In fairness, up until a month ago I would have given them 4 or 5 stars. Our usual vet (Dr. Young) no longer does surgeries, so we used Dr. Stefanick when our cat needed spayed 2 years ago. They were a lot cheaper than other places, and I figured I would try them. They did a good job and seemed pleasant enough, and I had recommended them to other people. Recently though, I had to take our 6 month-old pit in to get neutered. (By the way, he absolutely is the friendliest dog, 0 aggression towards either animals or humans; he may lick your face if you get too close though!) The lady at the desk asked me what breed he was, and I answered "American Bully", which he is. The lady looked over the desk, said "that doesn't look like an American Bulldog," so I explained that an American bully is a different breed, it is a hybrid pit bull that is bred down for size to be short and stockier, with a good temperament. She sighed heavily and looked down to her paper and said "Oh, that's just what they need, to be shorter and stockier so they can pull harder." Strike 1, and looking back, I wish I would've left then and gave her a piece of my mind, but I didn't. Dr. S comes out to the desk, she shows him my intake form and points directly to the breed, and says "he's a pit." So the doctor calls me back, and has me lift the puppy up onto the scale (which was fine with me). But then, after he gets his weight, the doctor proceeds to shave his front arm and put the anesthetic in. I was beyond confused, because I have never been present when any of our animals were anesthetized. Slowly his body became limp and I lowered him onto the metal scale. His little eyes were still open at the time, and he looked at me absolutely terrified. I understand that this is what would have happened even if I wasn't there, but as an owner, that was my baby and I would have preferred not to watch that. It was definitely not a good way to start my day and I was in tears by the time I got in my car. I was sick to my stomach the whole day at work wondering how they would treat him while I was not there. Around 2:30 I called to check up on him. The lady who answered the phone coldly said "he's fine," in the same tone you would expect your mechanic to tell you that your vehicle was fine after an inspection. I will say, I learned my lesson. I would much rather spend twice as much money and have a vet and vet staff that treat my animal well, than to save some money and deal with Stefanick ever again. Dr. Young's office staff is wonderful with our puppy. They are kind and are happy to see him and pet him when he comes in, not cold and harsh like the treatment we got at Stefanick. I would never again recommend Stefanick to anyone, especially if you have any bully breed or a breed of dogs that might be misperceived, because this office definitely falls into the category of ignorance when it comes to breeds. read more
