Their Barbera, Grenache, Tannat are all exceptional - the highlight being the Three Gardens SMG blend that really showcases their strength (and for a total bargain price too). I'm not the world's biggest port fan, but those in our party that were swooned at their Tawny. Staff were super nice even though they were busy at times juggling different groups. This winery is only about 15 minutes from my friend's house and the view was splendid. We drove up to a packed parking lot and were hoping we'd find a seat. It's a boutique winery only open on the weekends. After heading straight to the open lawn and taking in the scenery, we headed inside to see if they had tastings available. They place all the bottles on the counter that they are available to taste so sometimes the items on the tasting menu they have in front of you isn't the same. The man who started our tasting for us wasn't the kindest and that's unfortunate because it cost the place a star. He was short and got us started for our tasting but then started serving other customers that came in. Another staff member continued and served us a few other options but a smile and a little more attentiveness to your customers would go along way. I loved the 2013 Sparkling Frontignac. OMG! It was very me. It's fresh, crispy, bubbly, and has touches of peach! I love peaches and the sip from start to finish was great! I really wish that I had purchased a bottle now. The food coming from the kitchen smelled wonderful! They had cheese platters, brushetta, and pizzas available. I wish we could come a little later so we could have had lunch but we started our tour here and ended up having coffees or a glass of sparkling in my case! Great place where I saw families with kids, big groups, a 50th birthday celebration, and couples. It's a place for everyone!

For such a long drive you would expect a lunch with fresh local produce but all they offer is set pre made pizza or bruschetta and that's it. The pizza was your standard Pizza Hut type deep pan pizza and no beer is available. They can't make 'flat whites' well. If on a budget and you just want a big slice of pizza and a glass of wine then this place is perfect but the winery lunch has moved so far from this place in recent years. Even with the pizzas after getting used to gourmet wood fired thin pizzas now available in so many places it was a bit hard going back to these old style thick greasy cheesey salty Pizzas. The bruschetta was good though but after that you don't feel like more of the same on a pizza. I suspect they cater mostly to locals and they do what they do well. With their set system they can serve a large number of people quickly so unlike other winery restaurants that try to get too complex you won't have to wait long. Great lawn area for kids and a great place for a big group on a budget. The service was prompt and everything was hot.

Was not disappointed, Michael Papps was a fantastic host making spectacular wines that speak for themselves. Walked away with probably the best Pinot noir I have tasted of Australian origin, with only 600 bottles made I count myself lucky. Minimal intervention wine, relaxed tasting experience without the snobbery very commonly linked with some places in the industry. Will be back again for sure. Good range of home grown goodies (lentils etc) to take away if you aren't a big wino, with regional cheese platters on offer. Great outside area for chilling out with a few wines and good company.

Then again, I'm not much of an expert in the age of plants. The cellar door is rather small, but they do have a nice area outside where you can sit and enjoy some wine. In fact, the wine itself isn't all that bad either. While it is close to Tanunda, it is still a bit of a hike from the town, but then again you pretty much need a car to get anywhere in the Barossa.

It is such a heaving, complex beast, the winery, if you ever get a chance to check out the guts of one on your travels. Everything from planting, protecting, feeding and nurturing (I'm not kidding, Turkey Flat sprayed sunscreen on their vines last vintage! Who woulda thunk it!?) the vines, to the picking, producing, fermenting, bottling, marketing etc etc etc, there are a LOT of moving parts! And to try and understand them is why some people spend years at university learning the craft. However, most wineries won't give you all of their dirty little secrets (alright, some of them might, but they don't want to ruin their chance of a sale so it's unlikely!) that most of the winery workers know. Turkey Flat is the exception for me here. Not that there were any dirty little secrets to be told this time around, but the cellar door attendant, despite only doing 1 day a week, was extremely knowledgable about all of the wines and provided us with some great info on the various vintages, grapes and also general goings on in the area, following the Annual Barossa Vintage Festival which was held last weekend. Go check out the website for more info on the wines, and do yourself a favour and pop in here while you're up in the BV. It's a worthwhile experience and you will taste some truly magic wines.

They show you around the area where they still make all the wines by hand using really old fashioned equipment. The wine tasting area is a small old building from the 1860's. Dark and quaint. They don't charge for tasting which is astonishing as you could taste you 10 or more wines. They have quite a range of varietals and some interesting looking sauces and jams for sale. Luke and Mark took care of us and were very friendly and informative. They recommended several other wineries to visit in the area.

Wolf Blass visitors centre and cellar door is quite impressive. The building has been crafted in…read morethe shape of a wine barrel with a eagle nest statue in the centre. Each quarter of the building was created for different purposes. The interesting one you will want to check out has a wine tasting gallery (with cheese boards available). There are walls of trophies and fancy bottles which add to the impressive feel of the building. For $5 the staff will do a quick wine tasting with you, there is plenty of room to cater for tour busses so try and get in when it's empty. Nice wine, pretty place and good for a stop over on the way to other places.
