The food menu is large and all dishes are beautifully presented on large square plates with carved carrot and salad garnish. Plates don't seemed be warmed first though... All food is tasty and full of flavour, but not too spicy. Extra chilli usually lurks somewhere on the dish, so beware if you don't want it. Coffee is good, there's an extensive wine list, Asian beers and fruit juices. Very nice.

Good, clean, well-lighted, and some seriously good, authentic Thai food done with twist. I know…read moremany people use the tom yum soup as a "taste test". I did the same. When the soup came out, it was paler than most that I've tried, which made me skeptical at first. But it turned out to be very good, very spicey and had a taste that was very "clean." I have also tried Pla Manow which is a steamed fish in lemon sauce topped with fresh garlic, chili, lime and coriander -- what can I say? it was heavenly. The wish did not taste "overly fishy" (the lemon and spices helped I am sure) and the fish belly was fatty and delicious, as good fish bellies are supposed to go. :) On another day, I tried the Poeh Tak Talay (which is a seafood soup in lemongrass -- basically the tom yum but with an assortment of seafood like mussels, shrimp, squid). Verdict: to-die-for. The seafood are "just right" (not rubbery for the squid for instance). Good point also: The refills of hot tea, as Asian restaurants must do. One frustration I have, having come from America, is how in the UK restaurants would charge "per pot" of tea. But in Asia, tea is drunk as water. It should be complimentary in fact, and it should be refillable. I hope some day the business models of restaurants in the UK change particularly in the way they charge drinks. All, In all, highly recommended. Not overly expensive. But it IS very good food. Shouldn't be this quiet or underrated. p.s., I know my Asian food.

Thankfully, in this case, the genuine Thai feel was more than environmental. The food was so subtle of flavour yet unpretentiously presented while the choice of menu was very capacious. The set menus were both economical, contrasting and filling. The service was professional and prompt, and judging by the general busyness, it seems this is a popular place - well, I guess it is extremely central. On arrival it was manic but agreed to wait for 15 min on the side for a table. Overseeing the bar I caught glimpses of waterdowned cocktails being prepped and sent out cementing my decision not to try one. After 15min we were led down a busy stretch of faux tucs tucs and a seated against a a wall crowded with loot stuck to the wall. The menu had plenty to offer from dim sum, Thai fishcakes lots of variants of sea bass and all Thai dishes you could think of catering from meat eaters to vegans. I adore bubble tea so was madly curious to try a alcohol variant which was a boozy salted caramel. My other half ordered a havana rum. My partner received whisky rather than rum and mine was full of so much tapioca it spoiled it. For food my partner had the har kau prawn dumplings and pineapple rice with prawns. Myself pork sesame skewers along with prawn red curry. We both enjoyed the starters lovely texture and flavours besides the unhappy lettuce. Unfortunately the mains were weak. We had eaten pineapple rice in our weeks and Thailand and wanted to experience that same tastiness. It was just plain rice , under cooked veg and big prawns on the side.. not rice laced with pineapple etc.. my red Thai curry was more of a soup with basic flavour with also undercooked veg. I like to have some bite but not like this. The prawns were cooked nicely . Not once did anyone ask about our wellfare or food quality. Drone like they cleaned tables with lighting speed and took food orders churning the fast tables over. Overall very disappointed with despite the service charge they whacked on not very attentive and poor food quality.

This falls a little flat coming from a local girl with a Nottingham accent though. The seating was rustic, but not very comfortable, and the decor is a little odd. It seems to be trying to replicate some of the other street-food venues in the area, but not quite hitting the mark. The beer selection is poor. Small bottles of Singha, Heineken or Brewdog IPA. A draft beer or wider bottle selection would be quite welcome. Kid's meals are a little limited, and children, it would seem, normally only get the activity book with those meals, though they were happily provided when we asked, as the kids wanted food from the full price menu. Beef and noodles was the first thing I tried, it was very bland, with the beef being a little tough and the greens under seasoned. Edible and not unpleasant, but not great. Then the pork belly, which was reasonably flavourful and was easily the best thing that I tried today at Thaikun. It wasn't something I'd rave about, but it was satisfactory. The green curry, however, had the consistency of water, though, and had very little flavour at all. No heat, either. We complained to our server, and asked her to taste the curry. She told us that it wasn't supposed to be like this, grimaced upon tasting it and said that "I'm going to have to wash my mouth out now." We were still charged full price, though. We found Thaikun to be way inferior to other, cheaper, local Thai offerings.

I ordered the chicken satay for starters while my friends ordered the stewed spare ribs in barbecue sauce, the tempura prawns with sweet chili dip, and the chicken chicken wings with sweet chili sauce, all nicely displayed on the plate and all did taste very delicious, the meat succulent and tender. For mains, I ordered my favourite Thai dish, Pad Thai with giant freshwater prawns. It was extremely tasty, the Thai noodle recipe was apparently passed down by the chef's grandmother. It was served with two giant, whole prawns with shells on, cut in half but held together at the tails. Very meaty. The noodles were the right texture, moist, good flavours, not hard or al dente. My partner's dish of Thai and Hainanese style chicken, with rice and broth was also a tasty dish. Lovely presentation of my friend's mains of spaghetti with king prawns, mixed with fresh Tom Yum sauce. My other friend enjoyed her Thai green curry with rice and chicken which she said had a kick in it that went on for quite a few kicks! A very filling meal which we thoroughly enjoyed. We washed it down with a bottle of Thai Premium Rose, which was an excellent accompaniment, fresh and not too sweet. The service was friendly and swift. Would definitely return if in the area.
