I haven't needed a filling for quite a while, so I don't recall how long the actual drilling usually takes, but it seemed much longer than I recalled (30 minutes, maybe?). Not terrible, but it seemed a bit excessive, and then a week or two after I noticed I had increased sensitivity on that spot, which never happened before. I went back in, and they said it was likely due to the filling pressing against my upper teeth, so they checked the bite and drilled it down a little more. It is still overly sensitive, nearly a year later. Then, when I went in for my standard second cleaning, they ended up charging me for an additional "Periodic oral evaluation" beyond the two my insurance covers per year, because of the visit to fix the filling, which didn't seem right, especially since they gave me no warning they would. Also this "evaluation" was just the standard cleaning. I think the woman doing the cleaning was a dentist, but she didn't do anything other than the standard dental hygienists usually do. I know dental fixes can be tricky, but I am not impressed with the work as a result, and I am disappointed in them charging me without warning. I won't be going back.

For the first time in three years, I needed to cancel an appointment because of a family emergency. I was told I would be charged a $70 cancellation fee. I asked whether they could make an exception, but they declined, explaining that the policy was included in the paperwork I had signed when I became a patient three years earlier, which I don't remember. Rather than cancel, I rearranged everything and made it to the appointment. A month later, I received a letter stating that the practice would no longer provide me with dental care because we had been "unable to reach a mutual understanding regarding our appointment policies and related fees." That decision is what I find most concerning. This wasn't a pattern of missed appointments or repeated conflicts--it was a single attempted cancellation due to a family emergency, and I ultimately kept the appointment anyway. Healthcare isn't like most businesses. Providers have a responsibility to care for patients over time, and continuity of care matters. Healthcare providers are entrusted with more than delivering a service--they're entrusted with patients' health. That's why dismissing an established patient over a single attempted cancellation due to a family emergency felt so disproportionate to me. It suggested that enforcing policy took precedence over preserving the patient relationship and patient health. If you're considering this practice, just be aware that their appointment policies appear to leave very little room for exceptional circumstances.
