Hertz - On the right is what we pre-paid. On the left is the $600+ "upgraded" car.

Hertz Car Rental - Lisbon Airport (Portugal)…read more THIS LOCATION IS A TOURIST TRAP. I BELIEVE THIS IS INTENTIONAL. DO NOT RENT HERE. I reserved a car online in advance with UNLIMITED MILEAGE clearly stated. When I arrived at the Lisbon Airport counter, I was told they "only had two cars available." I was under extreme stress because my husband was very ill, and I needed to get on the road quickly in a foreign country. Only afterward did I discover they added a €600 "upgrade" charge without clearly informing me or asking for my consent. This was not explained at the counter. It was simply added. Then came another shock: €429 charged for time and mileage, even though my reservation was explicitly UNLIMITED MILEAGE. This was not a misunderstanding. This was not poor communication. I believe this is intentional. The setup feels designed to take advantage of exhausted, stressed, and vulnerable travelers -- especially tourists who trust a major brand and don't realize what is being slipped into the contract at the counter. When I disputed the charges with Hertz corporate, I was told they could do nothing because this location is "independently owned." The local office refused a refund and hid behind "you signed the contract," despite failing to clearly explain the charges in the first place. This location uses the Hertz name to operate what feels like a predatory tourist trap at an international airport. Protect yourself. Rent from ANY other company at Lisbon Airport.

SCAM ALERT - please read…read more Hertz doesn't have their location at the airport listed on Yelp, so I have to use this one. Hertz had our PREPAID reservation for more than 3 months before our trip. When we arrived, exhausted from the overnight trip, they told us that the car that we had reserved and paid for was not available. The only option was to upgrade to a "larger" car or cancel the reservation. We took the larger car at an additional cost of more than $600. When we went into the lot to get our car, they had several dozen of the car we had previously reserved, which was actually larger. When we complained, they said that those weren't available and we had already signed for the upgrade. Too bad. We tried complaining to Hertz, but they said that the location is a franchise location and that they have no control -- even though we made the reservation through Hertz. We tried to contest it through Chase as a fraudulent business practice, but with the signed (coerced) contract, they wouldn't do anything about it. Our only recourse would be to call Hertz in Portugal. We have tried calling and the person answering only says that a manager isn't available and that they would call us back. 3 tries. Never called back. Here is a picture of the car we prepaid (right) and the car they "upgraded" us to. BE WARNED - they have mastered this tourist scam. You will arrive tired and be lied to with no recourse.

March 2021: FS Automoveis of Lisbon, advertised an Aston Martin Cygnet for sale. I asked if the car…read morecould be shipped to and registered in Texas, USA. Not only did they say yes, but the salesman informed me, in writing, that he had previously sold two of these in the US and specifically one of which was in Texas. I wired the full amount that they were asking for the car plus the transportation costs and they told me that it would be delivered to my door in 30 days. I thought that their delivery schedule was optimistic due to customs etc., in Texas, so I started checking and asking more questions (that I should have done before wiring the money, but he said there were no problems last time). Importation of a car not built for the US is expensive as components, such as lights, need to be changed for DOT approved versions, of which none exist for the Cygnet. Examination of the structural elements are also required. The bottom line is that 150% of the value of the car has to be paid up front from which the importers can use to carry out tests and changes - and also to export the car if it cannot be made to meet the US specs. I told this to FS Automoveis and they told me that they had NEVER sold ANY Cygnets to the US after all. I asked to cancel the deal BEFORE the car was loaded on the ship, but they did not stop the loading. The car travelled around Europe and to the US before returning (eventually) to Lisbon and back to the dealer. The owner of FS Automoveis have only returned 85% of the purchase price of the car and nothing of the shipping costs, in spite of the fact that the transaction would never have been agreed had they not lied to me in the first place. Their LIES have cost me 10,631 EURO. They are advertising the car for sale today for 6% more than I paid.

I bought in 2019 a Renault 5 gt turbo. I asked them if the Renault 5 gt turbo was 100% authentic…read more The price was high so for this price i wanted a original renault 5 gt turbo. The renault 5 was restored and was 100% authentic according the manager. I had to pay 750 euro for shipping the car from Lisbon to the Netherlands. When the Renault 5 arrived in the Netherlands (i was at my work so i did see the renault 5 later) i saw that the renault 5 was not original. One of the skirts was a lot shorter then the rest of the skirts. Very ugly and why should you make the skirt shorter? I had to sell it because this is not a original renault 5 gt turbo. It cost me a lot of money because every potential seller saw that the skirt was not all right. Are there still spare parts? Can you order one skirt? And what is the price. Not once the manager asked me how we could solve my problem! If i had knew (and i asked the manager SEVERAL times!) that this was not a original renault 5 gt turbo i would never bought it and now i have lost 750 euro shipping cost and i sold the renault for a lot less. The manager could have paid me the shipping cost back. He could have paid me a amount back but there is only one who lost a lot of money and that is me. Very bad service and i would never buy a car at FS Automoveis!!! I wonder what the owner of FS Automoveis would have done if a client had a complaint about a Aston Martin, Porsche, Jaguar etc?
