I went to Large & Large for about 11 years, and they're okay for ordering glasses, as they have a wide range of both high-street brands and high-end designer ones. They like to give discounts to regular customers, and the staff are extremely friendly. However, the receptionist is quite the dud - for over 7 years I regularly ordered the same types of contact lenses (Acuvue) every month, and each time she would either order the wrong power lenses, the wrong amount, the wrong colour or the wrong brand. Sometimes the lenses would even be broken. After a while the contact lens supplier (an external supplier) said he would accept no more returns, so I was stuck with many the wrong brand/broken lenses etc. The final straw was when the receptionist ordered Focus Dailies, a brand I'd never even tried or mentioned, and both she and the manager had the nerve to tell me that this brand was what I'd been ordering for the past 7 years every month! I showed them receipts and previous empty boxes of my Acuvue orders, but the receptionist stuck to her story but then apologised. Since then I've been with Vision Express, who order my lenses and deliver them within 3 days. I'd have to wait at least a week at Large & Large, and it would take up to three weeks because of delays due to the receptionist's idiocy and incompetence. Last year I needed my first pair of glasses. Having first visited some of the larger and somewhat impersonal high street chains where BOGOF and other incentives are always on offer, I quickly decided instead to go to the local opticians Large and Large in Waterlooville, where hopefully I might receive a more personal and tailored service. I wasn't disappointed, the service was nothing short of excellent. My eye test was quickly arranged and having chosen the frames my first pair of glasses were duly ordered . I then bowled a fast ball and asked if there was any possibility if they could be ready within the week as I was shortly going on holiday. I didn't expect there to be much prospect of this happening as it was such short notice, but I received a call the day before I was due to leave to say that they were ready. Excellent service indeed. My wife recently ordered her first pair of glasses and all the staff at Large and Large have been most helpful and friendly. As I have a specific ongoing eye problem, the advice and guidance on which lenses would be best for my eyes is very important to me and I have to say that the help I have continued to receive has been first class. So, if you are looking for a professional, helpful and friendly service coupled with that other elusive added ingredient of the 'Personal Touch' something which is so often lacking these days, we would both highly recommend Large and Large opticians of Waterlooville. read more
