But I had a couple great meals here, with quality ingredients skillfully prepared. I love the atmosphere, which reminds me of places my Dad took us ages ago when we were kids on special occasions. Now, I think the service was fine, since I got what I wanted and wasn't in any hurry. But I understand how some folks might think some of the staff has their own somewhat inefficient system and might be miffed. It's not New York, so slow down and enjoy your time here.

My favorite appetizer were the Gulf Coast Crab Cakes. From the main dishes I highly recommend the Low & Slow Short Rib, it is delicious! The Iron Chop was also really good. And the Dulce de Leche dessert was really good too, not too sweet or overpowering. For cocktails the Triple Crown and Run for the Roses were very refreshing. The staff were very friendly and attentive and though the restaurant was renovated they kept the classic look that makes the Tack Room. Reopening is tentatively for November 14th 2025. It's been years since I've gone to the Tack Room but the new menu and changes they've made are really worth the trip downtown.

Even after mentioning it to the waitress nothing was done. The quesadilla was pretty fair, nothing special just chicken and cheese, no spices. The restaurant wasn't busy, we were the only patrons. $50 for a very disappointing meal. Since we were staying at the hotel, we went down for breakfast. Greasy food and the refried beans in my taco were dry and crunchy. The waitress didn't pay attention, I had to ask twice for a coffee refill. We won't be back, I can see why there were no other customers.

Well the truth was we had not left any room number because WE HAD PAID AT THE BAR INCLUDING A GENEROUS TIP! We had to go to the front desk to fix THEIR ERROR (aka the bartender's error) and it was like pulling teeth to get them to admit that it was a whoops on their part. That incident made me knock off one star. It could have been handled better had the bartender admitted we handed him a credit card and he neglected to charge the card. Sad, because the bartender was actually very attentive... oh well.

This place is very typical Mexican restaurant in Mexico very nice and you go there just to have drinks or with the family or just to go enjoy a good meal. Place looks small, but it has a good amount of room in there. And let me tell you everything is amazingly priced and for the amount of food you get is amazing. We did the bone marrow with Chicharron and avocado and it was so freaking good and it comes with tortillas as well. I got two type of tacos as well. One of them was a ribeye with sausage is just phenomenal. The other one was fajita with mushrooms and no balls and it was delicious. I also added cheese onto that one. I also really wanted to try the soup so I got the Chicharron one and it tasted like a mix of Chicharron with tomato basil, which is interesting and delicious. They also have a full bar so you can ask for any kind of mixed cocktail as well.

The ambience was great and suitable for business meetings, informal or formal gatherings, or outings with friends and family. The bathroom was clean. The dining room elegant, the parking lot secure. But the food was great and I had a good time with my friends.

BUT there are so many other things to try, I have been in Laredo for 4.5 years, and it's been hard to find a Mexican restaurant that reminds me of home (Arizona, California), this might just be the place!! There are bars on every window and a bit rundown down but the parking lot had a ton of cars. That speaks volumes! We were greeted and told we could sit anywhere, other than reserved spots since there was a band starting at 8pm. The band was a huge plus. They brought chips and salsa and we ordered some margaritas. Just a note, they don't do Cadillac. The were good, not great. Same with the Pina Colada. My husband ordered the crispy tacos and I the tres enchiladas with a salad. The salad was all iceberg lettuce with an interesting dressing with a tangy flair. The enchiladas were good but the beans dried out. My husband wasn't crazy about the tacos. We stayed for the band which consisted of one guy. Regardless, he was fun and did all genres of music. Overall, it was a great first night experience. Thanks Charlie! We enjoyed metting you too!

The menu online looks spectacular and had a lot of interesting dishes. I was super excited. I saw that they were open late and I was also very happy about this because my meal was after work. I arrived at 9:30 walked in the side entrance and saw a post hunched over and squatted down, looking at her iPhone. I also saw another employee leaning on the host stand talking to her. He didn't greet me neither did she until I walked to the front of the house stand. She got up from her crouch position and said can I help you? I was surprised to see what she was wearing, an oversized hoodie with some type of logo on it, which was not an appropriate thing to wear, and it did not match the other employee that were more crisp. I said dining for one and grabbed a menu and slid it across the host stand out of pure laziness. She slumped her way over with the menu hanging on her left side and sat me at a table. Wow what a lousy first impression for a restaurant that I was so excited to visit. A server came over gave me a menu and brought me water. Disappointed to see that the menu was completely different from the menu that I saw online. No unique dishes and the variety was not great. However, I was there and felt I'd give it a chance. A server that was at the bar entering tickets or something, kept looking over at my table, but no one ever acknowledged me after I was seated. I waited for about 10 minutes until someone realized I need assistance. The server finally came over. He was polite to check my order served my meal left me to be on my own to check on me one time, but it certainly wasn't a two minute check when he should to see if my meal was to my satisfaction. My plates were not cleared and I had to ask for the check.. the food was OK. I had the salmon. Nothing spectacular. risotto was uneventful. Got my check and left. No goodbye, no thank you for coming in no stand out service. Servers are friendly and well dressed, this is a high end spot. Table bread was good, came with chimmichurri and butter, it was good. So good in fact that they asked me if I wanted another bread, and I said of course. What they failed to mention is that they charged $5 for the bread, wasn't expecting that at all. No one advised me of that but alright. We ordered a shrimp with oil dish, cooked in a cast iron, this was outstanding! Great flavor, came with 6 pieces of shrimp and came out on a hot cast iron pan. Highly recommend. I ordered a 15 oz picahna and my wife ordered 12 oz American ribeye. The ribeye was thin, but cooked well. However they failed to season the steak. The picahna was cooked okay, also poorly seasoned. When you think of picahna , you think of the fat cap, tell me why my picahna did not have any fat cap on it? They carved out the fat! I mean cmon man, you're an Argentinian steakhouse and you do that, that is blasphemy. Then they cut my steak, let it bleed out on the plate. Is this their first time or what? Leave the steak whole, like my wife's ribeye. The second saddest steak I've eaten. The worst one was a ribeye I had at Otillias. Steak came with steak fries and they were okay. My wife's baked potato wasn't fully cooked either Overall this place missed the mark and for paying $115 for two people before tip, you're better off grilling your own steaks for a lot less. I paid $40 for the picahna and $39 for my wife's steak. I wanted to give this place 3 stars but that bs bread move left me upset. I honestly think if you're looking for a decent steak, save yourself some money and go to Texas or Longhorns steakhouse.
