establishment. There are only 2 good nurses who might genuinely care about the patients. Patients come from a hospital to get treated with care and comfort and this place had a very grungy feeling. They ignored any attempts of kindly accommodating family members during visiting hours, lied on patients, and were hesitant in giving valuable information such as who a patients day nurse was which if there was no foolishness going on wouldn't be a difficult answer.
