Lovely friendly bar and waiting staff. Sadly we arrived too…read moreearly for the carvery so had to order off main menu. We were told due to recent fire chips not available however wedges as alternative were offered. The pizza was burnt, hunters chicken reheated with greasy wedges and fish pie watery served with mash on top and wedges. We had read all the excellent reviews and disappointed our experience didn't match up. Perhaps we should have returned during our stay in Dawlish to try the carvery .....

We visit this pub quite often simply because it offers good food (Carvery) and the owners and…read morepeople who work there are friendly and nice to talk to. It gets very busy during the weekends and evenings so its worth making a booking. Although its possible to walk to it from Dawlish or Teignmouth its easier to drive if the weather is looking a bit doubtful. There is a large car park, although it does seem to get pretty full! Its easy to park though normally so its not an issue. Food is simply excellant. As someone else stated about sauces - the sauces are on the end of the carvery area. The Carvery enables you to choose one,two or three meats and obviously as many vegetables as you want or can fit on your plate in my case. Puddings are equally good, although we are normally so full up from the carvery we dont often have pudding! Overall, I would recommend this pub to anyone that was passing by. In the summer you can sit outside, which offers good views out over the hills and sea.

Utterly torn between three and four stars with this pub. It should have been a four-five without…read morequestion. But they really know how to let themselves down. The first night we tried to come here (there's only two pubs in the village, see) they were fully booked for dinner. We got kinda excited at that point (places are rarely quiet because they're bad, after all) so we booked in for Saturday instead and toddled off to the other pub for the evening. When we arrived the next day, they didn't seat us for a while, then didn't take our order for a good half an hour (we didn't have drinks either). There were only two duck dishes left so the waitress had to check I could have that like I'd asked. I didn't want to point out that there'd been more choice if anyone had served us. She didn't ask how I wanted my duck until she came back, and she didn't seem to know what sides came with each dish. As it was, the sides of dauphinoise potato and green beans were very tasty. Starters sounded great. As we were by the sea, we had to have scallops, right? But mine were a little sandy, and the waitress looked shocked when I told her. Not wonderfully thrilled. But here's the thing: The main courses were excellent. Really really excellent. And the pub is lovely. Cosy, noisy, happy. Everything you want from a country pub. It occurs to me that they're so busy because they have massively useless serving staff. And too many of them as well so no one really knows what's going on. I don't think my experience was a four star one. My meal (and wine) was. But I like the pub too much to rate them three stars. Still, they need some better serving staff here, because that's really letting down the excellent food.
