With that said, I am a happy patron of this particular store and always go there first if I need something. When you get there it doesn't seem like they are definitely going to have what you specifically need because it's in such a small space (compared to say Home Depot is Lowe's) but they do such an excellent job of curating their stock that I have never not found what I was looking for. I don't even know how they do it but it's really impressive. When I'm shopping for something I am really adverse to employees approaching me (I fall for an up sell really easily so it just makes me anxious). The staff here though are always friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. It has the feel of a neighborhood mom and pop type of store and I attribute most of that to the staff. It's clear that everyone there actually wants to be there and it makes for a great experience. The only negative is that the Ace Rewards is one of the most useless rewards program I have ever encountered but that's not up for to the store so I'm not holding it against them. Getting a five dollar coupon for a specific item I'm never going to need if I spend a hundred bucks is kind of silly though. The worst customer service I have ever received has consistently been at Home Depot and Lowe's. Between waiting for a couple employees to finish their conversations when I need help to asking where something is and getting an "I dunno" it makes me really happy to have an option where I am positive that will never happen. If you need something for home improvement go there first. Even if it's not the closest, it's worth it for the great shopping experience.

However I have found myself here twice in the past week. The first time was to try to find pruners that can be used standing. While we were not able to find those, sadly, the owner (I think) and his employee went out of their way to see how they could help me. Then, a few days later, I find myself on a mission to find a certain kind of plant food. I had already checked at Home Depot while buying bird seed, but they had not had it come in for over a year and were not sure when it was coming in. I called Walmart, Loews, and two garden stores in the area too. They did not have any in stock either. On a whim I stopped in here again, asked the employee if they had it, he took me to the aisle and there it was!! I scooped up the two boxes they had. This store looks small from the outside, but it is quite large once inside. It is next to and connected to the Schuele Paint Store, more or else on the corner of Summer and Main. Rather than travel to the suburbs, I will go here first now, they are helpful, pleasant, local and easy to get to.

There is basically no signage and it can be hard to figure out where things are, but just ask and the guy at the counter knows where everything is. The staff has been super helpful every time I go in. Maybe a bit over-watchful but honestly I can't blame them for that. There are no lines in the small parking lot and it is not super clear where to park. Maybe anywhere is fine? The aisles are very tight and a bit claustrophobic. This isn't a place where you go and wander around to look at everything and find inspiration... it is a place where you need a thing, then you go and buy that thing and go back home to finish the repairs or project. Gardening stuff, plumbing repairs, painting supplies, butane for lighters, autumn mums, if you need it for your home they probably have it tucked away someplace. Prices are reasonable. Plus it's great to have a local place to buy stuff instead of giving money to the big box stores.

But it's not as smooth as other websites, they want you to call the store with the part number to confirm availability. However this wasn't too bad, the associate Tom pulled the items for me and kept behind the counter. The items were ready for pickup immediately, so it was great to be able to pay in store then be in and out quickly. I also appreciate that I don't feel like they're trying to oversell or upsell on things I could do less expensively. For example, we are redoing our kitchen ourselves (it's an ongoing process if you know what I mean) and we reused the old cabinets because they were in good shape. The old cabinets had doors that were not compatible with hidden hinges unless you wanted to spend an *obscene* amount of money on hinges. The guys at Rockler's walked me through the options and I realized that we just needed new doors. Initially I thought we would make the doors but then that felt a bit overwhelming with all we needed to do. So I decided that we were going to buy doors. Rockler's sells doors. I figured that was perfect. When I went back in to tell the guy helping me that we were going to buy new doors, he told me that the style door we were interested in was actually a very simple one to make. He outlined the process right then and made us feel much more confident about the process. Making doors is really a better option for us because we will save a lot of money that way and we've done some woodworking before - just not cabinet doirs. We stopped in today to get our materials and when I saw that they didn't have any reviews I wanted to add one right away. Such work is jobbed out and HD doesn't back up the quality of the work. Having said that, we went yesterday for a replacement flourescent tube and a fuse for it. Like many HD shoppers, I've often found it difficult to find an employee to help find something. Yesterday, a super HD worker named Colin was on the spot even as we stood in front of the light bulbs looking for a 3-way bulb. Not only did he offer help without being asked, but instructed me on how to adjust the brightness tone on the bulb I was going to buy. Yes, there were some words to that effect on the package, but I'm sure I wouldn't have bothered to read closely. It's a light bulb. Colin next kept us from buying the wrong flourescent tube. What we'd picked up was a 12w and we needed a 15w. (Always helpful when shopping for a replacement anything to bring the old one with you.) Turned out HD did not have an 18-inch 15w, but at least we didn't have to come back to return the wrong one. And then Colin found the correct fuse we needed, Done. (We did get to Ace on Summer St in time to grab the last 18" 15w tube they had in stock.) Helpful and knowledgable employees can certainly make all the difference in any shopping experience.

The service from the sales person could of been better. From getting someone in for measurements to the items coming in were not communicated well at all. Measurements were suppose to be done with 72 hours, this did not happen so I had to call the store twice only to find out the order was placed incorrectly. Had I not called I'd probably still be waiting. When it came time for installation the wrong back storm door was ordered! What is saving this review is the installation crew, Conlee and Dylan. They went over and beyond. They were able to correct the wrong door and get a new one here within minutes. They were professional. Did a great job with the installation. Totally respected the property. They cleaned up during and after the installation Explained everything as they were doing it. Just great service there. The actual store service people were disappointing. The actual doors themself were priced reasonable, and they provided nice discounts.
