From the minute I arrived I was impressed. The attention and genuine care I felt from every member of the staff was unprecedented. I needed emergency surgery the next day so I was admitted. My room was clean and the nurses were fantastic. Concerned as to who would be preforming my surgery I googled the doctor's name. 5 out of 5 stars on WebMD?! Yes please! I was so relieved! The surgery went well and the care I received the next few days before I was released continued fo be above standard. I can't say anything bad about this hospital. They are on their way to changing their reputation to something wonderful.

Then I'm told that her insurance information was never inputted after I provided it the day I made the appointment. I pull my daughter out of school early I leave my job early to be turned away and told the Dr doesn't take her insurance. Why wasn't this told the day I made the appointment!?! They even called to confirm me the day before and I was sent packing. I wasted hours of my job, my time and my gas as I came from Riverhead ontop of pulling my daughter out of school. A part of me feels terrible because the girls at the front desk were great and the first girl who brought me into my exam room was very sweet. They were great on the phone and took me in same day, but then the entire experience went downhill when the doctors came to asses my issue. I went in for ear pain. I explained my symptoms and told them, "I'm sure it's just a pimple in my ear, but I'd like to be safe and make sure." They check my ear and left to grab another doctor to get a second opinion. I hear them directly outside the door mocking me and calling me over dramatic. That I am "psyching myself out" and it's "just a little pimple" and they begin laughing to each other. I thought I must be hearing this incorrectly and being sensitive, but the laughing and mumbling that I'm pretty much making up my symptoms made me feel so beyond uncomfortable. I've never in my life felt so embarrassed and humiliated. These are healthcare professionals. I am simply coming in to make sure I am in good health. They then blame "anxiety" and completely write me off. It was a male doctor with blue eyes and blonde hair along with a short girl with long dark hair. I unfortunately do not remember their names. I always hated and felt uncomfortable in doctor's offices, and this experience will now worsen my outlook on the subject.

Then at front desk of ER, threw up again. No doctor examined, just gave her half a zofran for nausea. 40 minutes to get a head ct. now it's an hour. I ask About results as I saw this as an emergency before they suppressed the nausea. "oo it's down time" that's the response I got as if I know what it means. After I inquired what it means, I was told the system is down, 3 hours. "This is normal" I inquired this is head trauma, does she have a brain bleed and we're waiting 3 hours for results? "On no they replied, we'd know that almost immediately, they'd call down" of so my daughter is fine? From what we know they reply. they continue, "we are just waiting on the paper work. Wtf mind of system is this? Is this not negligent, nobody checked her eyes, airway, reflexes, NOTHING. I am sure this will cost a billion dollars. Then she rushed me out the door. I tried to ask some questions. She replied in about five words. Then she left the room to make more money by seeing more patients. She does not care about patient's health; works only for money. Dr. Nawaz is brilliant and kind, yet runs 45-60 minutes late. The Patchogue location has poor quality sensors for the water to turn on in the restrooms. The water turned on for only one second, off four seconds; on again for one second; then no more water at all from the faucet. I have never experienced such poor water sensors before. I almost began to bleed caused by so-called blood specialists. They seem to have no idea what causes eczema. My fingers within two minutes became cracked, peeling and almost bleeding from this location. Patients with eczema, beware. In general, NY Cancer and Blood Specialists has some good doctors, some not so good, and the quality of everything else is poor.

Guess I had no choice, surgery is T -3 days away! I was greeted by the most pleasant front desk staff there ever could be and the inside is brand spanking new with ample seating. If you come with a wheelchair it is easily accessible with automatic entrance doors, large door openings and spacious exam rooms. I bring my loved one to lots of appointments in a wheelchair so I am always hyper aware of this. This appointment was for myself but good to know if you need accessible accommodations. Anyway, I was seen by the most thorough PA, Elina, and she really went over all my medical history with a fine tooth comb to make sure there were no surprises on surgery day. I've only gone under the knife once at a different hospital, but it was nothing like this. They took blood work and did an EKG on-site which was nice, I didn't have to go running to a lab and have extra turnaround time. Having surgery is stressful enough but this was really a pleasant experience. I hope I never have to come back, but I do feel they took the time and had my best interests in mind. Kudos to Stony Brook Medicine!

My pre-surgical intake was handled with the same quality, knowledge and efficiency they were all just so sweet. The entire surgical team was just perfect. They'll get their own review My RN on the day of surgery was Ms. Lacey. She made me feel so comfortable and really took care of me.
