First time I was seen by the new doctor I was told I needed to get a cavity filled. Not a big deal but was interesting since I have cleanings done every 6 months and this is the first time hearing about it. During my procedure, multiple times i felt like the tooth on my opposite jaw directly across was being drilled for a few seconds at a time instead of the one that was supposed to be, then he would go back to the correct tooth. I didn't say anything because I technically was numb but you can still feel the vibration. Later that night, both the correct tooth and the one on the opposite jaw that I suspect was being wrongly drilled were both sore.

EVEN AFTER 10K CASH. Years later I am still dealing with the issues this dentist caused. Ive had great dentist since, my current dentist has actually apologized for the work that focus has done. Essentially after 10k CASH they implanted two posts too close together that NO DENTIST OR SPECIALIST can finish the implant work. I have literally been to multiple dentist and without teeth in these places has caused my face to start to fall.. I have reached out to FOCUS DENTISTRY and not only were they no help... and lacked all compassion, they also were holding 3k extra payment that I had to force them to return. This dentist should BE BANNED. My new treatments are going to cost me upwards of 90k because of this person. I am warning you, do not go to FOCUS DENTISTRY. If it goes well that will be by chance. The office staff are strange and weirdly devoted to this dentist, they refuse to provide information etc. I have filed a complaint with the medical board. DO NOT GO TO THIS DENTIST. I went to Newbury Smiles about three months ago for a routine cleaning. At that visit, I was told I had "deep pockets" in my gums, but no one mentioned cavities, an urgent treatment plan, or any significant issues. I was also never shown any X-rays, and I did not meet with the dentist -- only the hygienist. I returned in November for another cleaning, and immediately after the appointment I was suddenly told that I had three cavities between my teeth on both sides of my mouth and that treatment was "imperative." I was completely blindsided. When I said this was the first time anyone had mentioned cavities, the dentist insisted that I had been told months earlier -- which is simply not true. I clearly remember that conversation, and none of this was discussed. I wasn't shown X-rays at that time because they hadn't even been reviewed yet. The dentist only looked at my August X-rays in November and then accused me of "neglect." His exact words were: "Neglect adds up, and it comes in the form of tooth decay. You've done a good job, but now you have a lot of damage to repair." That comment alone was unprofessional, dismissive, and deeply unsettling. Then they slid a $2,500 treatment plan across the table as if this had all been previously agreed upon. I felt pressured, blindsided, and very uncomfortable with how the entire situation was handled. Something didn't sit right with me, so I went to a highly rated dentist at Westlake Dental Care for a second opinion -- a practice with consistent five-star reviews. They were incredibly welcoming and thorough. They were shocked by how few X-rays Newbury Smiles had taken and reviewed. After examining me and reviewing new films, they told me: * My gums are healthy * My teeth are in great shape * I do not have cavities * I do not need fillings * I do not need any of the treatment Newbury Smiles recommended The contrast was night and day. Always focused, caring and as gentle as possible. Our 18-year-old son has been coming to Dr. Shindler for a year or so. He's a soccer playing and got hit in the jaw, chipping a back tooth. Dr. Shindler took him in quickly and fixed the tooth. More recently, our son is in college in England, got hit again and had some tooth concern. I called Dr. Shindler to get his advice regarding going to NHS to have them see what was going on. Dr. Shindler was fast-responding to my call and offered his consult once NHS saw my son. Affectionately known as Doctor "O," she has replaced several crowns and has proven to be an excellent dentist for both of us. In addition to what I described above, I wasted hours of my precious time waiting and listening to the aforementioned doctor--speaking in a loud, irritable voice--as he apparently pressured other patients into agreeing to expensive veneers instead of suggesting they remineralize their natural teeth. When my turn finally came, the doctor was disrespectful and wouldn't listen to me at all; i was talking about my night guards, he sarcastically asked if I had bought them at Walmart. He then quickly left, and maybe 15 minutes later man from the reception desk came with a printout, hesitantly mumbling something--which I initially thought was about bone-material fillings. Everyone is incredibly kind and helpful. Dr. Helmstadter is gentle, patient, and takes the time to answer questions. He also personally called a few days after a procedure to make sure everything was going well. I've never experienced this level of care and thoroughness from a dentist. Would HIGHLY recommend!
