Transform your life in one weekend! That's what Landmark promises, and they don't disappoint! When I took the Landmark Forum, I was fine. I didn't need anything. Life was good! But, within the first few hours of the program, I started seeing my life from a different perspective: I was suddenly able to distinguish thought patterns and childhood decisions I had made that have kept me playing small my whole life! I didn't realize how much I lived my life on auto-pilot, not present, irresponsible for my communication to others; my promises meant nothing! But one weekend in the Landmark Forum and it felt like a fog had been lifted! I wasn't sure what I wanted to get out of the program, but that really didn't matter: I got my whole life! This company IS as good as it gets! HOLY COW! My only regret about taking this class is that I didn't do The Landmark Forum sooner!!!! The first course that a person takes at Landmark is called The Landmark Forum. It's the foundational program; after that, a person can take a number of Landmark's classes. In the Landmark Forum, I really confronted who I was being in my life, and how I truly was the architect of what was going on for me. As difficult as it was to take an honest look, with guidance from the expert leader(s), being authentic was the key to a COMPLETE transformation of my life. And I mean complete! It's been a few years since I've done The Forum. Since that time, I've gotten married, increased my income, and found more inner peace and happiness than I knew was possible. The company TRULY delivered on it's promise that I would be living an extraordinary life. There are some things that drive me a bit crazy about Landmark...the phone calls and the phone calls being the top two :), but dealing with the calls is totally worth what's on the other side of them. I would avoid this place. Uses very high pressure sales man to fool people into paying a large sum of money for a class. The class wasn't helpful and it was just a giant sales pitch to bring your family to a high sales presentation on Tuesday. The worst part of this is they don't offer a satisfaction guaranteed or any money back. They even charge a outrageous price to change your class if you need to. When I first registered for the landmark I had an intense feeling of dread, but I love making people around me happy and the one who funded me was really excited. If I get anything out of this program it will be a lesson on how to say no and trusting my instincts. Landmark brainwashes you by making you tired and sitting you in a windowless room for 13 hours a day. One break. They don't let you take note, have your phone out, and discourage going to the back of the room to stretch. Anything anit-Landmarkian is a "racket". I felt like I'm witnessing a cult of people getting brainwashed to spend hundreds of dollars on this program. I do not agree. They use unethical business practices, high pressured sales tactics. They emotionally abuse people who argue and emotionally manipulate those who are struggling. When I brought up my concerns with the leader, Chad, he told me he "didn't give a f*** what I wanted". The unfortunate thing about the Landmark Forum, is that it does actually have good content. In fact, I believe I will be able to actually transform my life significantly, having learned techniques from them that will help me. Having said that, the methodology seems very misguided, assuming that grown people need to be intimidated, treated with disrespect, provoked, and ridiculed in order to "get it". Both session leaders, Barry and Jo, tried very hard to be gruff and commanding, but honestly, it didn't seem to work for many of the participants. It was slightly embarrassing when Jo would make her British voice screech in order to try to be commanding. I'd like to tell them to stop trying so hard to appear superior- it distracts from the overall good content of the program. I feel sorry for the poor fools who drink their Kool-Aid and provide them with free sales by dragging their unsuspecting friends and family to their sales pitches. The Forum course is three looooong days and one evening, which could be condensed into about maybe 5 hours of content. I would NEVER subject my family or friends to this 98% pressure sales, and 2% content. Simply not worth it for $650. They are also completely irresponsible by telling people to do whatever it takes - including dipping into retirement savings, to enroll in their courses. Complete greed, though they promote their story that they do this to help people. If that were true, this would be free. The instructors' ability to cry on command was impressive. Run away from these people- there are other ways to help yourself other than making these people rich. read more

My life before and after I participated in the Landmark Forum and Landmark's other programs are like two different worlds. Before I participated in the Landmark Forum, I was single, working in a job that I couldn't stand but made a very good living in, and doing very little to pursue causes that were important to me. Through the three and half day Landmark Forum, I was able to see things that were getting in the way of me having what I really wanted - to have an incredible relationship, to start my own business, and to make a difference in the lives of children growing up without all the opportunities I did. After the experience of the Forum where I was able to share about my life with complete strangers (not as scary as it might sound) and get things from my past complete, my life looks completely different. I am in a relationship with my soon to be fiancee; I have started three businesses and am about to close on my third entrepreneurial investment; and I have become involved on a national level with a charity organization very close to my heart, Big Brothers Big Sisters. The biggest change in my life is that I get to see my life every day for the miracle it is, and I can thank Landmark's people and programs for waking me up to my great life. read more

See reviews below by Jeffrey and Marianne. I agree with and experienced the same things at the 3 hour meeting with my loved one who had just completed the weekend forum. HARD sell for 3 hours. Then if you don't sign up and pay deposit for the $650 weekend various landmark volunteers walk around and try to talk you into paying. They are brilliant (and nefarious) in creating a perception that you don't support your loved one if you yourself don't jump in with your credit card. This follow up meeting is billed as a graduation and final step in your loved one's journey. How can you say no to that? Emotional blackmail really. It is a false representation of the purpose of this meeting. once you walk in they try to get all of your contact information (I declined). The facilitator is dynamic, HIGH energy and attractive, of course. Speaking rapidly she spews out any and all life coaching principles in a mishmash of verbal gymnastics. She sprinkles in insinuations that we are incapable of making positive changes in our lives without enrolling and that committing to attending the full weekend ($650) is the only way to change your life. I think if the transcript of her three hour sales pitch was studied (not available ever) you would find many contradictions in her speal. At one point about two hours in, she had this twenty something woman stand at the microphone and engage in a diatribe from the facilitator about why this young woman should pay and enroll (she was a guest that night). Finally the young woman said yes and the facilitator directed her to a table where they charged her credit card. Everyone applauded at the direction of the facilitator. This young woman actually said that she checked her credit card to see if she had any available credit to charge the $650. So she's adding more debt to go to a three day seminar on how to live victoriously (including financially). I appreciated the irony but it turned my stomach as well. The fee is unreasonable and outrageous for the content. I have spoken with three people who attended the weekend and they couldn't articulate what concrete changes can occur but described feeling'lighter'. read more

I was talked into attending this class by a good friend of mIne, really just to get him to quit bugging me about it. I honestly thought about just ditching it and usin the time I took off work to goof off. But I'm glad I went because it changed my life. I didn't get anything out of it until the middle of the second day, but once I did, everything seemed to fall in place and I was able to make the mOst of my life. Even people who didn't really know me noticed an immediate difference in me. Everyone wanted to know why I was so happy and excited about life. My parents asked if I had joined a cult. I got people who were happy for me and people who were skeptical of the program. But everyone agreed that I had changed for the better and I was a genuinely happy person. I highly recommend the Landmark Forum to anyone, wether they think they're satisfied with their lives or are going through some rough patches. It is a little expensive, and I personally had to save up for it, but trust me, it was worth every penny. read more

Landmark "Education" started in the 1970s with far-reaching goals: to "transform" people's lives. It offered some condensed philosophy from Eastern traditions Plus a lot of sales and "motivation" hype. It was called the est training and had been started by Werner Erhard. Today it offers much of the same program, with the addition of a new focus on "possibilities" in the future. Instead of providing direct, individual response to a customer's question (in or out of its courses), it provides standard answers and responses which are all repeated endlessly by the staff and its repeat customers. Recently when a working single mom asked her seminar "leader" some questions, she was told to sit down without an answer. Later when she did not attend the next meeting, the leader repeatedly called her and harrssed her to try to get her to return. (Low attendance made the leader look bad.) Basically this is a high powered sales organization that runs on "corporate" procedure and "canned" answers. Its main goal is to get you to sign up for more courses. It has no respect or regard for past customers and its "staff" only give canned answers. Not worth your time or money! read more

Landmark "education" is basically a "re-programming" of your thoughts and habits. It also provides a chance to view your life from a different perspective. The course started in the mid-70s and has since grown into a huge corporation that prizes itself on being "corporate" by "enrolling" you, your friends and family into its "work." The company depends on the customers to bring in new members as it doesn't use paid advertising, and it also uses customers as volunteer "assistants" to do most of the office work. The basic 3-day course is delivered by a (paid) high energy leader who spends much of the time hawking future courses. The "graduate" courses are led by volunteers. There is some value here if you can tune out the sales pitch and the insistence on using their "jargon" when you are in the course. (Avoid Mary Grace, a volunteer leader who will try to "coach" you if you use your own vocabulary. She also is biased against working moms who may have schedule conflicts that prevent them from attending all meetings). Overall, it is a very slick program that demands your follow its rules. read more

Landmark courses have been around since the early 70's, started by Werner Erhard and based on the "Be Here Now" philosophy of Ram Das with a strong dash of smart sales psychology. This for-profit business is thriving as it sells the promise of "transformation" that will make everyday life problems/challenges lessen. The business model includes no paid advertising, as the customers are constantly urged to "bring guests" and "enroll" them in the course. Customers are also urged to volunteer in the office, on the phones, and in the courses as "assistants," thus saving the company labor costs. About one-third of the time in the evening seminars is taken up with promotion of other courses and hyper sales pitches by the office staff. So, if you don't mind the continual pitch, you may find a few gems of wisdom scattered throughout. When you sign up, if you do, you will be expected to continue to sign up for other courses and events. The programs are highly structured and require participants to use Landmark jargon, rather than everyday language. The 3 day course leaders are paid; however the evening seminar leaders are all volunteers. A few are effective, some are not. Are these courses worth the steep prices? Probably not. read more

Today's featured course, the Landmark Forum, teaches personal responsibility and accountability and promises "transformation." Its advocates and course leaders use specific jargon and catch phrases which are suppose to help participants overcome their problems and start to create a life of possibility. The course does provide a chance for self-assessment; however the formulas that are presented demand that users all speak in jargon and know the "distinction of the distinction" in order to advance. In addition, the company (Landmark) is run mostly by volunteers who are suppose to advance their own growth by "assisting." After taking the main course, the Forum, participants are pressured to sign up for follow-up courses and to "share" their insights with friends and families. Thus, the company has grown from a handfull of participants in the early 70's in San Francisco. The course material is based on Eastern and some Western philosophy, with a heavy does of sales psychology and group dynamics. However, in today's market, with so much material and so many courses easily available online, the steep prices and time commitment of the Landmark courses are not much of a bargain for the average customer. The Denver center is located in a shopping center off the highway, so it is easily accessible by car; however there is no light rail station nearby for those without cars. Because the courses rely so heavily on jargon and prescribed behavior and because of their steep prices, I can only give this company a so-so rating. read more
