From day one, GUS has satisfied everyone's needs. I have no question that my children are understood - not just by the teachers and students, but members of the administration and faculty. It is an academically open minded and encouraging place, and thanks to GUS, both my kids have found their voice in ways that pleasantly surprised me. GUS is forward thinking in its mindset, but old fashioned in its process. Trustworthy and creative. It is a very good place.

We found both, and even more at Glen Urquhart. From the first moment of our visit, we were struck by the creativity and goodness that permeate every nook and cranny of this magical campus. 3 years later, our daughter is thriving in every way we could have hoped for: academically, creatively and socially. If you are seeking a place where the educators genuinely care about each child, and work to bring out the best in them, look no further. GUS is your place.

He was able to get the help that he needed in order to succeed, in order to grasp concepts, and thrive and ultimately graduate. My younger son, who is a freshman and also has an IEP and require supports in order to thrive. Succeed and graduate is not getting any supports and main stream. He is unable to grasp the conceptual elements of an algebra problem where is the support and where is the person that is supposed to help him and break this down for him? Additionally, due to his disability being ADHD I believe that certain steps should be taken to revise the tardy policy. Beverly High School has the right to implement any policy they see fit. The policy that they have implemented is as follows three Tarde's equal an absence. Even if a child is succeeding, academically, and is receiving an A But have been tardy to many times they will receive, what's called an A/F ,meaning they pass the class, but essentially they failed it because of the taffy's. The disability act states that the child with a disability should be treated accordingly somebody with ADHD lacks executive functioning skills, organizational skills, time, management skills, etc pretty much it's like asking a child who requires the assistance of a wheelchair to go up the stairs. So far not so good with my youngest son. Make sure you think long and hard before you send your child to Beverly High School. If they are on an IEP and and and main stream classes, they will not receive much hope that I can tell you for certain.

The lunches are also really bad and if you ask me somtimes a saftey hazerd there has been multiable occansions were we got moldy bread with evidence to back this up. And the going outside in the 15 deegres wheather in the winter feels like the worst pain literally ever, and the dress code is so sexist and strictly renforced, in the summer when I just wanna wear a normal tank top as a normal kid I get told to cover up of even get written up. We have some good teachers but some of them are really strict and unreasoable and never listen to what you have to say especially the math and science teacher they are mean and unreasonable. And our long days are so tiring and draining we start at around 8 and we get out at 3;45! its awful espeacially for kids who do after school activeites, we also start the year earlyer and end it later its so sad also we have 90 minute blocks twice a day its so hard for me and other kids to sit that long its so bad there are WAY more awful things about this school but I'm going to get written up if I'm on my computer any longer. But once he started at the Phoenix School, things turned around. He came home after the first day and said, "It's like the teachers aren't even teachers--they're just people!" The caring relationship with his teachers, the community at the school, the way his teachers push him to do more than he thought he could and support him as he learns to push himself has been amazing. He loves school now and is thriving academically, socially, and emotionally. The way they integrate learning across all their activities is special. Students learn all the academic skills throughout all their activities, along with specialized practice in, say, math or writing, especially as they get older. They also use the community at large as their classroom with frequent out-of-the-classroom learning experiences that engage students far more than anything I've seen at any other school. Teachers support students as they produce high-quality work, with autonomy and ownership over their own learning. Teachers are among the most dedicated professional educators I've ever met. They work hard to create a community of students, faculty, staff, parents, and community members dedicated to the well-being and education of students as complete people. It's not possible for me to say enough good things about this school.
