The BEST Fish and Chips we had was our first meal after we landed. We had the pleasure of dining at Landy's and it immediately brought us back to the last time we were in Scotland 10 years ago and how food the fish and chips were. We got the full Scottish meal experience and went crazy with food.
Interior is set up like an old seaside British diner and has a nice ambiance, it's also surprisingly large inside though I recommended making a reservation. Even with one we still had to wait about 5 minutes for a table to open.
Fish And Chips: A must order! Proper atlantic Haddock breaded and fried perfectly for a nice crunch. The special, special callout is for the chips. They are twice fried in beef tallow and tasted way better than any other chips. Got the side of mushed peas and I believe these are also cooked in beef tallow.
Haggis: Deep fried and with slightly sweet beetroot ketchup. Haggis is made form sheep heart, liver, and lung but its spiced and mixed with grains so it has a gentle earthy and nutty taste, it was great with the beetroot ketchup.
Scottish Egg: Black pudding wrapped around a soft boiled egg and then deep fried. Black pudding is pork blood and fat mixed with oats. Tasted fine but adding to an already heavy meal was a bit much.
Cocktails: Rob's your Uncle. JD, egg whites, and lemon juice with grenadine. Helped cut some of the oily dishes, tasted fresh and light.
My UK friends said to get fish and chips from a local chipper and not a restaurant but I think Landy's is a rare exception. This is a much visit if you want very good fish and chips. read more
