My first experience with Lavallette Liquors was when my cousin and I came in to buy alcohol. We had just arrived on a Saturday and were excited for a week on the beach. However, after paying for our alcohol, the owner - WITHOUT A MASK ON - asked the cashier to print out a copy of our receipt. Without asking us, he began to dig through the alcohol in our cart to make sure that we weren't stealing anything. At one point, when I mentioned to my cousin that we still needed to grab the ice that we paid for on the way out, he accused us of not paying for the ice and began to count our alcohol again. He claimed that we already had 8 items in our cart when my cousin politely tried to explain that we only had 7 (the 8th being the ice we still needed to grab). After checking our cart multiple times (throwing the cases back into our cart haphazardly), he finally realized that we were right and he told us he'd bring the ice to our car. The entire time his mask wasn't on. I felt too intimidated to ask him to put his mask on and overall just completely uncomfortable with how the situation was handled. This situation could have been handled so much more respectfully. Later that week we had a power outage and my dad ran out to get ice. Lavallette Liquors told my dad over the phone that they had ice but when he drove there they refused to sell him ice unless he bought alcohol. I am so disappointed with the service here. I'm writing this review in the hopes that the owner may re-evaluate how he runs his business. read more

Good selection of beer and liquor. Prices are higher than average but you are at the beach, it's to be expected. They sell cigars here as well which is nice if that's what you're looking for. read more

We purchased a home across the street so it's super convenient. I saw the BLM sign and the pride flag and could appreciate their showing of acceptance of all people. I guess people see things differently. Keep doing what you're doing!!! Shame to give a place one star based off your own bias. read more

So happy that this store is within walking distance of the house we stayed in this year. They don't have the biggest selection, but they have the necessities and more. The prices are okay. Better than most of the NY prices I'm used to at least. Convenient location in the thick of it all, and nice staff. So I went into Lavallette Liquors on May 23 to buy some beer and wine. I was very surprised to see the guy who rang me up was not wearing a mask and the guy who I think is the manager was also not wearing a mask. The mask law in New Jersey is still in effect until Memorial Day weekend, (next week). The guy who rang me up seemed to think it was OK to not to wear a mask because he was vaccinated. Rather than putting on a mask, he asked if I wanted someone else (wearing a mask) to ring me up. No I wanted this guy to put on a mask. He was really being obstinate. I also remember when I went in there last summer. I saw some staff coming out of the stockroom not wearing masks walking onto the floor. And some guy sitting a desk on the sales floor not wearing a mask. (Yes I have a good memory. ) And no one was vaccinated last summer. I'm regular customer from May through October. It would've been much more customer friendly if the guy at the register put on a mask, esp. since that was still the law at the time of my purchase. read more

I enjoy every minute in there. Not sure who is picking the music, but I like it! Truly a family store with great wine selection. Small cigar room is a bonus with top-notch cigars. Amazing beer selection. They even have an old guy named 'Coach' that works there...... You can't make this stuff up. read more

The convenience of this place is remarkable, so first, thank you for your location. This place is easy to walk to if you're staying at the Monterey Beach location. The staff were friendly and helpful. I will say that the organization of the wine was a bit skewed. There were sections for some types of wine... and then some sections were by region... and then one area was labeled reds and whites... ?? But we asked for help and they were more than willing to look for a bottle with us. I appreciated the prepackaged boat's head selection of snack food. They had a good selection of beer and liquor as well, but we didn't look over it much. We'll be back to check this place out again. read more

Best Liquor Store Ever!!! Staff is super friendly and is always willing to lend a helping hand. The wine selection is out of this world, and the little cigar room is perfect! Great cigars.... BTW during the black-out they still had ice. Staff always knowledgeable. One suggestion, I asked for some help with a bottle of wine and a young lady was super pleasant and efficient but when I asked for help with an IPA she was unable to assist. I was directed to another employee, he was extremely helpful. I guess he was the beer guy. It would seem more efficient if ALL workers were informed about ALL products. But this is only a suggestion. Great enviroment in the store and always leave with what we need. Also they need to order more shirts, we got a kick out of the ESSENTIAL TEE Shirts and wanted to buy 2 but they said they ran out in mid JULY! Also what's up with the Grateful Dead vibe ! Do not, repeat, DO NOT shop here. Their prices are at least 30%, and in some cases 50%, higher than where I usually buy my wine & liquor. My first stop this summer was to spend a $50 gift card from some friends. I chose a bottle of scotch that my guests could enjoy, spending $80. A couple of days later, I saw the EXACT same bottle in my regular store for a full $30 less - yikes! My second stop this summer (can't believe I went back in), I stopped in to pick up a bottle of chardonnay. I normally spend $11.99 on this particular bottle, and at Lavallette Liquors it was $17.99. The cashier asked "how I was doing today". I responded that I was disappointed at their high prices, and that the bottle of wine I wanted to buy was $6 more (50% higher!) than where I normally buy it, the cashier said, obnoxiously, "You are certainly entitled to your feelings." I was a bit stunned, but said that the prices didn't make me want to shop there anymore. He replied, again obnoxiously, "You are certainly entitled to shop anywhere you want." WOW!!!!! I entertain tons of people every weekend especially during the summer, go through a lot of wine, and WILL NOT be buying ANYTHING here ever again. TO CLARIFY: As a long-time homeowner in Lavallette, I make it a point to shop in town and support our wonderful local businesses. I gladly pay a premium to keep our shops in business. Excellent selection, knowledgable staff and cool decor. Surprisingly, fairly priced for the shore, even for my Frogs Leap Cab.

The prices are higher than if you went to TR or Brick, but again you are at the shore and paying for the convenience. The selection is pretty good and the staff is extremely helpful in assisting with any questions or offer some suggestions. read more

As far as liquor shops go, this place's selection is top notch. The recent addition of a deli inside is surprising, and really sets it apart from the competition. That being said, the deli staff is remarkably slow, and their sandwiches are understuffed and overpriced. Beggars can't be choosers, however. It's convienient, and the store itself has an excellent selection of beer and liquor, and a decent selection of cigars as well. I shop here often, and always come back. read more
