I had the club sandwich, usually that means BLT - but not this was something more special; bacon, cheese, chicken, lettuce, tomato and Parmesan fries. Wow. The beer was a bit expensive, 4-5 quid for a can of something American (Brooklyn, Sierra Nevada etc) - but given the environment, it's not a begrudging purchase. Feeling adventurous, my friend and I decided to go for Lucky Shakes after polishing off our breakfast trays. What a wild ride. Whipped cream, hot fudge, fresh strawberries (see mom? I eat fruit), a donut, and a strawberry milkshake....needless to say, I only had about a third of it before giving up, but what a flavorful third it was. Man, I really need to start eating vegan again. If you're coming here for the novelty of the shake, go light on the food - it could be an entree on its own.

All of the food seemed to have emerged from a microwave. The chicken wings we ordered as a starter were not bad, but not great either. They also don't serve Coca-Cola which was mildly off putting. When our mains arrived, I was given the "Combo Platter" instead of the ribs I had ordered. The staff acted as though this was my fault. The ribs, if they can even be called that, were charred and almost inedible at bits. 3 of the wings were burnt to a crisp, as thought the microwave had sapped all their moisture. The potato skins were flavorless, and the bit of salad did not help any of this. I would certainly give this little locale a miss if I ever return to Sheffield.

I am a sucker for decorations in my foam and the coffee didn't taste burnt at all( what a relief, so many places burn their espresso) It was a pretty close walk along the river from where I was staying but I noticed there was plenty of street parking around. When I walked in, I was greeted by really pleasant servers (one was an american, woot!) and they mentioned that they had free wifi (wireless internet) which really saved me! There were lots of tables and some outlets available for laptops. Seems like a good place to get some studying in. I will definitely frequent this place the next time I am in Sheffield.

I opted for a simple croissant and bottle of passionfruit Lemonaid (the only other place I've seen this recently is Ezra & Gil in Manchester, so I didn't want to pass up on the opportunity!) but the savoury food counter is really worth mentioning. There are bowls of salad piled high, sandwiches, and a selection of meats you can add to your selection. Everything looked really vibrant and fresh. My croissant was served warm with butter and jam, which is always a plus in my book. The warmed panatone my colleagues ordered looked - and smelt - delicious also. A really friendly place with bags of personality and warmth. The development of Kelham Island will presumably only be a good thing for them!

Staff are always enthusiastic and friendly the food is great but be warned portions are very big!!! They do some great cocktails too. Childrens meals are good too - My older daughter who is very fussy loved the chicken pieces and our younger daughter who we'd gotten the jumbo hotdog for didn't know where to start as they really weren't kidding when they said jumbo hotdog!! It must have been a foot long. They do goodie bags for younger visitors too which includes a colouring in book and some colouring in sticks (3 pencils, 3 crayons), a sticker book and a helium filled baloon to put the stickers on. Sometimes they also offer a deck of cards to entertain slightly older kids. Soft drinks with your meals are bottomless, so you pay one price and can top up as often as you want to. highly recommended.
