I'm assuming it's a pull-out couch? I love love love baths so read and relaxed for a while in it last night The room was big and I had lots of space. Parking was free as was WIFI (it was quick). I had a mini fridge, coffee machine and microwave oven in the room. There is a pub in the lobby and that's where I had supper last evening. It was nice not having to go far for a bite to eat. I'd stay here again.

The bed is comfortable as well as the pillows; note that they would probably be too high for those who want flat pillows. But I want high pillows so this is perfect for me. The hotel wifi is blazing fast. As in, really fast. And it's because of this that I don't see myself picking another hotel in the area. I need to constantly work and the internet speed is important to me. The rooms that I stayed in were kept clean and scent-free as this is a non-smoking hotel. It's a few minutes drive to downtown, a cab ride away from the train station and a few minutes to waterfront. But not really far away from these places.

The Waddell is conveniently located a couple of minutes walk away from the Capitol Theatre, and overlook the Ganaraska River. The bedroom features a Queen sized bed, air conditioning, private bathrooms, complimentary high-speed internet, and in-room Keurig coffee. We checked into the hotel around 8:30 pm, and luckily we did it in the nick of time. Since it's a smaller hotel with no 24 hours reception desk, they do lock the doors at 9:45 pm. We took the elevator to the second floor, and was greeted with a cozy hotel room. The hotel was beautifully restored and each room features custom-built cherry or mahogany furnishings, and period features such as high ceilings and large windows. It's a boutique hotel, so the design has a very small-town charm to it. On the main floor is Trattoria Gusto, where they offer Italian cuisine in a beautiful historic setting. In the morning, they do offer breakfast for hotel guests (complimentary with some rooms). We actually dined at Trattoria Gusto back in 2012, but this was the first time we stayed overnight. They don't serve breakfasts to the public, but it's open for brunch, lunch and dinner. We both opted for the Gusto Breakfast ($11.50), which came with 2 eggs (any style), breakfast potatoes with roasted caponata, sausage or bacon, and toast. Overall, the breakfast was good except the bacon. It was incredibly hard and tastes crisper than chips. I loved how central The Waddell Hotel is to downtown Port Hope. We were able to walk to many of our destinations from the hotel, and got a great view of The Salmon Migration flowing in the Ganaraska River.

Best part is that they serve good coffee! They have an indoor pool, hot tub and exercise room. And the hotel is right on the main strip, close to everything. The staff are incredibly personable and make sure your stay is pleasant. The rooms are dated, but clean for the most part. Not many tv options, but the wifi is great. They could upgrade the beds too. But all in all, a great budget friendly hotel.

My wife used the small exercise room on the first floor. I found the wi-fi to be slow, but at least I had an Internet connection. I saw the indoor pool and coin operated laundry but we didn't use either. The free breakfast was on the upper end of what I expected from a chain like this. Our room ended up in the annex section. Behind the hotel is open green space that I'm pretty sure belongs to the hotel, and backs onto the Otonabee River. It's very pretty and picturesque and I think a nice place for like an outdoor wedding. Our room itself was pretty standard. We had a queen bed, couch, coffee table, flat screen TV, microwave and small fridge. The bathroom is small and is just the toilet and bath tub. The sink is outside of the bathroom. There's a gym and a pool, neither of which were used by us. Lots of free parking. The breakfast area is nice. Since our stay was during the Covid-19 Pandemic (not our preferred time to travel, but our journey was ultimately for an interment), the hot food was served in "to-go" pre-packaged servings by an attendant (it was a breakfast sandwich with bacon, egg and cheese on an English muffin when we were there). The attendant also serves you coffee and tea. Everything else is single serving individually wrapped and you can serve yourself with those (e.g bottled juice, yogurt, packaged pastries, granola bars, etc.). The dining room was open, with tables spaced out, but we opted to eat in our own room. I was satisfied with the Covid precautions. We paid around $120 a night. I would stay here again. Hopefully next time under happier circumstances, both personally and from a global health perspective.
