    The restaurant is upstairs

I had been here few years ago but it was a different tapas bar, and had changed name since and is now Cubana. Downstairs is a bar and you can seat outside too. We went upstairs to the restaurant and got seated without a booking. It was 6.30 pm on Monday so pretty quiet with 3 other tables. There was only 2 people serving and another person at the bar. I asked if they accepted vouchercloud code and she wanted see it, and wrote it down straight away saying it was acceptable. The t&c actually said I had to book!! Lol result ...a 20% off!!!! We ordered drinks and the tapas set menu which had plenty of food for two people. It was presented piping hot, a few dishes at a time. We couldn't finish it all but tried our best. I wouldn't eat tapas all the time but it's worth a visit.

This is a trendy place to go but the food does not hold up. Most of my friends had food poisoning after eating the sub-par food.

Great atmosphere and very lively. Smells a bit sweaty though from all those salsa-ing bodies!

Viva Cuba is a brilliant Tapas bar, far and away the best in Leeds in my book…read more It's easily missed really, inside an ordinary looking building that looks more like it should house a bank than a funky restaurant. Because of this, I had gone past it on Kirkstall Road for years, without really ever noticing it, but a group of my friends have been eating there every week for the last few months, and I wanted to see what all the fuss was about, so I joined them a few weeks back. It's the sort of place with that has an effortlessly cool decor and atmosphere - the dark wooden interior and loud (but not too loud) music are the main reason that the place has such an informal, relaxed atmosphere. Onto the food - I've eaten tapas in Spain a fair few times, and I have to say, this place recreates the real thing better than anywhere else I've eaten at, including a few places IN Spain. The usual dishes are present, but they all seem elevated to a higher level than other tapas bars - particularly the chorizo and the olive bread. Oh my. In short, it's authentic, it's cheap, it has an amazing atmosphere and attracts amazing people, and it should be tried by anyone remotely interested in tapas.

Been here a few times now and the food is always well cooked and service is spot on…read more The only small negative is, that despite asking our waitress if it would be possible to bring our 13 separate dishes to our table not all at the same time, as has happened before, she totally ignored our request. As I said earlier the food is delicious but with 4 people on a table with 13 dishes, you feel really cramped and a lot of food is cold when you finally get round to eating it. Surely it would make more sense to bring out 3 or 4 dishes at a time.

Also they have 25% off the bill between 4pm and 6pm everyday and watch for Tuesday and Sunday as this is student night where they get 50% off. It has a Mexican themed interior with a lively atmosphere spread over two levels. We ordered the Nachos Cowabunga sharer to start ,Nachos fully loaded with chilli beef ,chilli chicken ,cheese ,bacon bits, scallions and soured cream ,it was huge ,could easily do 4 people. For mains we had -Beef Buritto which came with guacamole, cream, black beans and rice and the Mexi Burger ,which was a 9oz burger covered in beef chilli served with curly fries salad and cowslaw. Both were very large portions and we struggled to finish them The food quality, service and lively atmosphere all added to a great experience, check it out.

The place was noticably more full today and the atmosphere was far better than my last visit. With all this in mind, I was left feeling far more positive about my Lunch and was glad to have returned. However, my Lunch came in two halves which was not good. My lovely large wedge like potato arrived nearly 10 mins after my wrap. The wrap was not a patch on last time and was not closed as I expect a wrap to be, as last time. The filling was falling out and it was haphazardly cobbled together- oh dear( Although a better experience, I still see room for improvement and have not upped my star rating I am afraid. But last time we went the usual guy who greets you and seems to be some sort of manager, wasn't there and the service was much slower. I ordered a steak and was unable to eat about 3/4 of it as it was all gristle. I was asked if i wanted it replacing but by that time I'd really gone off the idea. In fairness they did then ask if I wanted a dessert on the house which I didn't want either so we were given two free coffees. All in all we have had such nice meals there that I won't let this one time put me off and we will be going back as I love the atmosphere, decor and the style of food.

Once we walked in the host that came to the door at first was trying to tell us if we didn't have a reservation then they didn't have room....I was confused because even though today was one of days of Pride, their restaurant wasn't full at all. (Wish I took a picture). I then asked why we can't sit at the bar...the host wasn't sure so he went and asked the manager and the manager stated why can't they. Alright so my point lol. We sat at the high bar tables and they explained that you can scan the QR code or just order at the bar. The bar option was easier for us since it was a group. Made our order at the bar and that was simple. Now the 2 for 1 drinks start coming out and the first one was VERY lack luster. It was the passion fruit mojito which tasted like mint fruit juice. I did not taste a lick of alcohol. (Just an FYI the 2 for 1 drinks apply to all cocktails). We then receive another drink which I can't remember the name and it was decent but I was good with water after that one since it once again tasted like fruit juice. Once the food starts coming out, I'm excited! The guac and chips, they actually made it into nachos...apparently guac and chips with salsa is something people don't normally order....so after some explaining then they understood what was needed. When the Moqueca came out it smelt so delicious!! Oddly enough the appetizer came out with the entree as well. The one I tried was the mango and cheese empanada. It was pretty good...nothing to rave about. Alright back to the Moqueca, it was delicious. For warn you that you do have to de shell the shrimp and clams but besides that it was great! It's not 100 percent like the original but they did a great job. All in all the restaurant was decent. I do think they need to get their staff on the same page, and work on the ratios when making a drink but otherwise it was a decent place to eat.

We came here for dinner last evening and enjoyed a few appetizers including the garlic bread, chicken nachos, albondigas, chicken quesadilla, crispy cauliflower bites o which the albondigas and cauliflower were the hits worth ordering again on a future visit. For entrees we ordered the Gaucho steak and Argentinian burger, would not get either again. Drinks were all good and had a plethora available. We were left stood at the entrance for a good while before someone came over. We were shown to a table and handed a menu - no explanation of any offers that were going on, but as it happens we'd already seen a poster for 5 tapas for £12 outside anyway, it put my 2-4-1 tapas voucher I had ready on my iPhone to shame! We were given adequate time to decide what we wanted, then our order for food and drink was taken at the same time. Drinks arrived swiftly and the food followed some five minutes later. Everything was cooked beautifully, not overdone like I've had before, and five tapas between the two of us was more than enough to fill us up. The bill came to a very respectable £16. A bargain lunch, some would say! The service could be a bit quicker in regards to showing people to tables and the manner could be a bit less brusque. Also I'd prefer it if I'd been told about the offers - had we not seen a poster outside, we'd have gone for the 2-4-1 offer I'd had ready anyway - every other La Tasca I've been to has always said what offers they have available. Still, I'd go back. It was a pleasant environment (screaming child aside) and the food was delicious!

We started off with bread and olives. The olives were proper Spanish olives (not that tinned rubbish that some places give you) and the bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar was plentiful. The chicken croquettes left something to be desired. The fried white fish was crispy, light, and not greasy at all. The meatballs were plentiful and tasty. The vegetarian paella was the best I have ever had! The cheesy aubergines in red sauce was delicious. There were many vegetarian options. The service was great and friendly, our waitress was more than helpful. The food came out reasonably quick as well. Both the serving plates and the food was hot (very important). The staff tips are not shared - the waitress did share hers with the cook staff, which I thought was fair. All in all a great experience! I would definetly recommend this place, and intend to visiting again.
