Over the years (decades) our electric dryers have never been very efficient at drying. I recently discovered that the original (mid-1970's) venting design was dangerous - 3" spiral flexible plastic running inside an interior wall, through the attic and hanging under a roof vent by a piece of wire. Recently, after noticing that the dangling hose had dropped down from the attic ceiling, I discovered it was mostly brittle and falling apart, even inside the wall space.
