The Waddell is conveniently located a couple of minutes walk away from the Capitol Theatre, and overlook the Ganaraska River. The bedroom features a Queen sized bed, air conditioning, private bathrooms, complimentary high-speed internet, and in-room Keurig coffee. We checked into the hotel around 8:30 pm, and luckily we did it in the nick of time. Since it's a smaller hotel with no 24 hours reception desk, they do lock the doors at 9:45 pm. We took the elevator to the second floor, and was greeted with a cozy hotel room. The hotel was beautifully restored and each room features custom-built cherry or mahogany furnishings, and period features such as high ceilings and large windows. It's a boutique hotel, so the design has a very small-town charm to it. On the main floor is Trattoria Gusto, where they offer Italian cuisine in a beautiful historic setting. In the morning, they do offer breakfast for hotel guests (complimentary with some rooms). We actually dined at Trattoria Gusto back in 2012, but this was the first time we stayed overnight. They don't serve breakfasts to the public, but it's open for brunch, lunch and dinner. We both opted for the Gusto Breakfast ($11.50), which came with 2 eggs (any style), breakfast potatoes with roasted caponata, sausage or bacon, and toast. Overall, the breakfast was good except the bacon. It was incredibly hard and tastes crisper than chips. I loved how central The Waddell Hotel is to downtown Port Hope. We were able to walk to many of our destinations from the hotel, and got a great view of The Salmon Migration flowing in the Ganaraska River.

Ste Anne's Spa is great for all types of people whether you're looking for a day visit, cottage home retreat or just an all inclusive overnight type of stay. Every visit I seem to fall more in love with this place. Opted for the I love spa package and do I ever feel pampered. Took the via rail to Cobourg and had a shuttle pick up. From there checking in was seamless. Room was spacious and clean. The curated food menus for breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinners are all great with many options to choose from. Enjoyed the steam room, cold plunge and thermal pools. Therapists were all top notch. What a difference when you stay at the main inn! Definitely looking forward to more visits in the future.

Extensive grounds with tranquility gardens and lots of walking paths. Day spa includes lunch and afternoon tea. Lovely big pool, plus a variety of hot and cold jacuzzis. Sauna in the locker room too. They have other yoga, meditation and other classes available for a fee. Lots of body treatments including massages and body scrubs. Meals were wonderful. Great place to decompress. Two minor annoyances - 1. Please do as they ask and put away the phones. It is distracting for other guests 2. Don't reserve chairs by the pool for a long time by leaving your belongings there. Some folks did it for over 3 hours while we were there. So not fair to other guests. Otherwise, a wonderful spot and great staff. Note - Do take your epi pen if you are allergic to bees/wasps. There are quite a few buzzing around the pool and gardens.

I'm assuming it's a pull-out couch? I love love love baths so read and relaxed for a while in it last night The room was big and I had lots of space. Parking was free as was WIFI (it was quick). I had a mini fridge, coffee machine and microwave oven in the room. There is a pub in the lobby and that's where I had supper last evening. It was nice not having to go far for a bite to eat. I'd stay here again.

The hotel wifi is blazing fast. As in, really fast. And it's because of this that I don't see myself picking another hotel in the area. I need to constantly work and the internet speed is important to me. The rooms that I stayed in were kept clean and scent-free as this is a non-smoking hotel. It's a few minutes drive to downtown, a cab ride away from the train station and a few minutes to waterfront. But not really far away from these places.

The Boat House Cabin that we stayed in was right on the water, complete with its own dock and the views were gorgeous any time of the day, especially at sunset. The cabin itself was spacious, spotlessly cleaned, and beautifully designed with modern amenities such as a fully equipped kitchen and stunning washroom features. So many thoughtful details went into the design of the cabin from the pretty tiling, artwork in the bedrooms, types of plates, etc. The basket of goodies (Away Cabins water bottle and various snacks) was also a nice touch. We also enjoyed the many shared amenities on site such as the hot tub with stunning views of the lake, the communal fire pit, a variety of fun games in the shed, and water equipment like kayaks and pedal boats. The kind and welcoming hosts Debbie and Jason check in on guests during their stay and they honestly thought of everything for such a relaxing getaway! Pictures don't do this place justice - all of my photos from here are unfiltered by the way for those wondering. We had such a magical stay with Away Cabins and absolutely recommend this place to everyone!

The Summerhill tea room is beautifully decorated with many quaint UK items to check out…read more Unfortunately that is greatly over shadowed by horribly over priced cafeteria-tasting food, and the worst service we have ever experienced. My mother, grandmother and myself went to Summerhill tea room for their high tea and were very disappointed. We stole menus,cutlery and napkins from the canisters on neighboring tables as there were non on our table. The menu selection was very small. We decided to order the high tea. High tea for three ~39.00 + tax. In addition we decided to also order each a side of soup and Irish bread for $3.95 + tax The menu said "a selection of sandwiches, crumpets and desserts." We received less than a half sandwich each, 1 tart and 1 crumpet. Our hot water for our tea had not yet reached a boil. We waited 80 minutes for our food. The waitress forgot our tea that was included. I had to go into the back and ask her for our tea. There was no one in the tea room but us during our entire time there (2+hours). When we first arrive an elderly couple and their grandchild were preparing to leave the cafe. Their table went uncleaned until our food was brought out to our table (80 minutes). At the time to pay we tracked down our waitress again in the back room and asked for the bill. She then stood at our table, waiting for us to split our bill. The food was terrible, especially for the price we paid. Our total came to $63.00 + change. I ordered the cauliflower and nutmeg soup. It was very bland, and chunky. I have never seen or tasted cauliflower soup such as this. It was less than 1 cup on soup in a small tea cup. The soup itself tasted like a stewed sock. The Irish bread was moist but was baked with way too much salt and all three of us opted to leave it on our plates. The high tea "sandwich" consisted of one triangle piece of stale bread with 3 thin slices of cucumber atop it. No seasoning, no cream cheese. Nothing. One oddly cut circle of stale bread smaller than my palm with a spoonful of egg salad atop it. No seasoning, very bland again. And one 1" by 1" square stale bread with salmon and a top on it. The 1 crumpet we got each was the only part I enjoyed. Although I suspect it was purchased, not fresh baked. The small 1.5" custard tart on top was also tasty and I suspect store bought. After our "high tea" we headed downtown to another restaurant where we had a lovely lunch as we were very hungry upon leaving Summerhill. A huge disappointment all around. As someone with experience with high tea in Glasgow Scotland I was highly disappointed and very embarrassed to have suggested this location to my guests. This has, at least, created an experience that I think we will laugh about for a long time. The giggling kept us fairly entertained for the 2+ hours in the tea room.

I will do just about anything to get in front of adorably stacked snacks, heart-warming liquids and good company. Summerhill B&B is the most casual, kitschy tea time I've ever experienced, but it's still special enough to merit five stars. The scones, tarts and cucumber sandwiches were aces. They overdo the fish sandwiches a little bit (tuna sandwiches are just kind of blah), but the overall atmosphere (ran by an actual English woman) is so cute I'll let it slide.

Our lodgings opened out onto a balcony which overlooked an extensive garden, a historic pub, a golf course and a lake. It was a beautiful view and our living quarters were luxurious. The four-poster bed was stunningly comfortable and about four of them could have fit into the giant-sized bedroom! There was a sofa beside the bed opposite the gorgeous French windows. There was an infinite amount of storage space for all our items. The bathroom had all necessary provisions and there was something about the water pressure in the shower that made it it the best shower ever! (I can't quite describe it!) The living room had a sofa, an armchair, coffee tables, a giant-widescreen-plasma TV, plenty of reading materials and lots of much appreciated kitchen items such as a toaster and a Keurig machine. And the heated swimming pool! This was included in the price and reserved for our use only! Absolutely amazing. It was a lovely feeling heading out into the bitter cold for dinner, knowing that we would return to such a luxury! The combination of all the above ensured that paying $125 a night was truly superb value. That being said, there were a few things that made our stay less than perfect: Making a reservation was difficult. Numerous phone calls and emails went unanswered. I was then told to call at a specific time, at the owner's convenience. The B&B kindly offers two rates. One ($125) for no breakfast, one ($140) with breakfast included. As I booked in advance of a surprise trip for my bf, I wasn't sure - when booking - which option he would prefer. When I spoke with the owner to make my reservation, I asked if we could let her know upon arrival which option we would prefer. I was told this would not be a problem and they would accommodate our request either way. When we arrived, we were told that it was too late to request a breakfast, as the owners had made personal plans for the weekend. That's fair enough, but it would be nice to have been told in advance. We didn't have a car and there were no breakfast places or convenience stores close by. I'd be lying if I said this didn't put a dampener on the weekend. After our initial welcome and tour of our section of the house, we didn't see the owners again. This wasn't a problem in itself (although I'm sure some would have a security issue with it), but it meant that when we had some small inevitable questions (''What's the wifi password?'' ''Other guests complimented your wide selection of DVDs but we can't find any DVDs, can you let us know where they are?''), we had no way of getting answers. We knocked on the door leading into the owner's section of the house, and called the number provided, but no answer - all weekend. I would still happily return to The Inn By The Mill - it is a beautiful, romantic and luxurious B&B and I feel anyone would feel privileged to stay there. But much as I hate hate hate to criticise family-run businesses, I felt that customer service was lacking slightly. Solidly four-stars.

Pinecrest cottages was originally a summer retreat and has been around for about 150 years ! at some point about 20 cottages were built. Currant owners Diego & Lynn have owned the property for about 6 years and have done extensive renovations to the buildings and water front area.We brought along our own boat and there was ample space at the dock, pinecrest also has plenty of rental boats of all sizes and free canoes and kayaks .The cottages were clean and comfortable with great vistas and sun sets. The fishing is great either by boat or just off the dock.The cost turned out to be less than we thought ! We enjoyed the night time fires and found the other guests to be friendly, some traveled quite a distance from areas in the U.S and one we spoke to have been visiting for over 25 years ! we had a great week and have pre booked for next year. They were offering a wellness retreat that included two night's stay for two people, breakfast and yoga. With the pandemic and no ability to travel outside of the country, this was a welcome getaway. I was really looking forward to going. Unfortunately, my travel companion's health took a turn for the worst and wasn't able to go anymore, so we cancelled. Let me just say how accommodating the staff at the resort are from beginning to end. First off, they were pretty much booked up during the summer and the only availability for a room was the end of August, which we took. They were so incredibly kind, doing their utmost to ensure our stay would be comfortable. Corresponding with hotel staff was a breeze, whether by phone or email. They were always quick to respond and super polite. I would have loved to visit the grounds itself as it is vast and beautiful. Service from what I observed was excellent and believe had we stayed over our views would be reinforced. Pros: - 90 min from Toronto - Offers a wide variety of services, including a home away from home relaxation retreat - Foods are made from scratch - Cooking classes and spa services offered - Lots of trails to explore - Less than 10km from Cobourg Beach & Lighthouse - Golf on site
