We didn't want to leave this review. In October, we reached out to Lan with an upholstery project: two small chairs, and we had the fabric to recover them. He was very responsive, and was willing to work with us even though we wouldn't be purchasing fabric from him. We dropped the chairs off in mid-Nov, paid a deposit. He said he could have the chairs ready by the second week of December, even though he had other projects ahead of ours, and was planning to move his shop. A week before Christmas, we reached out to him- no response. When we still hadn't heard from him a couple weeks into January, we began to worry. Lan works on his own, and we were genuinely concerned he was unwell. By the end of January, we had: physically visited his shop, left voicemails and multiple texts, emailed his business address, and mailed a physical letter to his home address (the address for his business on the payment app). It wasn't until we finally contested the deposit on the payment app that he reached out to us. He was very apologetic and said he had health issues, including a hospitalization over Christmas, and was just getting caught up. He promised the chairs in two weeks. We told him that was fine, and after three weeks checked in. He told us they would be ready for pickup the next week. We asked to schedule a time- no response. Now, it is Apr 26 and we haven't heard from him in over a month. Though the payment app refunded our deposit, we are out two armchairs and over 9 yards of upholstery fabric. We are leaving this review in the hopes no one else has a similar experience. read more

Service and quality! I had to have a door panel on my truck reupholstered. When I brought the truck in, Lannie, the owner, said that he could take the fellow who does vehicle work off what he was working on so the job could be done within a couple of hours. This worked out well for us because we live an hour away from Spokane. Removing the door panels was a lot more difficult than expected but he got it done. When we returned a couple of hours later, the job was done and done well! He had the perfect fabric in stock. Remounting the door panel with the reupholstered section was a lot easier than removing it. I am extremely pleased. The price was not cheap but it was reasonable. I couldn't ask for a better job. read more

Lan's did a fantastic job on my kitchen chairs. I had originally purchased fabric and padding and was going to have a go at DIY but after the first one...lets just say i needed professional help. I took the fabric and padding and cushions to him and he did a great job! Now all 6 match and no more pokes in the bum when I sit. Thank you! read more

Lab did a beautiful job making 4 cushions for my little camper. He was even able to get them finished sooner than promised when I told him that I was planning on taking the camper on a trip. The cushions are nice and firm, even comfy for sleeping. He also called me with a concern of the fabric pattern not working the way we originally discussed. So we were able to address that before they were done. read more

Lannie did a great job with an old 1930s/40s wingback chair that we wanted reupholstered in Pendleton fabric. I bought 7 yards of fabric at the annual Pendleton Woolen Mills fabric sale (every September all fabric is 30% off at the factory store in Portland--an amazing deal!). Lannie expertly laid it out and gave us back a beautiful chair. It's been brought back to life. He also had a matching footstool in his inventory that he threw in for a bit extra. He was easy to communicate with and always promptly got back to us. He even picked up and dropped off the chair as part of the deal. I would highly recommend him and will definitely suggest his work to friends. read more

Wow! What a great find. We've use Lan's for two recent jobs. The first was to reconfigure four floor pillows we had had made from some Japanese textiles into smaller bench cushions. Lan did a great job, salvaging and showing off the original textiles while cutting the pillows down in size and increasing their loft. We then had Lan reupholster two swivel barrel chairs. Because Lan buys up odd-lots of fabric, he can provide fabric from his own inventory much less expensively than from the commercial catalogs he also offers. We ended up with a great price for a superb job in just the color we wanted. Can't recommend highly enough! read more

Lan is a pro. I see why all the reviews are so great! I went to him to get four dining room chairs re-covered. Found his business on yelp and decided to try his services. I was not at all disappointed. He helped me pick some great fabrics, consulted w me and totally did not try to upsell me. In fact he made a suggestion of something I didn't need to do which not only saved me money but also made the chairs look better! Thank you, Lan! I'm a huge fan. :) read more

I brought in four dining room table chairs on a Monday. I asked Lannie how long it would take and he said a week. I explained how I needed them by Friday evening because I had a photographer coming over to take pictures of my house so I could get it on the market. He said he could be done by Friday and he did! When I saw the chairs they exceeded my expectations! I was very pleased with his work and his ability to get done in time. I definitely would use him again. read more

I cannot recommend this shop highly enough! I found Lan's after having a horrible upholstery experience in Salem, involving my 92 year old mother's chairs. The Salem shop had her chairs for over a year and kept extending the finish date when I finally got them back only one chair was complete. Lan's was able to fit the chairs in and get them done in less than a month! Both craftsmanship and service was excellent, I'm so grateful! read more

We had great faith when we took a chair and couch in for complete re upholstery in Lanie Keihn and his ability to do a professional job. There are so many problems from seams that were not completed, places where you see the wood frame. The arm covers I am picturing here are so sloppy they can't be used. Buyer beware and don't lose money like we did using this shop. read more

Big shout out to Lan's Upholstery @ 2747 N. Lombard in North Portland. Lan took on a challenge from me & turned it into a masterpiece for a very reasonable price. He took an old Moroccan rug of mine, some recycled leather, & covered a well-worn wingback chair, creating a one-of-a-kind piece. Great selection of fabrics, friendly & courteous service, expert craftsmanship, timely turnaround. Give Lan a call next time you are contemplating repairing or upgrading a piece of furniture. Lan recovered my entire patio set of cushions. They look great and the work was excellent quality. Lan took a little longer than was expected, but he went above and beyond to make it right, including throwing in a few throw pillows with the extra fabric. Neighborhood treasure. Great pricing and affordable fabrics that survived my animals.

My sister bought me a very old borderline antique chair with ottoman at a yard sale...unfortunately my doggie love it as well...so much that she decided to play with it and take huge bites out of it. I sent pic's to Lan and he advised me to reupholster vs trying to repair the gaping holes. I chose a beautiful affordable material and couldn't be happier with the finished job. I would attach a picture but the picture does not do it justice. Happy Happy Happy with my beautiful like new/old chair and ottoman!! read more

Lannie Keihn does shoddy work, regardless of years of experience, website, & reviews. I had previously purchased fabric and a cushion, so he quoted $275 and 2 weeks to complete my chair. For the 2 months he held my chair, he immediately stripped it (smart move), then refused to let me see it & would ignore my calls for progress updates when he was beyond the due date. He also did not initially inform me that he was in the process of moving his business, so he was preoccupied with other priorities. He admitted to not starting my chair until 2 days before it was "complete." I was mortified to see the end result; but if I didn't give him the $275 cash, he wasn't going to release it: mismatched corners/finishes, exposed staples & frame, fabric dimpling, you can feel the frame in some areas (pics have been uploaded to Yelp). There's over 3 yards of fabric leftover, so the work doesn't make sense. In hindsight, I would have paid $300 more to have it done correctly by a professional the first time. I'm now going to have to pay another upholsterer to fix this crappy work. Lann's Upholstery has moved from The Shop People Warehouse and is now located on 3200 N. Lombard. read more

Lan recovered two chairs for me. They look great, work was excellent quality and the price was very reasonable. Lan was able to save my grandmother's needlepoint which was very important to me. Lanny recently reupholstered a set of 6, 3rd generation Danish teak dining chairs for us. We inherited these chairs from my wife's grandfather. It was very important to us that we return these chairs to their previous glory. We considered doing the job ourselves but became quickly frustrated and decided we needed a pro. After calling around to multiple reupholsters in Portland we became frustrated with other businesses not giving accurate (or any) price quote over the phone. Lanny picked up right away and was very helpful and upfront from our first conversation. When I went in to his shop to meet him, he was very friendly and helpful. After choosing our fabric in his shop, he wrote me the bid and I was on my way. I was happily surprised when he called me a mere 10 days later to tell us our chairs were done. He then offered to deliver them to our house that same day at no cost! You could tell how proud of the work he was too! It felt great to support such a wonderful, local business. We are so happy with the job that Lanny did for us. I would highly recommend him to anyone in need of upholstery work. read more

Lannie did a good job with our chair and he did it on time and on budget. Not much more i can ask for. I will use him again.

Lan was great, we took an old saggy leather sofa to Lan 2 weeks ago and he was able to repair the springs and put webbing in it to make it better than new. He put better foam in the cushions and now it's like we have a new sofa. We will certainly use Lan for our Upholstry needs. read more
