At this point in time there are three (3) what appear to be legitimate reviews of Las Palomas Center. It is a Genesis facility. There is more than one Genesis facility in Albuquerque. This review is specifically for the Las Palomas Center. All three previous reviews (April 2015, July 2018, and November 2019) rate this Rehab & Long Term Care center as a one (1) star facility. It was even mentioned that they would rate the Center as a zero (0), if they could. Needless to say, none of the reviewers were pleased with the care that they, or their family member, received here. I have a long-time friend who was first in the Rehab section and eventually the care she needed required her to be moved to the Long-Term Care section. Having visited there for a couple of months now, I would tend to agree with the previous three reviewers. The care is mediocre to severely lacking. I have met a couple of caregivers who genuinely seemed to be working in the best interest of the patients; but I have also seen a lack of empathy by some for their charges that bordered on mistreatment. These patients are primarily old and ill. They have lived full lives and now either do not have family who are in a position to physically care for them, or no longer have family nearby. Every time I visit, I hope and pray that the parent company - Genesis - looks at these people as more than $$, but as human beings who have contributed to the greater good of our world. I am giving them 2 stars, because I am hoping that Genesis steps up and corrects the areas that are lacking. P.S. It is a beautiful facility. Lets hope I will be able to update this review in the future to say the care is now "beautiful." In the meantime, if your loved ones need to be cared for, even temporarily, check out other facilities in your neighborhood. read more

If you like the sounds of call lights and people crying out for help, this is your place. Ultimately if you have an enemy and don't care how they are treated this is your place. Will detail when I'm released from triage in the ER. In the meantime, do not send your loved ones here. The nurses & techs, pt, ot, and other staff are amazing compassionate humans. Such as Stephanie, Tammy, Dorothy & more. Unfortunately, nurse Glen, pharmacy supervisor Zarish, doctors, and administrators are diabolical narcissists in charge of your care & meds. Unbeknownst to you, unless your loved one is knowledgeable, coherent, checks, & is vocal, your loved one may be slowly killed because they cut life sustaining meds cold turkey, or the dose such as your Prednisone from 32 mg to 15 mg, knowing you will go into a severe Adrenal Crisis if tapered or miss a dose. Although given instructions by the hospital not to taper, they tapered me drastically, the Fri & Saturday stopped giving me prednisone & other meds all together. They gave me only night meds in the morning and night, which cause sleepiness and drowsiness. read more

this facility should be closed down. It is filthy and the care is horrible. No one is taking care of the residents or following doctor's/admissions orders. My mother was ignored and rarely checked on by staff. The PT and OT workers were amazing but they are contracted out. There were 3 simple orders for my mother: assistance when moving about, x-ray on a lump on her wrist from blood draw, hot compresses on this lump. None of these were followed up on. Luckily, her family made sure she was taken care of. I feel very concerned for those patients who didn't have family in the area. Her roommate was completely ignored, laid about in her own filth until her advocate insisted she go to the hospital. She would probably have died if she had been left there. On top of it all, the "social services" workers were negligent in her discharge, and couldn't even fill her paperwork out properly. They ended up giving us someone else's discharge papers, eventually just whiting out the other patient's name and writing my mom's name over it. This other patient was wheelchair bound a with a history of drug addiction. This was not my mom at all. I will be reporting them to several agencies. read more

My sister has been at this place for about a month now for physical therapy, and I have to tell you she has a smile every time I visit. That's a BIG change compared to Genesis Uptown, which really is a shi**y place. All the people are really nice, staff and residents, and she says the food is good, that there's plenty to eat -- also a big difference compared to Uptown -- and that they actually listened to her and changed her menu because of her food allergies. She doesn't call me every other day begging me to bring her home from here, like she did at Uptown, and that's a big relief. read more

the absolute worst place to put a family member in. they will steal your clothes and belongings, do not reimburse you for "lost" items. they never answer the phones in the front. its absolutely horrific how they treat their residents. read more

This place is the worst!the administration is so full of themselves, it took me 2 days to discharge from there. I was admitted for physical therapy. The OT and PT teams were awesome-probably because they are contracted. When I arrived, I was given gabapentin and had an allergic reaction to it. I stopped taking it and no one questioned as to why. The first weekend I was there- myself along with several other patients were taken off antidepressants with no explanation. On Monday, my daughter let the staff know and it was corrected. To this day-no explanation as to why my meds were messed with . I had an orthopedic appointment on Thursday and their notes stated I was concerned about leaving this place and it was written that I would benefit from being home with family as I have support 24/7. I went back and asked to discharge and the social worker, Denise, was rude and threatening. My insurance case worker even attempted to call her and she would not pick up her call. It was excuse, after excuse, after excuse not to let me discharge. I agreed to stay one more night with my case worker. That evening, my family member was putting me back in bed and the nurse assistant took my dinner tray, I had yet to touch! Later that night, I needed to be changed. The nurse assistant changed my diaper but not the bedding. I slept in a wet bed all night!!!! Mind you, this place doesn't have any chucks. I had to supply my own or sleep in a soiled bed. Granted, my family already took all my things out on Thursday. The nursing staff never took me to the restroom, it was up to my family members to assist me. They always gave me my meds late. They were not educated on how to clean an X fix. One nurse wanted to clean my openings with alcohol!!!!! My family members had to clean them. I never got an update on my progress, other than from the PT team. Basically, all this place wanted was payment for me occupying that bed. I've been here with my father for less than an hour and it is absolutely garbage. It's dark, run down, loud. His roommate has zero consideration for others and the admin is so rude you can't even talk to them. It's taken over 30 minutes to find him a pillow and move him from wheelchair to bed. I would give them less than zero if you offered that option. I was a patient at this hell-on earth for a week. The nurses refused to offer any help or services, or follow doctors directions or administer medicines in a timely prescribed fashion. The afternoon shift was the worse of the three. I am an elderly physically impaired lady and was sent there from the hospital so they could help me learn to walk again. HA! The nursing assistants were the only helpful people and they were greatly overworked. The afternoon I was admitted the nurse assigned to care for me, said she would send her little "Slave" to set up my oxygen and get me settled in. I was shocked that she had so little respect for me and the nursing assistant. I saw the doctor who is head of the medical staff only once and to say he was disrespectful would be putting it mildly--he decided to get me in a political argument though I tried to avoid that. I don't understand why. A doctor I never saw prescribed aspirin for me, though I had just come from the hospital where the neurologist said I should never take an NSAID again. I think he was practicing cookie cutter medicine, not ever seeing a patient and never thinking of the patients as individuals. I have to be on a special diet, the head of that dept. finally came to visit me and said, though advertised otherwise, they only have one menu which goes to all patients. After a week there, with no progress made in any direction, where I was totally ignored medically, I told my husband I couldn't take it anymore. I had to get out of there. I got in my wheelchair and went to the front desk to tell them I would be leaving in the morning even if it was AMA. At that point I learned they had not even opened a file or record for me! Suddenly they decided they had to make a photo of me for their files, it was a Sunday, but late in the day they sent a PT to my room and she said, "Let's get in 20 minutes of therapy before I have to sign out." Then a guy delivered supper which was mainly two large severely burned meatballs. Morning could not come quick enough! Then around 8 p.m. they sent in a girl to draw blood. The uncaring attitude of the administration comes close to ABUSE. The only good thing I can say is that the "little slaves" as my admitting nurse called them who worked the night shift went out of their way to offer aid and comfort. This place should be sanctioned. I would give this place 0 stars if I could. Sadly, my grandma had a brief stay here last week. She was admitted for physical therapy to help her get strong enough to walk. She hated the place. They only got her up twice a day, she had to wait forever every time she hit her call light. Her roommate waited so long one night for someone to help her use the bathroom that she ended up going by herself, despite orders not to walk on her own. I listened to my grandma and her roommate complain about this place for an hour straight during my visit last week. Now, I understand that no one wants to be in a place like this, and I understand that old ladies will be old ladies, but I experienced first hand some of the incompetence. When I arrived around 6PM, my grandma's lunch and dinner plates had not been cleared and the room smelled like what I determined was macaroni and cheese with tuna. The room was a comfortable temperature to me, but the ladies informed me that they were freezing and no one would help them adjust the heat. I was able to turn on the heater for their room, which worked quickly. I don't know why the staff wouldn't assist with this. Each room has it's own space heater, just like most hotels. My grandma had asked for hot tea but was brought iced tea. When the guy finally came in to get her dirty dishes, I asked him to bring her some hot tea and he advised me that they didn't have hot tea. Ok, what? This is a nursing facility, what kind of nursing facility doesn't have hot tea? It's like an old-people staple. My grandma told him that they did have hot tea because someone brought her some the night before after a lot of fuss. The guy was disinterested and said he was pretty sure they didn't have it, no the definitely didn't have it. He didn't offer to check to see, etc. I was mad so I went up to the front desk (where they don't acknowledge you when you come in btw) to ask. I was told I could find some in the kitchen. About 2 minutes later I had hot tea in hand for my grandma and her roommate. I was extremely irritated that if I had not been there, they would both be freezing and have no hot tea just because the caretaker was too lazy to turn on their heat and look for hot tea?! My grandma and her roommate also informed me that they had heard a man calling for help for about an hour that morning, and no one came. So I don't know if this actually happened since I didn't witness it, but both ladies told me they heard a man yelling for quite a while and no one went to check on him. When someone finally came they said that he had fallen out of bed. Considering the lack of concern that I did witness, it seemed possible that this incident described my my grandma and friend did happen. Unfortunately, my grandma had to be readmitted to the hospital, but fortunately that meant leaving this place where at least she will get the care and attention that she needs. read more

I have a friend that stayed in the facility and I can only say good, things. She went for rehab and the staff was wonderful with her. Her nurses were attentive and the CNAs even did little things to make her feel more at home. The therapy itself must have went well because she was only there 2 weeks and back home nearly as good as new. read more

Please if you can place your loved one somewhere else, do it. I gotta say the staff I met were wonderful, but the environment is worst than you would find at a run down jail house inside. Outside is very nice, but by the colors and wallpaper inside has obviously not been remodeled since the mid 80's. Dirty, paint peeling everywhere. Entrance furniture worn and filthy. My mother in law afraid to eat because of the old worn plastic glasses she was served juice in. I had to bring her food in so she would eat. They have ice in the hallways in picnic coolers available to the residents next to the trash cans that line the walls and rumble down the hallways all day. No help yourself coffee except at meal times, which tasted old and cold. Her room was a tiny shared with another lady. She stared at a beat up wall with a blank cork board and curtains. They did not offer to help her to meals but expected for her to eat in her room. I had to take her to meals. they did not offer to help her change clothes except once when I asked them to and when I told someone her bed was wet, they threw a dry blanked on top. Worst than all it was Christmas Eve and I wanted her out of there. But they said she could not leave till the following week when their team met because they would not have their regular weekly meeting because of holiday. I could keep going but won't. Im still trying to get her out of that place. I made a big mistake by not checking it out before I let them send my family member there. ALWAYS CHECK OUT THE FACILITY BEFORE ALLOWING HOSPITAL TO CHOOSE A REHAB FOR YOU. read more
