Bread is good. 1st time there passing through town and heard about it. But I will never go back. Big girl in the front is extremely RUDE. Older man in front of me wanted bread in separate bags. She became extremely upset and spoke to him angrily, in front of everyone. I wanted particular breads and pointed out to her and she just crabbed whatever she wanted and that was that. This is by far the best panaderia in the entire Valley and yes, I've tried several bakeries and my opinion stays unchanged. I have the fondest memories of my mom parking right in front of the bakery and telling me "go in and get empanadas, molletes, and some galletas" and handing me a couple bucks. Oh the good old days... The church I went to, with the light-up blue cross at night, where I went to first communion classes (what happened!? lol) is so iconic and right across the street. If you're even within a 100 mile radius of Harlingen, you need to come to Laura's for some Mexican sweet bread. It's absolutely worth the drive. Here's why... First off, everything is amazing. They have a variety of wonderful cookies, pastries and empanadas to choose from (my personal favorite was the apple). Everything is made very fresh, so you can tell when you take a bite that what your eating was literally made that day. The cookies are a perfect treat to bring to a gathering. If you have a larger group, I highly recommend getting a medium or large size box. If you put in a mix of items in a large box, it will run you about $30ish...it's enough dessert to feed a small army. I was only going to go here once, but ended up here three times on a weekend trip to Harlingen. Here are a few pro tips: 1. They close mid-day on Sunday. Get there early to miss the church crowd. 2. If you go on a Saturday, they are out of a lot of the good stuff by 1pm. 3. Their donuts are awesome and they crank them out. Go in the morning and you'll always have a fresh one! 4. This place is crazy cheap. $2 will have you walking out with a bag full of goodies. read more

Ok I have to update my review and give credit to Lara's. After coming a few times the sweet bread is amazing! I haven't gone to any other bakery since my last review. On my recent visit, I picked up a few new things such as the lady fingers, pink flower cookies, and a brownie. My favorites have to be the flower cookies with pink icing. Their brownies are very rich and moist. Their donuts are very good too, even the next day after you buy them they're still good. What I didn't care for were the lady fingers. They had no taste whatsoever. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Expect a crowd on Sunday morning! I guess I needed more time to try everything Lara's has to offer and believe me they have a lot to offer! read more
