We needed a small part for one of our most beautiful Tiffany table lamps that was lost during our recent move. This small part (vase cap) holds the glass shade and is required to put the lamp back together. We visited the store where we bought this lamp; they had no parts. They referred us to Lamp Shade House. What a little gold mine of parts and talented staff. The manager/owner recommended a touchpad switch for another lamp used by my wife on her nightstand. This allows one finger touch to turn on the new 3-way LED bulb. Now, my wife can read in bed, then reach over to snuff out the light while not even removing her covers! The TouchPad is perfect! Fast, friendly, knowledgeable; these folks always do an exquisite job. It's not "cheap", because you get what you pay for. You can't go wrong bringing your lamp here for repair. I found a vintage figurine lamp on the west coast that needed several things done. I swaddled her in bubble wrap, drove her to Memphis on a cross country move, and dropped her off here for repair. A week later she had a beautiful new custom painted base, new cord, and new supportive rod for the shade. (Yes I know it's no longer original vintage. But it works now and is beautiful.) I adore this place! They are very friendly and helpful. One of the ladies listened to what I was looking for and made suggestions with five lamps I had brought in. Three were rewired and I purchased lamp shades and finials for all of them. If you are purchasing a lampshade remember to bring the lamp with you as they take the time, effort, and energy to run around selecting different sizes and shapes that may best compliment your lamp. It is very much like selecting a formal gown, you need the correct size, color, and shape. You may have the actual dimensions of your lamp, but actually viewing the shades in store is so important. I had them rewire and paint an antique chandelier that a cousin was kind enough to gift me. I had been in love with this fixture for almost 40 years. Well needless to say the paint looked as if it was snowing every time I moved it. But the results, you be the judge. This place is a true jewel in Memphis! The Lamp Shade House has a beautiful selection of new lamps, but their repair service is nowhere near the quality of their retail selection. I took a lamp there for a minor repair, after being referred to them by another lamp shop. The repair was sloppy, and the correction they proposed when I pointed out the problem would have also been sloppy, if I hadn't insisted on better. But the price they charged was premium - half of what I originally paid for the lamp. Ugh. Not a good experience. read more

I stumbled upon this place while searching for lamp shade places through Memphis and was stoked to get in here and find something fabulous. We have an old train lamp of my husband's as a child that we are trying to rehab- lamp shade being the most crucial piece to finish this item. I just knew after months of searching for the perfect shade that I would find it inside a shop advertising lamp shades right? Nope. Holy hell fire this place is expensive! Most of the shades are made of silk or other very expensive fabrics, and the prices reflect as such. I didn't find anything cheaper than $50 bucks and we're talking a small side table lamp- not a average sized shade. Were the pieces gorgeous? Yes, obviously. I'm just not going to fork out $50 bucks on a lamp shade for a child's room. Really, I'm not gonna shell out $50 bucks for a lamp shade for any room in my house, but that's just me. They had some really fabulous pieces here- again upwards of $500 bucks for the entire lamp. Now, the lamps here? I would definitely shell out the money for those if I had it lying around. They also sell all the lamp parts you could imagine. I don't know what they are all called, but if your lamp needs a part- you'll be sure to find it here. You'll pay good money for it, but you'll find it here. I will warn you, the second we walked in a lady behind the counter started in on my husband asking if we brought the actual lamp with us. We didn't, but we had specific measurements, etc. I mean, who would go looking for such an item without these details? She basically told my husband they wouldn't sell us a lamp shade without first seeing the lamp to make sure it was the correct fit. I get it, I get it. I'm sure they have had issues in the past with returns, etc. But sheesh. Talk about rubbing us the wrong way right off the bat. When we told her we didn't have the lamp, but wanted to keep looking around, she as well as the rest of the staff ignored us the rest of our visit. Touche Lamp Shade House, touche. I'm going to be fair and give this place 3 stars, though it totally isn't my cup of tea. I won't be coming back here for any lamp purchases. As it turns out, I found a fabulous shade for $15 bucks at The Pottery Barn Outlet. Works for me. read more

As I am reading the previous post, I must tell you my story about this store. The store has been in business over 40 years and it is family owned and operated. I went in recently with two silk lamp shades that were 15 years old and the lining had torn. I needed to replace these because the lamps that they came from were Fredrick Cooper lamps and incredibly expensive. Based on Internet research I knew the new shades would be expensive and I had no luck finding the exact shades to replace. I took my shades in and a 33 year old Stiffel lamp made of brass that needed a repair. I told the lady behind the counter that I wanted to replace the lamp shades and she said they would be difficult to replace but she could repar them. Even better! Off they go and she said they would be back before thanksgiving. They were and they were beautifully repaired. Instead of paying over $100 per shade for a replacement, I spent $50 per shade to repair what I already really liked. Now for the Stiffel lamp that I brought in for a minor repair. The founder of the store recognized the lamp maker and told me that the company is no longer in business and that the lamp was a classic that was well- tended. He said to make sure our children never old it in an estate sale for $1. The lady asked me what was wrong with it and I showed her the base was loose. Another gentleman promptly took the lamp to the back and repaired it. The lady asked if I wanted to give it an upgrade and so she started putting different shades on it. The first one looked fantastic and I bought that and a new finial. The lamp looks brand new! Yes, I spent about $75 for a shade and a finial but I have a lamp that will look great for another 30 years. Bottom line: 1. BRing your lamp with you, she has a fantastic eye 2. The lamps they offer are beautiful and you will have them for many years to come 3. Excellent service 4. If you have "investment" lamps, they can repair anything that CAN be repaired. 5. I love supporting small, local businesses I saw this post because I was checking their hours, as I am taking two lamps in to be repaired today. read more

I have been to this store many times over the years and read the previous review...the reason they ask for the lamp is that they want to make sure the shade fits perfectly. I have been more than amazed at their choices for the lamps that I have brought in...it is an investment but worth every penny. I brought in a chandelier to have them fix it up and not only did they do a wonderful job, I even used an employee to come to my house and hang it for me. I visited this store for the first time today and will try to find reasons to go back. They were so kind and courteous. I went in not really sure where to begin. I had a mini-lamp shade for my ceiling fan that wasn't fitting well. Not only did they help me with the light bulb (the real culprit) but helped me find a better shade size for the fan. The lady that helped me spent time with me, even though they were very busy. She gave me her undivided attention and wasn't pushy. I was very impressed. I really liked this store and will be going back. I have an antique marble lamp that was sitting around for years because I could never get around to finding a shade to fit. I brought it in to them. They totally restored the lamp with new wiring, new bulb sockets, pull chains, shade, and finial. The shade he selected looks amazing, all for $150. I have another antique alabaster lamp that needs an overhaul, headed there today. These are heirloom pieces that are worth the money in my opinion. read more
