Southern England is pockmarked with ancient Celt/Viking/Berserker settlements all protected by the English Heritage group (http://www.english-heritage.org.uk) maintained for their educational and historical significance. These ancient warriors fought friend and foe while in a heightened state of uncontrollable fury, a madness known as bärsärkar-gång (going berserk). These were some very bad-ass hombres who'd charge into battle with no armor, no guns and no mercy, just drugged-out ornery bastards with blades. They'd line their settlement walls with the heads of their enemies. Some would ride into battle on small, nimble chariots where they could swing off to stab at a foe and leap back on. As the myth goes, no weapons could harm these "shape-shifters". They were civilization's greatest nightmare and no one wished to be captured alive by any of them. With lemon-bleached hair spiked up with honey, henna tattoos from head to toe, wolf or bear skins their only protection, hopped up on magic mushrooms and alcohol, they were feared by all including their own kind. The staff are very helpful, polite and friendly. They have the usual post office retail side of stationary, greetings cards etc and also do foreign currency. I like our post office - having visited quite a few around the country as main offices go, this has to be one of the nicest.

The 'pasties from Portreath' have an excellent reputation amongst locals and those in the know. So if you're passing through or nearby, it's worth a detour. One's enough to fill you up for lunch or dinner and a real taste of Cornwall.

I went in on a Saturday morning a few weeks ago, and the queue was longer than I had ever seen them in there. This shop also sells lottery tickets, broadband and you can have a savings account here, however I would not go in here unless I had to as the queues are just so long. A local Post Office is invaluable but this one is just to busy for my liking due to the closure of the others in the area.
