Moving from Hermosa to Long Beach I wanted to find a barber. As a guy, I like a traditional style barbershop, not a salon. I don't like paying $25-$40 for a simple haircut either. I found this place on yelp right down the street from my house. I called up to find out the price, TWELVE DOLLARS. I thought "well the reviews seem good enough" so I went in. I should note, on the phone I was greeted by the most friendly gentleman, who told me "come on down, we'll take care of you". When I went in, I got the gentleman that I talked to on the phone. A little old man, wearing an awesome leather vest. You could tell he's been doing it a while. I was a little fearful of it though, as I was thinking he might be too traditional. Well I sit down, and know exactly what I want done to my hair (3 months since my last haircut, and I wear it a little short, so it was chaos). He looks at my hair and says "what would you like? Looks like 4 on the sides, inch off toward the back, half inch from the front, and a nice texturing". When I say this is exactly what I planned on telling him I wanted before he told me, I am not kidding. He looked at my head and despite 3 months of fast growing hair chaos, he could see what it needed. $12 later I walked out incredibly happy with the results. 10-15min haircut, $12, perfect haircut, I will be back here to visit this man twice a month at that price! With the low price, it makes it affordable to get two cuts a month, opposed to one cut at most other barbers. I happily tipped him $5 as I usually leave barbers anticipating a week of my hair growing out. Not this time. VERY HAPPY. And I am very picky. UMMM 12 bucks for a haircut and a old time barber experience. I LOVE going here and would go no other place to get my hair cut. It is simply fantastic. I hate doing this, but I feel I must: I moved to Long Beach and tried this place on the strength of the reviews (I, too, like the old time feeling). The results were pretty disappointing. The backside of my head was at least 1/2" longer than the top and sides. The line around my ears was about 1/4" above the tip of my ears. I was too afraid to ask for modifications--I just paid and left. My friends commented on how "off" the haircut looked, without my having said a word about it. It was an awful experience. Never again. All of that having been said, I've only tried one barber there, and there were many barbers there (at least 3 others), so my experience might have just been a fluke or particular to one barber. read more

I honestly can't believe that I've been going to this barber for going on 20 years this year. I found them after I had moved back down to Southern California from Sacramento a couple months prior. I needed a haircut and wanted to find a barber that charged a reasonable fee. So I looked at some ads in the Press-Telegram and found The Last Barbers listed. What caught my eye was that they only charged $6 for a haircut! I thought, what a deal, I have to check them out. The rest is history, as they say, and I've been a loyal customer ever since. :-) This barber shop was originally the only tenant in the space it currently occupies in the small strip mall where they're located. Now the other half of the space is occupied by a women's beauty salon. When I first became a customer of The Last Barbers, there were 3 barbers, all men. Now there are 4 barbers--2 men (one of whom is the owner) and 2 women. I usually go to the barber on Saturday (like I did today), which seems to be their busiest day. Even when it's hopping, the wait is usually no more than 10-15 minutes. I like how all the customers waiting around go on the honor system when it comes to whose turn it is when one of the barbers is ready for a new customer. One important thing I've learned about this particular barber shop is that they usually all take vacation the week between Christmas and New Year. One year I stopped by only to find a sign on the door stating the shop was closed for Christmas break, so I ended up going to another barber shop across the street. :-( I highly recommend this place to anyone needing a haircut. All the barbers are friendly and once you become a regular, will just ask you, "Will it be the usual?" The prices have since gone up to $10 for adults and $8 for kids and seniors. As the previous poster stated, this is a CASH ONLY shop, so plan accordingly. Business hours are 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Tuesday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Saturday, and closed Sunday and Monday. No matter how high the price goes, I'll keep going to this place. read more

I'll break this down into four categories: 1. The location: - The Last Barbers is extremely close to my house which made this an easy location for a guy like me who just moved to the area. The outside isn't anything fancy and doesn't really draw in new customers. In fact, I went to the subway right across from the barber shop several times while moving in and never noticed it haha. It wasn't until I searched the Internet and Yelp for this place I had no idea. Inside. The inside looks like my dad's room if my mom didn't prevent him from collecting lots of dumb nick nacks and stuff like the electronic singing fish plaque. It's dusty, cluttered, and you feel like you're walking into someone's old home who happens to also have a barber shop inside. The place just smells old which isn't too bad, but it's the honest truth. 2. The staff: - First off, no one inside the building is younger than late 40's. Not that, that's a bad thing, but it's certainly geared towards an older cliental. They have signs that say no cell phone use. I once watched a guy quickly send a text and the female barber just stopped and gave him that look of "oh I'll wait..." I get they want an older theme, but sheesh, if I don't want to watch Sienfield on the small TV or sit in silence, you're screwed. I feel like this is an dumb policy which will cost them customers. 3. The cut: - Depending on who you get, there's no issues there. I get a pretty simple hair cut so I can't complain. I don't see many people getting very complicated hair cuts and I've never seen a woman inside getting a cut. Take that for what it is. I've only been there about 5-6 times so they may be great at a variety of cuts, but I've never seen it. Most are 40 year old+ style hair cuts (comb overs, etc). 4. The price: - Considering another barber shop close by has a razor shave, hot towel, and excellent customer service with great cuts for just a dollar or so more, I would say there price is just average. Bottom line. This is not a place for the younger crowd. It's geared towards the older crowd. I'm not old enough to feel at place there and I'm too old to feel I belong at the expensive trendy places. The hunt will continue for a great barber shop like the one I used to get before I moved. Thanks for the decent hair cuts, but you'll only get 3 stars from me. read more

Terrible. The cut I got was not even at all, resembled nothing of what I asked for and was done so haphazardly that I wonder if the guy cutting it was looking at my head or the poorly decorated shop. It took every fiber of my being to pay this shop in anything other than a beat down. I feel so dirty for giving these people money that I earned. After forcing myself to put my money into their coffers I took my sorry self to Ohana barbers across the street where I have gone to before and allowed them to fix it. Thanks Ohana. read more
