And go over the quotes very carefully. I didn't and on painting day found out what I was expecting was not what the painters had planned. They did work with me and got started. But then needed more money because they needed more paint. Shouldn't the professional know how much paint is required for the job? I spoke to another paint company who was shocked I was asked for more money after they were half way through the job. Do I have the option to say no? Not really, I need the job done. Also the communication between the scheduler and the painting team seems faulty, as I expressed clearly about fragrance allergies causing migraines yet no one seemed to care and arrived with cologne and scented clothing. So 5 star painting please fix that, a migraine is no joke. The photo attached is the "corrected" crown molding ... this wobbly line at the bottom is after I asked it to be redone and it's just getting worse because the guy added more caulk over the mess made before and immediately painted under it. Now I need to hire someone else.

They decided it was too windy, they were worried about overspray. They rescheduled. I appreciated that the were worried about doing a bad job. They sent a consultant to assist on our color choices, which we thought went well. This person wrote down every portion of the exterior and what color we wished it painted. The crew was to power wash the exterior (Steel siding) removing the oxidation. After they power washed, we were still able to wipe the siding anywhere, with the oxidation still present. The owner assured us they would redo this, which the painters said they did not need to do and proceeded to paint the house. Prior to starting, the painters questioned us about what was to be painted, noting they had us down for nothing but white paint all around. We had to show them our color choices and our copy of the contract, which was completely different than theirs. Once we had things straight with the crew, they got the needed colored paint and began the job. As I was checking on the job, I questioned the fact t they were already using a colored paint for the first coat, which I was informed was actually the primer. They stated they color the primer so they only have to use one a coat of paint after that. I continued to monitor their progress, noting they only used 2 coats, 1 primer and 1 regular paint. The job they did looks nice, but needless to say, I am concerned about their failure to remove the oxidation as promised. We were told the job should take approximately 3-4 days for the whole process, adjusting our schedules to be there in case needed and to pay when the job was completed. The power washing took around 1 hour and they painted the entire house in 1 day. When we attempted to pay at the completion, we were informed the job was now $2400.00 dollars more than we agreed upon. This began a back and forth between us, the painting crew, the owner and the salesperson. Every time we spoke to to one of them, they came up with a different excuse for the price hike. It started with the coloring of the paint, which is free when you buy paint. Moved on to somewhere between 3 and 5 coats, noting I watched them apply only 2 coats. There were more, but it's giving me a headache just thinking about it. We informed the company we had a check for the agreed upon amount waiting for them and that we did not agree upon any price hikes at the end. The company did finally come and accept our payment, I hope this is the end . The crew did a nice job, excluding the oxidation issue, and I would recommend them, but the company, NO! They don't have an office, working entirely from their homes and phones. The communication or lack there of, is atrocious.

At 79 years of age it seems that I am still learning. In my early discussions with CertaPro of…read moreKirkwood/Ladue it appeared as though the work I needed done would be in capable hands. It was explained to CertaPro that I wanted to know the full amount for all of the work, which included the repair of some of the wood trim around the outside of my windows that were to be painted. The cost for the repair work kept getting pushed back, unanswered. I received the firm cost on the painting, but it did not include the repair cost. They were told again that I needed a firm cost on all of the work, including the repair work before they got started on the project. I explained that I was on a fixed income and needed to know the complete cost before they started work. On the day they were to start work they introduced me to the person who would be doing the repair work. After looking at the repair that would be needed he said it should not be a problem; just some wood filler here and there and a little patchwork that wouldn't amount to anything. Thinking that meant that there would be no additional cost I gave them the go-ahead to start work. Turns out the wood filler and little patchwork cost me an additional $353.00 above the agreed to amount. I begrudgingly paid the amount requested plus the hidden extra cost, but I will not be using CertaPro Painters ever again. Nor will I be providing the five referrals (two in the Manchester/Ballwin area, two in the Wentzville area, and one in Ladue) that I planned on giving them at a time when my expectations were at a higher level; before post job reality set in. Following are the list of reasons why I am disappointed in the way this job was handled: 1. Not holding to a fixed price as requested and discussed. I could have reduced the job size to keep it within budget. This was mentioned multiple times as we discussed and walked through the job beforehand. While on a fixed income I have to be very careful not to get over-extended on expenses. Incurring the additional cost has over-extended me. 2. I mentioned that I would be paying by credit card, and that was an additional fee of 3%. Which I also had to take into account. 3. As we walked the job in advance of starting work, with both the estimator and the job foreman, I asked if I needed to cut back any trees or bushes that might be in their way, meaning a holly tree in the front and a flowering crab apple tree on the south (right) side of the house. I was told by the foreman that they would just push them out of the way and/or cover them as needed. But just before starting work the foreman asked if they could cut back some branches on the crab apple tree. Caught off guard after discussing the issue earlier I told him yes. What I discovered after they had left the job were the pruned crab apple tree branches stuffed behind a retaining wall beneath the crab apple tree itself and the pruned holly tree branches in the front of the house stuffed under the holly tree. This is the tree they said they didn't need me to cut back. Later I found the removed window trim wood also stuffed under the crab apple tree. What perplexes me about all that, beyond the indiscriminant way the trees were cut back, is why they didn't just stack the debris in the driveway. This would have made it much easier for me to find, cut up, and back tree branches. 4. As we talked about the repair work, before work had started, the foreman pointed out that most, if not all of the wood window trim could be repaired with wood filler. There was no further mention of or adjustments made to the price after the walk-thru with the foreman. Not until I received the final paperwork did I realize there was the added $353.00 for the repair work. Disappointed to say the least. I had hoped I had found a company that I could depend on to do such work for me and others that I know who need such work done. The workers did a good job and worked hard in very hot and humid conditions. There were a few places where the carpenter/painter had to come back and rework some of the work he had done. And finally, when living on a fixed income a person needs to know the out of pocket cost of items up front, before committing to an expenditure. My budget is a tight one and requires much consideration when unexpected costs rear their ugly little heads.
