I wish that I had read this person's reviews prior to attempting to make an appointment. Of the 9 (I believe) that I read, only 1 (!) was at all positive. I also wish that there was a less than 1 star. In my opinion, this provider is star less.

I am a chronic pain patient. PART of my successful treatment includes my pain management docs prescribing narcotic pain medication. I also incorporate acupuncture, yoga, therapeutic massage, floats, chiropractic work, etc. I follow ALL of my doctors' recommendations and advice. That being the case, we decided that a therapist could be helpful with the challenges of living with chronic pain and auto immune disorders. I was referred to Laura Davies and made an appt. There was a telemedicine appt available on Wed. (today). I made the appt on Monday. I then completed the filling out of medical forms- history, medications currently taking, family history, etc. and looked forward to my first meeting. On Tuesday night, I got this email:
"Good evening. Thank you for making an appointment. On review of your intake forms, it seems that this practice is not a good fit for your needs. Please check with your primary care physician or current clinic for a recommendation."
Keep in mind that I DID get my recommendation from my current pain management doc. Also, there was no information about what I wanted to discuss needing an outside perspective on. I have been to therapy before and my eldest child is a therapist whose true calling is empathetic and compassionate care with no judgement for their clients. In my experience, a "fit" is best determined after a brief meeting, either via phone or in person for therapy.
After reading the (truly awful) reviews for this doctor, I'm sooo glad that I didn't waste a $400 appointment on her. Even though she advertises that she does psychotherapy, it looks like she is FAR more interested in medicine review for patients, doing radio spots, being a paid "expert" witness for trials, and other more "glamorous" pursuits. Her former patients say that she is arrogant and condescending, was late in at least two of the cases(and in both cases, then blamed the client for not being able to have a successful first appt.), elitist, and downright unpleasant. In my brief encounters with her via email, I concur. I replied after she canceled our appointment to ask what the basis was for rejecting me. This is what I got:
"Good morning. As I let you know, I reviewed the medical information that you provided have determined that you would be best served by a more in-depth consultation. My primary goal is to make sure that I provide the best care to my patients and telehealth services do not provide the level of care that I think you deserve. I recommend that you schedule an appointment with your primary care provider or a psychiatric provider who can provide a comprehensive evaluation."
She then provided links that she thought would be helpful.
My thoughts now are:
1. She isn't as careful as she claims to be, as she doesn't proofread her correspondence.
(There should be an "and" between provided and have)
2. How did she come to such a determination based on simple intake forms? Keep in mind that these are pretty basic. Medical history both personal and parental/sibling, current physical symptoms- very basic...
3. For patients dealing with certain mental health issues, a patent (paraphrased) "No, you're more messed up than I care to deal with" with ZERO evidence can be recasting! Imagine, being so dismissive to someone with rejection/abandonment/self-esteem issues!
4. Don't say you provide psychotherapy if your heart isn't really in it.
* I recognize that all this seems like evidence that I'm nuts, and it seems like SHE dodged a bullet, but keep in mind, all this didn't explode out of me until after she just told me basically to go away with no explanation or good reason.
Sorry for such a lengthy review. read more
