I stopped by here this past Thursday with my wife for dinner. Our neighborhood has food trucks that come every other week and this week happened to be Las Chicas. It was a food truck and so there's not much to say about it other than it was blue and staffed by two women. For dinner on this day I decided to go with the steak burrito with hot salsa and my wife went with a steak quesadilla with mild salsa and then ordered a churro as well. We waited maybe ten minutes for our food to be ready and headed home to eat it. My burrito here was decent, there was a good amount of filling in it and I especially enjoyed the hot salsa which truly was spicy and really reminded me of Qdoba's hottest sauce. The steak inside of it was mediocre and some of the pieces were super tough. Finally the rice and beans were satisfactory. My wife thought that her quesadilla and churros were good and was happy with her choices. The bottom line for me is that I would probably stop by here again in the future. My wife enjoyed her food here and while I merely thought it was ok, they have some other things that I would give a chance to. read more

Las chicas was parked in front of soldiers and sailors with free food for election day! I couldn't pass up an opportunity to have some mexican food so I ordered a chicken quesadilla with mild salsa for free! For having a decent line, the food came out very quickly. I was super appreciative that even though it was free it was still the normal size. There were three different cheeses, shredded chicken, and the mild salsa was a green tomatillo sauce. We've eaten at the Las Chicas Foodtruck twice & had a great experience both times. If you're looking for authentic Mexican street tacos, this is the foodtruck for you. Both times I had steak tacos with cilantro & chunky salsa. You have your choice of mild, hot & chunky salsa. FYI the chunky salsa is very hot. I also had the Mexican street corn which was delicious. It has butter, Parmesan cheese & paprika. My husband had the chicken tacos, which were also very good with quality chicken. We finished it off with churros with cinnamon that we loved both times. Trucks were at a roundup at my workplace. Ordered the chicken burrito no pico, and hot sauce . Left and went to workplace an there was pico all in it and no hot sauce. I love cilantro but the cilantro on this tasted like a mouthful of Irish spring. Couldn't finish it . Could have been a fluke but I'll try them again at some point to see if it's any better . As a food truck connoisseur I felt inclined to try Las Chicas. I wasn't disappointed and I wasn't wowed. The caramel filled churro made everything great though. I gave it an extra star just for the churro. It's sweet and covered in cinnamon and it makes up for the oddity of the nachos I devoured. I liked them but I'll definitely try something else next time as the beans weren't black beans and I kind of expected rice or a special salsa. The chicken was well flavored though and even after I was full I found myself still wanting to eat the chicken. These guys also are very quick when it comes to taking and making orders. We visited the truck at Grist House on a whim and are very happy we did. Fairly large selection, incredible food. We got two burritos and some nachos and all tasted extremely fresh and cooked perfectly. Aside from the perfect food, the ladies running the truck were extremely friendly and made the entire experience worthwhile and worth coming back for. This is not just another taco truck, either. I finally stumbled upon Las Chicas food truck at a local beer fest. It's possible I just really wanted a burrito and wasn't entirely clearheaded as I ordered my food to go. But I still think it was tasty and a solid 3+ stars. Las Chicas looks to have a lot to offer when you see their menu board. Until you realize it's Mexican food which means 4 ingredients prepared 6 different ways. I was on my way home so I wanted something easy to transport that wouldn't be soggy by the time I sat down to eat it. My eyes perked up when I saw flank steak as a meat option and went right for that on a burrito with chunky salsa. I think what made the Las Chicas burrito stand out was the use of Spanish rice. It adds more flavor than your boring white rice and it was executed well. The steak was also nice and tender and along with the chunky salsa I selected, it was a good burrito. I wanted it to be bigger to satisfy my appetite (and justify the price). I'd have to say I won't go out of my way to seek them out. There has been a 'convoy' of lunch trucks recently in the Pittsburgh area, and today I had a chance to nosh at the latest entry into the Pittsburgh 'meals on wheels'. Todays contestant Las Chicas, was a mother daughter tag team that hit one straight down the middle. The staff a Stephanie and Amanda Morales, were very polite, and informative. They took their time to explain the menu and help me pick something different that ended up being great. The food was quickly prepared and in my humble opinion filling. For today's trip into the truck wars I had their Chicken Burrito and an order of two Tacquito's. The burrito hit the spot with its chicken, beans, rice, and sauces, it was more than up for the challenge!! It was good enough that I had another Touché. With that said, the burritos partner in this war on hunger fell just a little short. While it was okay, the Tacquito left something's to be desired. It appeared to be hmmmm missing something. Just what I can not say, it just did not do the rest of the meal justice. The sauce that accompanied it tried to make up for it, but alas poor yorick it was not well. It did not come on a bed of lettuce, no salsa, and no sour cream like the description. It was also very small. I was charged $7.50 for pretty much the worst Mexican food I've ever had. I've always used Yelp to search for food, never to review. After the piss poor experience with Las Chicas the last two times, I felt others needed to know. Las Chicas scheduled their food truck to come to my job a couple of months ago and we warned them that Monday's are a bad day to come to our work (most people bring leftovers from the weekend on Monday). Las Chicas insisted on coming anyway. We scheduled them from 11:30-2:30. They showed up and opened on time. The food is a bit expensive but I guess that's the norm for food trucks. The burritos were a bit soggy. The quesadillas and churros are probably the only good things worth purchasing. Las Chicas left at 1:25 after the big initial rush of customers from 11:30, 12, 12:30, and 1pm lunch shifts. They claimed that not enough people were coming out to buy food so they packed up and left before the 1:30 lunches were to begin. And the 2pm lunches also missed out. A month later Las Chicas scheduled again on a Monday to come out and then cancelled the morning of and never came, stating they didn't get enough business last time (yet they didn't stick around during all the lunch times). Now just a week ago Las Chicas scheduled on a Monday again (again we gave them the same warning that Monday's would be slow). Las Chicas never showed up and blamed our company for poorly marketing that the truck would be there and poor turn out the last time they did come. They were extremely rude on the phone. They claimed they never scheduled to come and that we didn't give them enough business. Our business complex has over 2000 employees. I ordered the chicken tacos with green sauce and steak tacos with green sauce. You get 2 corn tortillas filled with chicken/steak onion fresh cilantro and SPICY but a good spicy sauce! This was the strangest Mexican food truck that I have ever encountered in my life. The nachos were not homemade like every other Mexican place does. It said 'Jalapeno Cheese' and was extremely bland. I tried this truck at a food truck festival with sample-sized items. Las Chicas was serving pieces of quesadillas--chicken, steak, or vegetable. I got the steak one. While the meat was tender and deliciously seasoned with a little spice, the quesadilla was extremely basic--meat and a ton of cheese in a tortilla. Personally, I found it too cheesy, especially because there wasn't that much meat. I also wish there was more in the quesadilla. I'm not sure if it was because of the event that they didn't add anything else, but some vegetables or even some salsa would have been a nice touch. The soft shell was soft and held the meat in well. I like onion, but they may have went a little too heavy on them. However, the "hot sauce" that I got on the tacos were delicious. I tried Las Chicas for the first time this week, when they were parked in Oakland. Having moved to Pittsburgh from out West, including 6 years in Tucson, AZ, I'm always excited to try new independent Mexican food options in Pittsburgh. And those options have much improved in recent years, without question. I don't think I'll be adding Las Chicas to the list, though. The steak burrito, "fully loaded", was okay but not memorable. Both the beans and rice were flavorful, and the hot salsa had a pleasant kick. However, it was hard to find the steak. My biggest complaint is regarding the value. The burrito cost $10 when "fully loaded" (adding guacamole, sour cream, etc.). Overpriced Mexican food is not unusual in Pittsburgh, but still tough to swallow compared to the prices at top-notch independent places out West. And it's particularly hard to accept these prices at a food truck, given that they should be dealing with less overhead than a brick and mortar. Maybe I'm misunderstanding food truck economics, but the bottom line is that, sadly, I'm more likely to go to a chain--Chipotle or Qdoba--than go back to Las Chicas if I want a decent if unremarkable burrito while in Oakland. read more

The food was outstanding and the prices were great. Amanda and Stephanie were enthusiastic and so nice to work with during the process.
