    Land's end

Though we were there during terrible weather, it was still a positive experience. We didn't run into any tourists, in fact I believe we were the only people there. The fog was very thick. We walked around for a bit before we headed off.

It is what it is - Land's End. We arrive at 5:00 pm and it was miserable and bleak. Someone has capitalised on the fact that this is a tourist "must see" if you are in this part of the world. You have to pay to park. There is a building at the end and some miniature buildings on display. The view is ok. And as most people say you come here to say that you have been, but don't expect a wow factor. On the other hand drive a little further north near Just, visit Cape Cornwall. That's a wow and parking is free!

Hmmtricky one. Looks like I'm the only one here who did enjoy Land's End, perhaps because I didn't spend much time being a tourist in the touristic village that tried to make business with souvenirs, pasties and stuff. Well, I did buy some Cornish ice cream, is that allowed? Land's End actually surprised me with the dramatic scene beyond imagination. I had a picture of just silly rocks and road signs in my head before I went there and of course, it had it all - viewpoint, (great) signs and plain looking rocks, to name a few. But if you step away from the crowd and explore the landmark carefully you will see its hidden beauty at the skyline. The walking path was quite clear and well visible, although it looked like a long way to go it actually took 20-30 mins. Trekking gear is highly recommended i.e. walking boots, waterproof jacket, walking stick as it's quite windy and wet along the way. Good news, there're safety barriers at some part of the path which means you will have to walk along the edge of the cliff with no barriers at some point hence no booze should be allowed during the journey. Not extremely fun for someone who has a mild form of vertigo like me, I felt like I was going to wet my pants when looking down the cliff (but I did not). I eventually made my effort to a wee beach at the end and it was an absolutely amazing experience. Lots of fat seals as a bonus view too. I was glad I made it there. So if you want to give Land's End a visit, I suggest a little bit of exercise on the rocks, it's worth it.

Land's End I'm sure was once a truly beautiful place, but it has since been overshadowed by a cheap tacky theme park to rid hard-working parents of their money to take the kids. If you by-pass the money-hungry area and walk down to the rocks you really can see a remarkable sight. You are standing on the south-western most point of Britain, only topped by the charity trek that many people do from Land's End to St John O'Groats, at the north-eastern tip of Scotland. If you don't mind wasting your money, there are 5 attractions - the latest is Doctor Who Up Close and a shopping village. But my suggestion - take a picnic and sit on the rocks and just enjoy the view.

We were told not to bother going here, but figured we might as well. Obviously it's a massively tourism fulled area but we basically bypassed all the little shops and just went down and stood on the cliffs. The famous sign is gated off so you can only get right up to it if you pay to have a professional photo of you next to it. How cheeky. But if you don't mind the town saying 'your town here' on it, you can still take photos from a bit further away.

I was pretty disappointed by Lands End. I think other than to say that you have visited this famous land mark, there is not much to see or do. There are tacky gift shops and other exhibitions which are not really related to lands end, or the local area - I think there was a doctor who exhibition when I visited. The exhibition that provided you with the history of lands end as an attraction was actually quite informative. It was pretty expensive and you also had to pay to have your 'official' photograph taken standing next to the infamous signpost. Lands End is best for a short visit to take in the views, and perhaps go for a short walk along the cliff tops to take in the sea air.

I'm afraid I tend to agree with the majority of reviews here. I was so looking forward to my Trip to Lands End and I came back feeling a little dissapointed and let down. I loved seeing the Famous mileage sign and the surrounding coastal path was stunning with beautiful views over the rugged cliffs and open seas. A picture postcard setting and a perfect place for photography. The drive down to Lands End and the nearby beach at Sennan made the whole trip worthwhile. The downside to this attraction was the Touristy Shops and inflatable Slides that just didnt seem to fit in with such a beautiful landmark. The Shops and Cafes were over-priced, and over-run with lots of screaming kids who were attracted by the Fairground rides rather than the Landmark itself. The fact that the 'Mileage Sign' has a fence around it so that you cant take pictures for free is quite sad, I dread to think how much they charged for a photo but I didnt stop around to ask! I'm glad i've been to Lands End, its one of those things that can be ticked off my list but I wouldnt be tempted to go back again.

The cliffs, the view, the spray of the Atlantic Ocean - magnificent, breathtaking, stunning... Unfortunately, the atmosphere is spoilt by far too many so-called tourist attractions.

Lighthouse, some seals and a cheeky seagull.

In a tee-pee. This place is fantastic, if you need to get away for a long weekend or even an extended break - because while they have standard accommodation in student, backpacker style dorm rooms with powershowers and fully fitted kitchens, they also provide a camping area for tents, and more importantly they have several authentic tee-pees. These things are not just for show, they are real, and built in almost the same way as native americans build theirs. There were 5 of us staying in one of the tee-pees, and it's fantastic. They are large, with comfortable sleep mats for your sleeping bags, and plenty of room. If you need the loo in the middle of the night, that can be tricky since you have to walk back into the main building, but if you're lucky and it's a clear night with a full moon, you'll have no problems finding your way. It was so much fun - and that was just the tee-pees. On saturday nights the lodge organises a barbeque for all the guests, with a selection of meat and fresh fish, often caught that day from the local town, Sennen. There are loads of things to do - Sennen Beach is a long, beautiful sandy beach with some of the best surfing in the UK. Land's End, the west-most point of England, is only a half hour walk away from the camping ground, and passing back through Sennen on the return leg you can stop for some authentic Cornish Cream Tea. There is a good pub a short distance south from the Lodge, with live music and great company. Everyone is so friendly and everything feels so fresh. Check out the photos for this place, the description that I've given hardly does it justice. I highly recommend that if you're looking for some way of relaxing for a few days, get down to Whitesands Lodge, take your sleeping bag and a few friends, and leave everything else behind.

We arrived by train; you walk about 20-25min to the house and a taxi is recommended if you have a lot of luggage or children because it goes uphill and then downhill when you walk. We were greeted like old friend by Andrew, the owner. Our first time, we had a twin room with ensuite on the top floor not facing the sea which we didn't mind at all as we really wanted a good night's sleep and not the noise from the street. The breakfast is really fantastic. Every day I tried a different one and until today I can't really decide which was the best. They were all delicious. Andrew was very helpful to give tips what to do in the area and how to get to places. The city centre is just 5min away if you short cut up the hill and through the park. We had a wonderful stay at Glencree House and do recommend it! The second time we had a twin room with half-view of the sea and an insight into Andrew's backyard. We heard his kids playing in the garden which wasn't a problem as we weren't in most of the time anyway. Nothing had changed since last time, same hospitality, great breakfast, clean and tidy room. Thanks to Molly and Lisa for being a great help to Andrew and Lynsey. We had a wonderful time in Glencree House - only the poor neigbour's dog that seemed to be shut out of the house very often, barking at the door, was something to get used to - and nothing was too much for Andrew and Lynsey, always helping out with so many things. I very much appreciated the help they gave when I needed a printout for a flight ticket and they offered to print it for me. Thank you again. I have been to so many guesthouses now but Glencree is always my No. 1. Room Tip: Rooms facing the street are quieter as it's a side street but rooms facing the sea have a wonder... Well, he may simply be honoring the Berserker. Southern England is pockmarked with ancient Celt/Viking/Berserker settlements all protected by the English Heritage group (http://www.english-heritage.org.uk) maintained for their educational and historical significance. These ancient warriors fought friend and foe while in a heightened state of uncontrollable fury, a madness known as bärsärkar-gång (going berserk). These were some very bad-ass hombres who'd charge into battle with no armor, no guns and no mercy, just drugged-out ornery bastards with blades. They'd line their settlement walls with the heads of their enemies. Some would ride into battle on small, nimble chariots where they could swing off to stab at a foe and leap back on. As the myth goes, no weapons could harm these "shape-shifters". They were civilization's greatest nightmare and no one wished to be captured alive by any of them. With lemon-bleached hair spiked up with honey, henna tattoos from head to toe, wolf or bear skins their only protection, hopped up on magic mushrooms and alcohol, they were feared by all including their own kind. I don't think I could be their friend. But it's worth a look-see while in this beautifully scenic region of southern England and maybe you could take a second look at your daughter's boyfriend. He just might be showing respect to the ancients. Doubtful, but it's worth a shot. (photos up when I find them)
