It's safe to say that I have "retired" that negative sense of my voice. Instead, Becca has taught me to remain open and curious about my instrument. My range, access, quality of timber--all have grown remarkably. My awareness of breath control and the smallest internal modulations and shaping of my internal space have all resulted in a profound improvement in the resonance, roundness and richness of my voice. Somehow, in a mostly passive manner, she has even taught me to read music (still in the early days but it's pretty empowering) as part of my vocal training. Paul Schuback sold me an instrument in 2018/2019 that was in "great playing condition" according to…read morehim. Over the next few years, the condition and playability of the instrument worsened drastically and when I asked him if I could trade in the violin for something comparable or if he could buy it back (modus operandi for violin shops), he refused to do either. I sent photos to experts / took the violin to multiple respected luthiers in person and the response was ubiquitous, the violin was not at all in good playing condition and would take upwards of $20,000 to restore the instrument into stable/ sellable condition. The last and final time I had him do work on the violin, the fingerboard was not glued onto the neck correctly and a new crack opened up on the front bout of the instrument. AVOID this shop at all costs. After all of these headaches, I am still trying to sell the instrument and I STILL don't have an instrument that I love.

He was careful and considerate of the condition of the piano yet gave it a thorough work up and tuning. He was honest about the issues we would have with the piano and how best to resolve or at least deal with them until we can get a newer piano. Mark was kind and easy to work with. He even gave my piano playing kids a mini lesson in the history of the piano and showed them how it works. I will definitely use him again to tune any piano we have in the future.

I traveled to Portland for a concert and had serious problems with my guitar at rehearsal. I…read morechecked with Martin for a certified technician and checked a couple of local guitar blogs and decided to call Barrett. He talked with me on the phone and he figured out my initial problem was a string issue. He didn't charge me and war very helpful. Because he was so helpful, I took my guitar to him after the gig to address a growing intonation problem. Barrett took the time to show me exactly what the problem was, a warped neck, and helped me deal with Martin to be sure it was still covered under warranty. He was able to repair the neck, a not so minor miracle, and I asked him to do a fret redres and setup as well. Bottom line is that he did fantastic job at a reasonable price. My guitar plays fantastic. Even though I live in Texas, where we have several fine luthiers, I will probably save my work for my trips to Oregon if possible. I cannot recommend Barrett more highly.
