I rented a car from Hertz for one day at €26, plus €14 for insurance coverage. I later decided to…read moreextend the rental for one additional day.
That same day, I tried calling Hertz several times because I wanted to understand the cost and terms before extending, but I was unable to reach anyone. My plan was to stop by a Hertz location and speak with someone in person, but before I could do that, I received a call from Monica, the store manager.
Monica informed me that the additional day would cost approximately €180, including the €14 insurance. When I returned the car, I spoke with Monica again and asked whether the rate could be adjusted, but she declined.
I understand that the additional-day rate was included in the contract and that the contract was in English. However, the Hertz representative never verbally disclosed that extending the rental by one day would increase the cost from €26 to roughly €166 before insurance. Had that rate been clearly explained to me, I would have simply reserved the car for two days from the beginning.
What was most frustrating is that I made a genuine effort to contact Hertz and understand the extension before proceeding, but I was unable to reach anyone. Monica explained that nothing could be done because the car was already rented, yet when I checked online that same day, similar vehicles were still available to rent.
Based on this experience, I would not recommend this location. I believe customers should be clearly informed of a substantial rate increase like this when requesting an extension, especially when the difference is this significant.
