On a warm sunny afternoon, as it was on our last visit to both, the sensation of strolling through a Caribbean dockside market is hard to ignore, which further adds to its charm. Perhaps this would feel different if the weather were cold or overcast, but in its element, The Happy Mermaid works its charm effectively!
Inside, you'll find everything from socks, sunglasses, soaps and bath bombs, board games, toys and tarot cards, jewelry, candy, knick-knacks, accessories, and a selection of tropical and floral print shirts and dresses that would make Jimmy Buffett envious! Everything is surprisingly reasonable, even including the clothing, so don't expect to pay tourist prices here!
Between the Island Cafe and the Happy Mermaid, it's entirely possible to feel as if you've been transported away on a tropical holiday, right here in Portland. So if you need to get away from the drudgery of city life, grab a cocktail, take a walk on the docks, and pop in to the Happy Mermaid, where you can feel like a tourist for an afternoon. You could use the vacation!
