Still love Dr. VanK. However, she's moved to a cash-only, boutique practice (understandably), and…read moreit has effectively made it so I can't afford to see her, and finding a new doc is one of my least favorite things. If you don't have insurance, or only carry catastrophic, go see her, she's amazing! But if you do, the $200 annual appointment plus the yearly fee probably won't work for you. No matter how much I love her (5+ stars worth), I can't justify $200 for a 45 minute visit I'm already paying many thousands of dollars a year to have covered for $10.

I will start by saying that Dr. VanK was very personable and listened during my first appointment…read more However, because of a number of issues I cannot give this office or her a high rating: 1. When I scheduled I was told I could be seen in 30 minutes and was quoted a price. When I showed up a couple days later the appointment was 1 hour, price was almost double, and when I complained the Dr. told me that she can never see first patients in 30 minutes. Isn't this something they should have called back to tell me BEFORE I showed up, so I could decide if it was worth $220 out of pocket to go in? 2. Wait time was almost 45 minutes. I have severe morning sickness, so sitting all that extra time was not comfortable. 3. I was in to get a homeopathic remedy for morning sickness. About 45 minutes into the appointment, the Dr. told me that she figures out the best remedy using a computer program, which was not working. So, I had to wait 3 days to get the official recommendation. In the meantime, she said she could "guess" at the best remedy for me (which I took, and which did not help). 4. After several days of the first remedy not working, she gave me a second which also did not work, and then a third which made my throw up more. I'm not sure if homeopathy just doesn't work, or if she is just not that good at it... 5. Finally, the lack of assistance in billing insurance, even for out-of-network, and the high expense of her direct pay method make this amazingly expensive. I went on the recommendation of a friend and because I was desperate to reduce my morning sickness. This was a huge waste of time and money.

When I finally got to see the woman who calls herself the doctor (30-40 minute wait) she took five minutes out of her day to tell me that I am fat and need to lose 20 pounds (I weigh 135 pounds, completely normal for my height)...Literally in those words; her bedside manner leaves a lot to be desired. Whenever I tried to get a word in she would interrupt. She told me that African women who have eight children have to live with large breasts and I should be no different; someone who does not realize she is practicing American medicine, I guess. She also does not give out referrals for breast reductions; something that was not mentioned to me upon making the appointment. I could have saved time, money and tears if I was told she did not provide what I was asking for. Very unprofessional and just a rude human being; she is not someone I would recommend.

Everything went well and I was told to wait for a call for a referral. I waited for two weeks then gave them a call to see what was going on. The front office didn't send it out to the right office, then had to call two more times after that to get my referral done because they kept messing up. It took them a almost a month to finally correct it. Shortly after still waiting for my referral to my OBGYN I called them again for a referral for the bone spur in my knee that needs to get surgery on. The first time I called they said they will call me back for a appointment, I waited a while and heard nothing, so I called again. They had no information on me calling for trying to schedule that. I told them I would like to schedule a appointment again please they said the same thing, they would call me back, but this time the lady told me that Mary Kirker could just call for the referral and get me set up. I waited awhile once more and of corse nothing. I called for a third time exact same thing happened he said they will have her call for the referral and let me know what office I'm going to just wait for their call back. AGAIN Nothing. It has been a month and a half of being encored. So I called a forth time. This time a lady picked up (Mary Kirker who didn't introduce her self on the phone) and I told her what was going on. When she first picked up she already sounded turned off to be there. She told me I've never been seen for a doctor about this, not asking me if I ever have been. It was weird to assume so quickly. I told her no I have been seen for this in the past and if they said it gets worse I have to have surgery. (Bone spur is a extra bone growth. I have it in my left inner knee and it's so big the muscle has no choice, but to pop over the extra bone growth. There are times it is ok and other times I can't straighten or bend my knee.) She said immediately that I can't get surgery because I am pregnant, but I can schedule a appointment. 1 how does that make any sense to snap on me and say that, then try to make a appointment... Oh ya because you own the business and you are going to take my insurance money to tell me the same thing I can't be seen 2 that is a lie there are other ways surgeons can do surgery on pregnant people depending on where it is at. 3 you are not a surgeon which is why I need a referral to be seen by one. So after she told me I can't be seen by a surgeon, but she can make a appointment with me I had some questions on why that is and that I'm in pain and its bound to get worse with pregnancy. She got so angry at me trying to explain how bad my situation is she told me I was arguing with her. I told her I wasn't I just had some questions and concerns. She hung up on me. I thought to my self that was very immature and she must have had a bad day to take it out on me. I kept trying to call back to speak with someone else or even a manager so I could get this fixed and talked to them about what happened with this lady who I didn't know was the owner of the business. For 2 days I talked to the receptionist asking them for a manager or Mary Kirker. That's when I found out she was owner and manager. 2 days nothing not a single reply back. So today I decided to walk in sense I figured one of the receptionists was afraid of her actions and tried covering up what happened. I asked to see Mary Kirker. The lady at the front desk said to hold on. Finally Mary came behind the front desk where they worked. Already thought it was strange she wouldn't meet me up front to talk. I told her how my referral for my OBGYN got messed up 3 times and I've been trying to get seen/a referral for my knee. I told her about the lady who hung up on me. She told me that was her and that she wouldn't have me speak to her girls that way. She told me I should have made a appointment. She said again I was arguing with her and I told her I wasn't arguing with you on he phone. I was asking questions after you being angry the whole time. She said to get out of her office and don't come back. I said alright and I'm giving you a bad review. The only thing I said and walked out with my daughter. I'm so happy I haven't had my daughter been seen by her yet because Mary told me to put her on with her so I did. She wasn't bad with my child, but never engaged like most doctors would with children. I did find that more suspicious know I know the real Doctor Kirker. Her morals are not in line, the people she hired does not take care of thing how they are suppose too even though they where nice to me at all times, and I can't believe a doctor like this could be so close minded and be so unstable. I'm actually really fortunate for this turn of events because I never want a doctor who doesn't have her best interest for her patients nor ever handle my child for this matter.
