I'm starting to travel a lot to these smaller towns for work and figured I'd start giving shoutouts…read moreto these amazing places. First off, let me preface this by saying I grew up in Houston, and have lived in many major cities. Just moved to Chicago. This place is truly a gem. Order a side of the green sauce for your chips when you sit down. I had the top shelf margarita on the rocks and enchiladas banderas. I chose two steak, one chicken, and subbed the salad for refried beans. I don't like taking pictures of my food but the presentation and taste were equally amazing. Do yourself a favor and give this place a try if you're in the area.

They immediately served salsa and chips and they were also good! We were hoping that the food would also be just as good, yet unfortunately it was not to be. My husband ordered shrimp enchiladas- they were passable in taste but prepared very simple- just not what we are used to. The beans on his plate lacked flavor and were thin in consistency. My plate was a combo of taco, enchilada and chile rellano. The taco came on a separate plate and was in a store bought shell without flavor . The enchilada was lightly rolled corn tortilla around ground beef. The rellano was breaded and was served next to it. The entire plate slathered with red sauce . The rellano breading was of good texture and the chile was good but the sauce overwhelmed it. The enchilada; I could not. A very basic corn tortilla lightly rolled around ground beef. The ground beef had the consistency of - I don't want to say. I tried it yet could only stomach a bite or two. The meat had a strange flavor - perhaps out of a can? Anyway we both agreed- we would try other restaurants if we were ever in Orange city again.

The chips and salsa are spot-on and the food is always fast to come out, steaming hot, and tasty. It's a pretty big place with dining available on two sides. Definitely scope it out if you're near Dells (or even within 20 miles!)

One thing that immediately caught our attention was the building itself. Dell Rapids has a great deal of historic charm, and the restaurant is housed inside one of the town's older historic structures, which gives it a lot of personality before you even sit down. The atmosphere carries some of that preserved small-town character that makes these Midwest road trip discoveries enjoyable in the first place. The presentation of the food was honestly quite beautiful. The plating was polished, colorful, and thoughtfully arranged in a way that immediately raised our expectations. The dishes looked refined and carefully constructed, almost the sort of meals that make you instinctively reach for your phone to take photos before eating. Unfortunately, the actual flavors never really lived up to the visual presentation. That was the biggest disappointment for us. While everything looked appealing, most of the dishes wound up tasting fairly flat and underwhelming. Nothing was outright terrible, but very little had the depth, seasoning, or distinctiveness we were hoping for once we actually began eating. Service throughout the meal was decent enough, though the restaurant seemed somewhat overwhelmed at the time. There was a very large and extremely loud Friday gathering taking up much of the dining room and seemingly most of the staff's attention. It also appeared they may have been somewhat understaffed that afternoon, which likely contributed to the slower pacing and divided attention. Overall, the experience landed somewhere between average and slightly disappointing for us. Not actively bad, but not especially memorable either. The historic setting and attractive presentation certainly added points, but ultimately we left feeling underwhelmed by the food itself.

I thought about drinking the cup, but wasn't sure if that's rude...? I enjoyed how the cilantro and onions were served on the side; I was slightly disappointed that red onions were used. The tortillas were cooked appropriately and the bowl of chips was plenty for one individual. They also have horchata! Signage seemed to indicate this is a newer addition. For some reason the staff that served me seemed tense and nervous the entire time. They were never rude though and checked in appropriately. I'm glad I stopped in--their advertising on the blue sign on I-90 was a life changer...had simply planned on McDonalds.

Everything tastes like it was just taken from a can and warmed up in the microwave. Keep heading another 15 miles West on I-90 and go to El Tapatio in Brandon, South Dakota-much better food and atmosphere. The service was quick (microwaves are) as there were very few people patronizing the establishment. Nothing special about the decor or atmosphere. The service we had was friendly, so I will give them that, but I pay for food not talk. Unfortunately I cannot recommend this restaurant; there are better options.
