LOVE this place! It deserves every one of the five stars. First of all, it features a great menu of delicious tea drinks of all varieties. I love that you can choose your level of sweetness (how much sugar is added, measured in 25% increments) and amount of ice. Getting "regular ice" gives you a small portion of finely crushed ice that really cools down your drink without wasting half the cup with ice cubes. The atmosphere is a sunny, casual place that's good for hanging out with a small group of friends or get a bit of work done. The employees are always so friendly and helpful, willing to help you figure out what to order or give you a sample of something you're curious about. Cashier gave my friend and I samples of their lavender milk tea because we weren't sure if we would like it. It was really good, but I ended up ordering a house green milk tea with xian cao (grass) jelly--got a good amount of jelly and just enough sweetness in the tea. They have some other interesting flavors as well, such as ginger milk tea and rose milk tea. Bummer this place isn't closer to campus. The taste is relatively great in this college town. I ordered grass jelly milk tea(仙草冻奶茶) and it tasted like I had in China. Their curry fries with wasabi sause were dramatic. Latea is a cozy little tea shack located in Wabash Landing. They serve bubble tea, fruit smoothies, cookies, and sweets. Ambiance: Lovely! Unfortunately Latea's location is slightly awkward. The entrance is placed atop some rather unattractive looking steps. The store-front is unattractive and deceiving. Based on the entrance, it appears as if Latea's interior would be no larger than a car trunk, when in fact it's much more spacious than it looks. The inside is clean and comfortable with attractive decor and a relaxing vibe. It reminds me of the type of sit-and-study atmosphere found in a university coffee shop. Unfortunately, Wabash Landing is notoriously inaccessible. The parking lot is a one-way catastrophe with a tendency to be completely clogged with traffic. Attempting to find a parking space around the noon or 6:00pm peak hours can be headache inducing. Despite its less than stellar location, the inside of Latea is quite lovely. Staff: Competent and capable! I have called to place carry-out orders in advance, and despite a minor language barrier, the employees have always come through with exactly what I wanted - when I wanted it. Drink Quality: Average. Unfortunately, I was slightly disappointed with my very first sip. The drink was good, but I didn't experience an explosion of flavor in my mouth as I had hoped. Price: Average. I think I paid $3.75 for a smoothie This is comparable to other, similar establishments in the area. Overall Impressions: Although I wasn't blown-away by the taste of the beverages from Latea, I was very impressed by the cleanliness and efficiency of the establishment. I hate to be the first person to give this place a 3 star review. It deserves a 4 or 5, but the boba problem here needs to be addressed. Within two weeks I've visited Latea and they've been out boba. I've been told I can wait for 15-30 min. those times and it's been really disappointing. My wife and I just want the house tea with boba, but they're always short. If they can address this problem and make enough boba throughout the day then I'll gladly return, but it's annoying to get there and have this happen multiple times. Latea? This place gets BUSY. I was studying in the area and wanted to try their bubble tea and potentially study for a few hours (the free wifi was what made me think this was a good idea). When I walked in, the place was packed with no seating available. The line moves pretty quickly but the small space gets crowded as everyone stands around waiting for their boba. It was also extremely loud so even if there had been a table open, I would not have wanted to study there. Even just talking to my friend was difficult with the noise level so high. Latea is pretty cool in that you can choose your sweetness level and amount of ice which I really appreciated. However, I found their tea to be mediocre. I got the passion fruit black tea at regular sweetness with less ice and it did not taste like passion fruit at all. It was very slightly fruit flavored tea while I was looking for something with more passion fruit flavor. There also wasn't much boba in my drink compared to what I'm used to. I may come back to try a different flavor tea but I don't think I'll be making this place a regular stop in my routine. read more
