NOTE: It's no longer "Last Turn Saloon" - that closed and it's now "Last Turn Brew Pub" It used to be our favorite place to go - very cool old "speakeasy" vibe and vintage decor, good food, great service. The old place closed and has reopened as a brew pub (although they don't offer their own branded beer, just beers from various local breweries). The new menu is limited and many old favorites are gone (although they kept a couple of the sandwiches). The new menu includes very overpriced hotdogs ($12 for a hotdog?!) and the drink menu is limited. What we were mostly disappointed about though was that the atmosphere lost a lot of its charm with the removal of the beautiful old lighting and ironwork. The bar is still there, but forelorn looking without a full liquor assortment. The backroom is now closed (we think that's where the eventual brewery equipment might go?). Its just not the Last Turn as we knew and loved it, and there isn't enough there to bring us back in any more. read more

Stopped here on the way to brainerd for a quick bite to eat. Ordered cheese curds and quesadilla. Our food came out cold. Very disappointed. Nice bar but the food wasn't anything special. read more

Came here not for drinks, but for food, and we were VERY pleased. Food was absolutely AMAZING. Now one, if not our most, favorite restaurant to eat at. Boyfriend said wings were perfect in every way he can think of, and he's very picky with his wings. Our fries were cooked perfect, burger was amazing as well, even when we ordered it plain. My toasted dip sandwich was amazing, toasted perfect and the bread was just sweet enough to contrast the Swiss cheese and dip sauce perfectly. Portions are a great size, had just enough to take home. Just all around amazing. Waitress/bartender was nice and straight to the point as we like it. Price was also pretty decent. And the atmosphere is pretty cool, definitely that typical saloon feel with some modern bar design as well. Very pleased and highly recommend for food! read more

Nice alternative in the Brainerd-area to all the usual chain restaurants... Once you walk in through the front doors, you go down a set of stairs to the establishment. There you'll find plenty of tables, a bunch of booths that look down upon the tables, and an old-style saloon bar. Lunch menu had plenty of different sandwiches, and a few salads. Beer on tap, and I'm assuming a full bar. The sandwich I had was great -- a Last Turn Grilled Turkey Pepper Melt (subtract the peppers). It was delicious... pepper jack cheese, plenty of turkey, and some bacon. I substituted the marbled rye bread for grilled 12 grain. Service was friendly, fast, and efficient. Oh and they serve you popcorn when you sit down. It was really good popcorn too! :) read more

The Last Turn Saloon is a nice atmosphere to hang out and have a drink. We have been back a number of times and always enjoy the ability to hang out in the booths looking out over the bar area. The food is okay - but not great. It is a great alternative to other chain restaurants in the area. We like this place for the atmosphere and will be back. read more

Good place to go in downtown Brainerd. From the street entrance you walk down stairs to a quaint saloon and grill. Brainerds version of Cheers. Four of us sat at a booth on a early Saturday evening for dinner. The special that night was chicken alfredo that came with two pieces of garlic bread and was very good and a healthy portion. The others ordered sandwiches and the ladies were happy they could order 1/2 sandwiches off the menu. The onion ring appetizers were underwhelming and we wouldn't bother with them again. Wait staff was very attentive and friendly, plenty of refill opportunities. read more

I hate to even give it a one! Took forever for the waitress to come and take our order. She kept stopping at another table to talk with, what we assume, were her friends. Finally got our food and we were extremely disappointed. My husband's rib-eye sandwich wasn't even rib-eye steak, some other cut of fatty, very tasteless meat. I ordered the tortellini and the noodles were so overcooked they were mush! The Alfredo sauce tasted like it came from a jar. They even raised the menu prices since they added the restaurant next door and it wasn't worth it. So disappointed. The food and service used to be so good. We'll never go there again. read more

My dad and I stopped here on our way through Brainerd. He remembers going in his younger days too, so it's nostalgic for him. I think the menu said that all the woodwork was handmade by Minnesotans and that the buffet behind the bar is from the Pillsbury mansion. There are definitely lots of cool things to look at! I had the chili, which was rice with beans and others things on top. Not your regular chili, but I really enjoyed it. Hopefully I can come back some day and eat some more! read more

My favorite bar in Brainerd. Super cool old saloon atmosphere, an amazing old wooden bar, and it's one of those places where you eat peanuts and throw the shells on the floor. The food is pretty decent too, but I mainly go there to hang out with friends and to watch Packers games... yup, watching the Packers whoop the Vikes is even more fun in Minnesota. read more

Swing and miss. Sat ten minutes before we went and found waitress. Ordered. 40 minutes later wrong meal appears. Try again. 20 minutes the Chile Special arrives. The Last Turn Saloon in downtown Brainerd, MN, is a must-experience establishment when you're in the area. The sandwiches were extraordinary and the service was top-notch. Jilene was our waitress and has been with the restaurant for over 30 years. Friendly, courteous, and with a great sense of humor, she taught us the tradition of adding the popcorn to the beer cheese soup (exquisite by the way!). :-) Tom Hofius, owner of the saloon, came out to greet us and chat with us a bit. He provided some of the interesting history of this landmark in Brainerd and it made a really good lunch a great one! Thanks to the fine staff of the Last Turn Saloon in Brainerd. One of the best bars in Brainerd to sit down with friends at and get decent conversation without deafening music or juke box wars. The decor is excellent, the backbar is a transplant from the Pilsbury mansion, and the rest of the bar is very well done in lots of wood and tiffany style light fixtures. The booths are high walled and afford a good spot for small groups to have private conversations or a little solitude with their meal, and they have some nice circular tables on the main floor that can accommodate 6 comfortably and up to 10 or so if people don't mind rubbing elbows. There is a pool table/private room in back. Their food is good, better than one would expect from a bar, and has some interesting menu choices including specialty burgers. They serve free peanuts and popcorn, and have a policy of chucking your shells on the floor which gives it very casual atmosphere (and is actually great for conditioning the wood floor). It is of course a full bar and there is a decent beer selection, although a little sparse if you're a beer snob, and a few good single malts. I'm rating 5 stars based on the merit of the establishment, and the area it's in. In a smaller area like Brainerd, for this type of bar this is as good as it gets. Correction, 4 stars, rating anything 5 stars with yelp makes it a good bet it'll just be filtered and therefore a complete waste of time to bother writing. read more

This is a historic part of Brainerd, with a great atmosphere and the best staff around. You can get a burger or bar apps. But you will want to try one for the many great sandwich with one of there soups or a salad. You will not be dissapointed with stopping in for lunch and dinner, or just drinks! read more

This place could have scored a lot higher, if only the management knew how to run a business. I'll explain..... A group of us stopped in on a Saturday night for some food and drinks, some of us have been here before, and had good things to say about the place so we stopped in. The girl that had our table was friendly and good at her job, and the guy behind the bar made some great drinks (I had a spicy bloody that ranks in the top three Bloody Mary's that I've ever had!) and the food came out super quick and tasted great, at least mine did (a generous turkey melt that I had with onion rings as a side, super delish) Everything was going great, and we were impressed, then things took a bad turn. I asked for the bill as I handed the server my debit card, and she informed me that I am going to have to pay a 'convenience fee?' to use a debit card to pay my bill. I told her I didn't think that is legal, but she stated there is nothing she could do, and that everyone gets charged this stupid fee. She didn't seem to like it, and I surely didn't considering how expensive everything here already is. I paid it anyways (because I didn't have a choice) but if that's not bad enough, the really odd part happened next. I asked the server if it's ok for us to chat for a little bit, or if she needed us to move so she could turn the table (as they began filling up the place). She said "No, you guys can hang out and talk, it's just getting busy for Theology tonight.) I asked her what she meant by 'Theology tonight' and she said they have religious services there for the next three hours. HUH? YOUR KIDDING RIGHT? Nope. The girls and I hung around to talk, but after about thirty minutes, they began talking about the Catholic religion and literally PREACHING! I couldn't believe it. If you like to talk about your faith, fine, but DO NOT MAKE ME LISTEN TO IT. ESPECIALLY IN A BAR. The management OBVIOUSLY is trying to push their religion of choice on EVERY PARTON of this establishment, and probably the employees too. I just don't think, correction, I AM SURE there is a better place for a sermon, then in a BAR. It's sad too, because literally ten minutes before this our group was talking about how we loved this place and should meet here more often, but not after THAT. It's funny how quickly things can go from great, to horrible, in the matter of a half an hour. I blame the management though, they obviously have their heads in a place were the sun don't shine, if they think this is a good idea.
