This particular store is in South Hills Village mall. J.Jill is not one of my favorite stores, because I think that the prices are higher than what I want to pay and that the clothing makes my body look boxy and old, but I have shopped here a couple of times. Sometimes the clearance section has clothing that has a nice style and an acceptable price. During my most recent visit, the store had a sale of 30% off for certain full-priced styles, so an expensive sweater became moderately priced.

An employee greeted me and told me about their sale. I decided to buy a shirt that was half-off for a total of $20. At the checkout counter, I had only a short wait for an employee to serve me. She accurately processed my transaction and thanked me. At home, I tried on the shirt. The fit is slightly boxy and baggy, but I really like the color.

No. Did anyone ask to start a dressing room for me, as they do at Talbots or J. Jill, for example, no. When I made my purchases, Erin, the sales associate, asked if anyone had helped me. When I said, "No," there was no apology. Although she had spent 10 min chatting up the previous customer, I received none of the niceties that customer had received, not that they're really important. No tissue paper wrapped around my clothes, no asking if I wanted the hangers although she had handed a bunch to previous customer, no asking if I wanted the receipt to hold or in the bag. I am clean, neatly dressed, and actually fit the profile of a typical Ann Taylors customer so I can't see why she acted so nonprofessionally. If you want personal treatment, try J. I've also spent the last three years working from home, meaning that I really haven't had a need to buy jeans in quite some time. But finally the day has come: I'm around people more often and leggings just don't always cut it, depending on the activity or setting. Bonus challenge: I've lost weight so I have no idea what size pants to buy without trying them on. That was the scenario I found myself in when I decided to go to Old Navy. Historically I was actually a loyal Kohls shopper, but not only were their sales minimal that day (i.e. this former regular had sticker shock) but only a single pair of pants I tried there looked decent on me. (Real talk, when your shape is too big for one size but too small for the next size up...it's a bad day for your self-esteem.) After that disappointment, shopping at Old Navy was a much better experience all around. The store felt brighter, less cluttered, and better organized. Bonus, Old Navy knows its audience: it has lots of signage around the store explaining exactly how each pant style being sold would fit/sit/flare/etc once on. I saved so much time skipping the styles I just have no interest in/know will look bad on me. I left Old Navy with two jeans and three shorts for a reasonable price (heck yeah, summer sales), and all of them fit better than the majority of items I'd tried on at the previous store. So yay: I once again have jeans for when I need them, and I have shorts for those really hot summer days too. (But I'm still throwing my leggings on when I can - they're the best!)
