'singling out another veggie for special mention'…read more It is 'Baby Gai Choy' ('Chinese Mustard Green'), and was observed on a shelf at LFM druing a recent shopping stop. I had not recalled seeing this particular veggie before. Short-stemmed, with long and broad leaves, bagged (like the other 'choys' sold there), the individual bags standing tall, and the product sure looking fresh. And though I had never tried, or even heard of this veggie before, I decided a good-sized bag was comng hme with me. Wow!! there has been no looking back on this purchase with any regret, we have totally enjoyed it. It has an amazing, distinctive "peppery-mustard" flavour, especially noticeable when used uncooked, or only lightly cooked. For us, making it great to use in sandwiches, or salads. But it retains its flavour when cooked. So can, and has added its wonderful green colour and flavour to dishes I have prepared in the microwave oven, and on the stovetop and indoor griddle. I have really enjoyed how the flavour lingers in the mouth after eating -- a mild, and spicy-warmth. I believe it is the 'baby branded' product that particularly meets my descriptions. Unsure if it is sold, at least to the general public, once it grows and ages much further. Glad I saw, and chose to purchase and try it. But will sure miss it when we have finished what I bought, and may be unable to catch a replacement!

Over the years since it opened, Kin's Market has had several ownership changes. The quality of the produce has fallen with each new owner. Now tired, bruised fruit and over-ripe vegetables seem to have become the norm. It's truly unfortunate as I've visited the Kin's Market in Ladner when visiting friends. Their produce is amazingly fresh, no "seconds" or stale dated produce, just truly fresh, crisp and fairly priced. It reminds me how great our Kin's market used to be ... I keep going back hoping that the owners will realize that poor quality at regular prices is a poor business model but such is not the case. Today, I've decided shopping here is not worth my time or money. HSS

Since it's fall season, you'll find plenty of fresh assorted local BC grown apples such as ambrosia, Fuji, etc (many that major stores don't carry). I was happy to find local potatoes here which is a treat! They're conveniently located in the Lynn Valley mall near the liquor store. You can't go wrong when it comes to supporting local small businesses!

You can also bring your own anything - bowls, boxes, whatever. We had to cross the street and walk about 100m to get to the picking area. Blueberries and currants were in season as well. Raspberries grow at eye level so I find them much more comfortable to pick. We were able to get just under 15 pounds in 20-30 minutes, and paid ~$45. The berries themselves were delicious. They also have a store with pre-picked fruit, and a variety of drinks, produce, and other items for sale. The parking lot is mostly shaded by trees, which is great for hot summer days.

They had raspberries, blackberries, strawberries, blueberries and red currants for u-pick. They also has a market with these berries that were pre-picked if you prefer not to pick yourself. The price of u-pick is $3.50/lb. My mum and I ended up with 10.5 pounds of strawberries and blueberries (combined). This place is so gorgeous because they also had a shady area set up with some tables to hang out. There's also a mini kid friendly playground. Plus a food truck on site? Hell yeah!
