I love Mexican food and I'm 1/4 Mexican. This place has been around since 1976 so if I'm a bit…read moreharsh it's because they should know better. I checked Yelp but I neglected to sort by date. Some of the best reviews were many years ago. I ordered the chile verde burrito, wet, and my girlfriend ordered the fish taco Friday special. Chile verde has different sized pork chunks in a delicious green sauce but the meat was inconsistent in size with most pieces being rock hard, or fat/gristle. No pieces were tender. Chile verde should be tender. I can make better Chile verde in an Instant Pot with pork shoulder and a jar of Herdez green salsa. I trim my meat well though. No surprises. The fish tacos were attractive. They resembled fish sticks though. They had a bread crumb coating, were cooked earlier, and reheated before putting in the taco shell. Not beer batter fried aka Baja style. The taco shells were soft yellow corn tortillas with the texture of flour tortillas. These tortillas were really good! Avocado and fresh cilantro was a nice touch. No special fish taco sauce was used, but might improve the fish sticks. Rice was a solid hit for both of us. We make it like this at home with shrimp/tomato bouillon. The beans were ok. I ended up "returning" the inedible chile verde and they dutifully replaced it with a different burrito. The service was 5/5. The place itself is clean and neat and spacious. No complaints there.

Fantastic food and experience!…read more Tried on a whim after a day at Sequoia, not expecting too much after seeing the Yelp stars, but all expectations were blown out of the water. Staff were immediately welcoming, personable to talk with, patient, and helpful not just to us but all other guests around! We sat at one of the many outdoor patio tables, which made for exactly the relaxing mood we needed. The complimentary fresh chips and salsa were finished before the waiter returned to take our order. Both are clearly made fresh, with the chips being very visibly cut, fried, and seasoned and the salsa being refreshing and slightly spicy. The wet burrito supreme was filled with tender, juicy beef shreds and topped with a red sauce packed with flavor. The chicken and mole was a delightful surprise to see on the menu, and it blew our minds! The thigh, leg, and breast chunk were wonderfully tender but still firm enough to not just become part of the sauce, which was packed with flavor, smokiness, and richness. The beef flautas were admittedly a little hard and the weakest plate on the table, but it was compensated by the rice and beans being nicely seasoned and cooked to the perfect texture/consistency.

Serving sizes on the burritos looked pretty hefty and they do have complimentary chips and salsa. Can get a little crowded on busy weekends, but they do have outdoor seating available as well. They have a shared parking lot with the small grocery store and pizza place next door. Camarones al Mojo de Ajo (2.75/5): The sides of rice and especially beans were actually quite good, but the shrimp themselves were blasted and just overcooked. Rubbery shrimp just isn't the vibe and it's a pretty expensive plate for how much protein you get. Fish Taco (3/5): Objectively, they aren't bad. The fish is flaky and not overcooked, but I was expecting fried fish tacos, not just slabs of tilapia on some corn tortillas. Caldo de Res (4.5/5): Unlike the other items, this soup was INCREDIBLE. Light and perfectly savory. The carrots are soft and the beef ribs are almost melt in your mouth fatty and tender. Would recommend this dish 10x over.

Do you own a dog? Then this is possibly your only viable location to stop that has actual grass…read more Everywhere else has wood chips or artificial grass. I've been interested in eating here for about a year. For about a year, we have been making Dunkin Donuts our mid-point stop on our way to the beach. Both to and from. That's because we always bring our dog with us. Plus my youngest always needs to "go" before we reach our destination.. Idk why I posted only this, but there's much more to talk about. Today, we pushed ourselves further than we should have and are in desperate need of food. The majority want Mexican, so I suggest Chalio's. There are other Mexican restaurants, but this one is in the main area and looks the most maintained. Looks can be deceiving though. Maybe at one time this was a decent sit down restaurant. Now it looks pretty run down. The restrooms are the most telling. I don't think anyone really cleans them. Probably just restocks them. The trash cans were overfilled, and the menu has also been taken over by bright paper covering old menu items and advertising new. Considering the size of Kettleman, this is par for the course, sadly. But the food. The food is great. We got the birria tacos and asada fries because they were out of nachos. What was supposed to be a quick to-go stop turned into a sit down because the kids asada fries took so long. I didn't mind. I was driving and needed time to eat. The birria tacos themselves were just OK in my opinion. Nothing a few squeezes of lemon wouldn't fix. But my friend from Ghana who traveled with us was blown away. He got the regular tacos, which have become his favorite food here in California. I guess if you've never had birria tacos before, these would be good. His eyes widened from his one bite, so it looked like he was experiencing something spiritual lol. If you're looking for clean restrooms and good Mexican food, park at Dunkin, do what you need to do, and walk over
