After seeing the page of rave reviews from some of the biggest media outlets in the US it was a,no brainer. Finding a bnb that accepts dogs is hard enough but down the cape during August was an epic score. With a heated saltwater pool no doubt and plenty of parking. Owners and staff could not be friendlier and our room was plenty large with full fridge and awesome tile shower with five heads ,ac and fan plenty of Windows and sliders to pool . Only drawback was nightly fire by our bathroom window forced us to keep Windows shut due to smoke and smell, would be better off in back yard. Quick drive or brisk walk to the village with awesome market, Nirvana coffee and Italian restaurant plus pond and dog park. Only factor preventing a five star review is can't leave dog onsite . Great little spot. We have a german shepherd and since it was off season they were accommodating of him! Its tough to find pet friendly places in the cape from what I found so this was a pleasure to find. My wife and I and our dog Timber were in Lair 1. Nice little spot, its a quiet end of hallway room. The owners were great. Tom talked to me before I got there and Eileen showed us the whole place when we got there. The cental pool and hot tub with outdoor shower is great! I can't speak for in season how busy it may get but for out of peak season it was perfect. We'll definitely be back! read more

Lovely place. Well kept. The free mini breakfast in the AM was great. Just enough. Homemade granola and yogurt! Beds, bathrooms, etc, everything was very clean. And the inn keepers were amazing! I would give the Lamb and Lion Inn 10 stars if that was an option! It's a special place, run by great people, and I highly recommend the suite, "Innkeeper's Pride"! Had such an amazing stay there, we promptly booked the suite again the following weekend! We had a whirlpool tub, a private deck and a kitchenette. We loved being able to mix up an evening cocktail to enjoy on our deck, and we had morning coffee overlooking the beautiful grounds. The word "breakfast" doesn't describe the amazing selection of homemade goodies the chef provides, and the eggs benedict I ordered to my room was absolute perfection. Did I mention there is a solar-heated saltwater pool and a *year-round* hot tub? Hoping to try a private yoga session and maybe get a massage during our next visit! Book your stay soon! We wanted to visit Cape Cod in September, Farmers Almanac predicted one of the worst storm seasons in many years back in July when I started my search. I was searching for the oldest standing Inns that had weathered many storms. i love the history of Cape Cod. The original parts of the this Inn date back to the early 1700's, giving me a feeling of safe harbor. By the week before, the fifth category 5 hurricane of the year was headed north. Kudos to Farmers Almanac. I almost cancelled because of all of the hurricanes. However, I chose the Lamb and Lion Inn mainly because it had the greatest reviews, and after talking to Eileen, her calm knowledge of Cape Cod weather convince us to come. She predicted that Maria would hit cold water and lose power, she was right, and the weather was a fantastic 75 to 85 degrees nearly our entire stay. The best vacation weather we had found in years. Although the Inn has fireplaces in all rooms, it stayed perfect weather, too warm for fireplaces, no need for the AC. Eileen did everything in her power to exceed the reviews that I had read. We found ourselves wanting to return for vacation with our family even before we had to leave. The feeling is more like visiting distant family that it is like staying at an Inn. They are super conscientious of dietary needs. The rooms have a great variety of options, including kitchenettes, jacuzzi tubs, private decks, and the barn is a fun and funky large family space with a suite of armor! Every room/suite is a little different. I chose the calm masculine one to suit my husband. Love staying here! My husband and I have stayed here a couple times in the spring time, visiting our daughter who lives in Hyannis. I love that we can bring our small dog, and the inn keepers can't be nicer. The rooms are great, good size, clean and comfortable. Loved that we had a little kitchenette in our room. And just a walk away is the cute little Barnstable village with a few restaurants and a beautiful market, a pretty beach and so many beautiful homes. We will be back. read more

We stayed here for my 30th birthday and everything was lovely. Our room had a bottle of wine and chocolate-covered strawberries waiting for us. Tom gave us a tour and let us meet the doggies that live with them! Breakfast is out in a common area, and we took ours back to our room on a tray to enjoy in bed. If you want something more substantial than toast, breads and yogurt, you can order egg dishes for a little extra. The fridge is stocked with water and sodas as well. One of the highlights is the self-guided driving tours. Tom gave us great advice on parking and driving up to Provincetown, and we enjoyed our day touring the cape. As this was our first time staying at a B+B, we were nervous that our experience would be too hands on - but this is not the case here. We returned home today from a one-night stay at the Lamb and Lion. It was phenomenal. We arrived to meet Eileen, who was warm and welcoming. She told us that our room had been upgraded due to our special night (first night alone since our son was born). The Innkeeper's Pride was gorgeous -- lovely living spaces, an easy-to-use wood fireplace, a private Jacuzzi tub in the room and a wraparound porch with a private entrance. It was so incredibly relaxing. If you have a couple of free nights and want to go someplace wonderfully relaxing, I strongly recommend choosing the Lamb and Lion. read more

This is an amazing gem on the upper cape. Conveniently located on 6A nestled in a residential area this amazing Inn gives any vacationer a relaxing environment to rest and rejuvenate. The rooms are warm and welcoming. The continental breakfast is homemade and a treat for any person into good, healthy, and inviting food. I came here about a year ago for a friend's bachelorette and stayed at the Barn-stable. (we made a pact that we would try going every year as a getaway! ) So of course after talking and raving about it to my boyfriend, he decided to surprise me for our first year anniversary, which was a couple of weeks ago. I was sooo happy to be going back. I raved about the pool; heated and salt watered!!!! ( Till this day the group I came with for the first time said we would never use a regular pool again) Once we got there Ally (one of the keeps) showed us around the area and our room. When I told her i came a year ago and stayed at the Barn she remembered ( HOW AWESOME IS THAT). We then saw Tom ( one of the owners, which ALSO remembered me!!!) I loved staying at the Inn. there is a great book in each room that has all the great restaurants to eat in and places to visit ( It also helps that Tom is a foodie and writes about the great restaurants and food!!!!!!) We ended up eating at one of them and loved it!!!!!!!!! Our room had a bath Jacuzzi in addition to a shower. We had our own little kitchen and our own private deck. We especially enjoyed the hot tub that is found outside near the pool. We legit woke up early on our last day to spend time in the hot tub and a quick dip in the pool ( it was still to early in the year for the pool to be warm- but with a hot tub near by it did not matter). I had such a great time. This is by far the only Inn I would visit anywhere in the Cape! Tom and Ally are great hostesses. The inn feels like a home away from home whether you stay at the Barn ( almost like an apartment/house) or if you rent a room. I would recommend this place to anyone; families, friends, couples. its a place for all!!!!!! read more

I must admit that there is a complete disconnect between my experience and the strong reviews and awards I've seen all over the internet for L&L. Kudos for receiving 5 stars on Yelp and Trip Advisor. However, my experience and perspective is a bit different. Check in at the office brought me into an room (or let's say workspace) that seemed to be of someone who could definitely benefit from a professional organizer. Papers and books and things were crowded/stacked into a small space. But hey, let's not judge by their personal space and get to the Inn. I was given an orientation and brought into the main communal area. The halls and communal area were not air conditioned...which was aligned with their self-admitted environmentally conscious style. Good for them...not so much for these guests during an especially hot day. That being said, bonus points for the cute lamb and lion prints on the walls of the main entrance. The remaining hallway walls were hand-painted amateur-looking New England themed murals ...boating, sky, clouds, etc. that looked like they might have been drawn by a middle-school student. View attached pictures and you can see that the room entrances/halls looked like something you might see in one of those pop-up haunted house tours around Halloween. As for the rooms, they were furnished with outdated furniture, carpets, and accoutrements. Didn't quite have that "whimsical" feel that they were going for. I would expect that a New England B&B should either have a classic/ traditional New England experience or the other extreme of Modern New England (e.g., they could take a lesson from the Cottages at Chatham Bars Inn. Their playbook seemed to work). L&L rooms were more like 1970s leftovers. The room had a custom prepared three-ring notebook with an overview of the Inn/Owners (with self-congratulatory comments)/Surroundings/Things to Do/Restaurants, etc. However, it was also a very amateurish frayed school binder...feeling like it was prepared in an afternoon with a Staples-run to buy a some sheet protectors. Not especially classy. But after reading the binder, I'm fairly certain the owners aren't really going for classy...one example being their continental breakfast. It might be more accurate to call this place a "Bed and Continental Breakfast", as breakfast was very minimalist. A bit surprising since "breakfast" is supposed to be one of the mainstays of a Bed and "Breakfast". No? In their defense, they call themselves an "Inn". Their standard fare was bread, cereal, hard-boiled eggs, oatmeal, and fruit. There is the option to upgrade and pay for additional items. Additionally, there was no place to eat. The owner's spin is that this experience is meant to be low key...e.g., bring it back to the room, eat at the pool, sit on the wicker chairs, etc. I prefer to eat at a table like a grown-up. Getting back to the A/C, our room had a window a/c with an additional floor-standing eye-sore of a fan. However, they weren't turned on until we entered the room. Which was a bit stuffy w/o any circulated air. We were instructed to turn off the A/C if we left for the day...or else the staff would do it for you. The later was done in our case, which didn't bode well for the chocolates from the local Penny Candy store that I left in the room. The hangers in the closet were annoying and old security hangers that you had to fidget with to snap back into place. There were some insects here and there which i guess is to be excepted with the screened-in hallways. But, when you add up this experience and have a month fly out of your suitcase when you get home, it can be a bit disconcerting, leaving one feeling skeezy, with a need for an urgent laundromat run. The bedding and linens situation also surprised me considering the owners have so many years in the hospitality industry. We were not given fresh towels every day. I'm sure it was another environmental decision, but it might be better if you asked the guests if they had a preference. The bed linens were also problematic. The sheets did not have a fresh pressed mint feel you would expect from a paid accommodation. While I'm sure they were clean, they felt worn and over-used. I know nothing about running one of these places, but isn't there some rule of thumb to replace sheets once they start to feel less than "new". The mattresses also had body indents from over-use. As for the hosts, we had very minimal contact...and you can see other rave reviews. Anyway, I wasn't expecting a 5-star classy hotel accommodation, but I was expecting "classic" and traditional. This is simply the best B&B you will ever find - on Cape Cod or anywhere - with or without your pets. It's hard to know where to start, so I'll go in random order... What immediately struck me is what I can only describe as understated luxury. Everything is perfect. These people know hospitality way beyond what most B&Bs, Inns or hotels know. Sure enough, I discovered they are former, long-time owners of a Relais & Chateaux establishment. That explained a lot. But the owners - they're ... (again, random order) ... Wonderful. Entertaining. Elegant. Charming. Invisible. Available. They understand that you are there because you need a break and fun and a rest, and they make room for you to have that and leave you to it - except if you need anything, at which time they're all over it. The room we stayed in was comfortable, spotless and had a lingering sense of (here's that phrase again) simple luxuries. We weren't traveling with our pets (don't mention it to the owners, but we aren't all that crazy about our pets). There were, however, a couple of guests with their furry companions, but I swear those wee dogs had been interviewed and screened - they were better behaved than any of our kids ever were. We left wondering why Tom and Alice (the owners) don't also open a restaurant - the breakfast they prepared was so amazing - surely a culinary gift such asthis needs some other outlet beyond breakfast! If you're visiting Cape Cod, if you LIVE in Cape Cod and you're sick of your Real Life, if you are thinking of traveling but don't know where to go - trust us on this- check out the Lamb and Lion in Barnstable. We had a very restful and relaxing 3 night stay. The Hosts Tom and Ali were very attentive and available for questions,directions and ideas were to go for sightseeing or dinner. This place is like a B&B but not quite. The buffet breakfast was perfect for us. Laid out 8- 10 and replenish often. Homemade yogurt served in icy cold jars with plenty of room for the fresh slice fruits and homemade granola. Homemade fresh hot muffins or coffee cake with homemade jams also bagels, English Muffins, bread for toasting . there was some cereals like cheerios available and hard boiled eggs. Ali offered to make fresh pancakes or omelette for a nominal charge. Fresh Coffee and tea and pitcher of juice . The nicest part is choices of places to eat this delightful meal. On a shaded deck overlooking a grassy and wooded area at a table with umbrella or poolside in a sunny area but table with umbrella also. The breakfast nook was very inviting as well with lovely wicker furnishings in the A/C overlooking either of above choices. There is a large solar heated saltwater pool and a big hot tub too. Towels are provided. Our room was very nice and the bed very comfortable with nice furnishings. My only complaint was the bathroom very small "ADEQUATE" but ya got the job done‼next time I'll call and book earlier and request a larger bathroom. I think we got the last available room. The room was spotless and plenty of room for putting clothes away and plugs for devices(very important these days) Also it's a very pet friendly Inn dogs were allowed poolside (not in pool) and there was a beach nearby were dogs were allowed to swim. This is a great place to come to if you're attending a Wedding or other function come a few days earlier or stay a few after . Lots a nearby local restaurants and attractions for day trips Tom has a full page with ideas and directions. I'll definitely look to come back. Call and ask for Tom to get a good deal. read more

Is it any wonder Lamb and Lion Inn has 5 stars? I shouldn't even need to write anything more, but I will. We primarily chose this inn because it was pet-friendly. And it truly is, accommodating in all ways for your pet. Tom and Ally are equally accommodating and we were made to feel comfortable and at home. From the charming and delicious continental breakfast to start your day with fresh, homemade everything - even their yogurt, to the heated salt water pool, kept grounds and cozy rooms, all the way to the billion thread count sheets and soft pillows winding up the day, it's just an outstanding place to stay no matter what your reason is. We had a perfect stay at the Lamb and Lion recently with our dog Harriet on New Year's Day. The room was clean and had a nice fireplace that was set up by the staff - we only needed to light the wick on the fire stater candle. The bed was very comfortable. The breakfast options were excellent (try the homemade granola and yogurt). And everyone there were so friendly and helpful. Highly recommended pet friendly accommodations. We stayed here for our 10 year wedding anniversary. This was our second stay at the Lamb and the Lion. What a great place!! Very clean and relaxing. The pool and the hot tub are a must. My wife and I stayed at the Lamb and Lion, and it was phenomenal! We stayed for four nights in October (slower season). It's wonderful that you get the BnB aspects of everything without any schedule to adhere to or surrendering of privacy. You can have breakfast delivered to you, you can eat in a common area, and you can eat it whenever you want. The rooms are all very nice, we stayed in Lair 1 which had a gas fire place, TV and DVD player, and private bathroom. It was very cozy, though we only spent our evenings here. Tom and Ali (owners) have wonderful recommendations for stuff to do, places to see, and restaurants to eat at. They have wonderful self guided tour guides so you can venture off on your own and see different sections of the cape and not miss anything. We would definitely stay here again. read more

Kudos to the Best - The Heck with the Rest! Mid-Cap, mid-September at the Lion & Lamb--when and where could you find a better time and place to relax and enjoy some vacation time???? We had a wonderful, fun-filled three-day stay at the Lion & Lamb, and I have to say it was one of our best B&B stays to-date (and we've had many stays all over the country). It was nice to find a B&B that was so pet-friendly and also so accommodating for us with a spacious, spotless, lovely furnished room (with a king bed, frig, microwave, and multi-head shower) which was right off a flowering courtyard with a solar-heated pool and temperature-ready jacuzzi, and included a delicious breakfast with homemade goodies to start our day. Tom and Ali are wonderfully, welcoming hosts and are certainly the perfect couple to run such a successful B&B. Our dog Pepper was traveling with us, and Tom (who in my opinion is very caring, genuine, and down-to-earth--one cool dude) was very knowledgeable in pointing out activities, points of interest, and restaurants which are pet-friendly. We really enjoyed our patio dining at the Black Cat Restaurant in Hyannis and our picnic-table dining at PJ's Family Restaurant (great lobster dinner, lobster roll and Portuguese kale soup--a specialty on the Cape) in Wellfleet which are both pet-friendly. Pepper enjoyed our Dolphin Fleet whale watch cruise out of Provincetown (yes, we did see many whales--Rights and Humpbacks--breaching, fluking, and spyhopping) and our Hyannis Harbor Tour (on a 63' catamaran Bay Spirit with Captain Bob Kohl at the helm and Jake, Bob's son, narrating all of the sites--lighthouses and the Kennedy Compound, etc.) out of Hyannis. While Ali was providing us with her delicious breakfasts and taking care of their office area and their 4 four-legged family members, Tom was always available to answer any questions we had and to provide anything we needed (i.e., a flashlight for our safe night-time doggie walks, and plastic wine glasses for our safe wine enjoyment while relaxing in the jacuzzi). Since I'm really into celebrity sightings, I thoroughly enjoyed hearing of Tom's experiences (some rather humorous and surprising) with all the celebrities (especially Kevin Bacon & Kyra Sedgwick, Joan Rivers, Ron Howard, John Travolta, Ryan O'Neal, and many more) he had served at his previously run inn/restaurant. We were sorry to say goodbye to the Lion & Lamb and Cape Cod and look forward to returning in the near future. Anyone staying with Tom & Ali at the Lion & Lamb will not be disappointed. read more

Lamb & Lion is the best B&B on Cape Cod. We have stayed here more than 10 times. Tom and Alice keep improving an excellent place to stay. Last stay was October '13. Her breakfast muffins, home made yogurt and baked goods are sooooo good! And the place is kid and pet friendly. We always get a room with a little kitchen. Having some meals in from local purveyors of excellent sea food and fresh vegetables is easy to do. That lets us go out and go upscale without breaking the bank. Be sure to speak with Tom about planning day trips, he is a wealth of information. A nature trail covering many acres is just across the street. Enjoy your stay. We will be back! read more

My girlfriend and I recently stayed here for a few days as a gift from her father. I didn't know what to expect as I had never been to a BnB before. Let me begin by telling you that there's NO research online that you can do that will prepare you for a stay at the L+L. Tom and Ali are the kindest most hospitable people you could ever imagine. Ali is a phenomenal cook and makes the single most amazing breakfast spreads. Tom Has the greatest suggestions on anything you could possible need an opinion on. Each morning I would wake up (I'm an early riser) and mozey over to the community area where there was a continental style breakfast and I would pour myself a cup of coffee. Made from locally grown beans. I would mix some of the homemade yogurt in a bowl with homemade granola and have myself a delicious little pick up. I went outside after that and took a nice little swim around the heated pool to get some early exercise in before my Gf would awake. Sounds like paradise doesn't it? If you get your order in on time, you can choose from a small list of hot, freshly prepared breakfasts that are then delivered ANYWHERE you want. The halls are painted with a cloudy, uplifting color so you literally feel like your marching through a good mood. They have a back deck thats great for star gazing at night. Had a few cigars out on the back deck just soaking up the beauty. They have a few little puppies on the grounds that are their pets. Cutest little things. I especially loved little willy, the pocket pom. He took a liking to me and would always come over and hang out for a belly rub. They have a small little nook where you will find community cups, a fridge, and a microwave, as well as a sink. All the small little amenities that you need to enjoy yourself and still have that "getting away" feeling. The rooms are simple unless they are suites but they do NOT lack in any department. Each with their own little design and theme. They have a great shower, and the bathroom is fully stocked with soap and lotions, and TP. The housekeeper keeps everything up to date and clean when you're out of the room. She's so fast and thorough that you barely ever know what happened. I definitely look forward to returning here and enjoying more of that hot tub in the center court. There's also great yoga and massage packages for purchase. Each room has TV's with dvd players. You can borrow a movie from them if you ask early enough and have a romantic night inn or you can borrow some beach equipment for free before heading to one of the many local beaches. It takes a lot to wake me up the night before we are supposed to get away from the big apple for a 5am drive up to a romantic weekend in cape cod, but when an inn keeper emails my girlfriend that they gave away the room we already paid for far in advance a minute before they turn their phones off at 10:01pm the night before we are set to leave, I'm awake. So here I am at 11pm yelping about how my weekend was just ruined by the lion in cape cod when first come, first serve to push the sale becomes thanks for the bread and get back at the end of the line. If that's any indication of how they plan on treating someone recovering from chemotherapy, a point made very clearly at the time of booking, then I guess I'll never know how delicious that homemade granola and yogurt might have been. The worst of it is they tried to place us in a smaller, less expensive room without any form of compensation other than we are free to cancel if we don't like it. Well, I don't like it, but as a professional writer, I don't mind shaking off a half night's sleep and writing a quick note to warn others of these bait and switch tactics to lure vacationers into nickel and dime schemes as if this was still 1992 and only NASA had access to the internet. As for groupon.com, they should have penalties for businesses that lure customers into booking vacations outside their site, a lesson learned for me. Back to lion, they claim we received a special rate, while their amateur website boasts a 50% off deal all Labor Day weekend for customers wishing to pay a select price depending on which room they select. My husband and I just spent 3 wonderful days here last week. The breakfasts were very delicious, especially the spinach quiche, muffins, granola,and yogurt all homemade. We relaxed in the hot tub and sat by the outdoor fireplace on the deck at night. I highly recommend it for a romantic getaway! read more

Just had an amazing weekend at the Lamb and Lion Inn. I used a Living Social deal (it was about to expire but Tom was very flexible and extended for us) and I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Not only do they allow dogs, but they have a great space for them to play outside. They have a hot tub that is open year round and cute electric fireplaces in each room. Everyone who worked there was VERY friendly. And Jill's cheese and herb bread is amazing. Overall a great weekend, I would definitely recommend visiting. read more

My friends brought me here for my bachelorette weekend two months ago and it was the best!! We stayed in the Barn-stable and it was quirky, private, and comfortable. It's a chance to get away without leaving all the comforts of home behind. This place has a heated saltwater pool and a hot tub that I still dream about. We had our own deck with a grill that we really enjoyed. We had a problem getting the grill on and Tom was right over in less than 10 minutes. Just like that we were back to enjoying our starlit dinner. Once the bugs got to be too much there was plenty of seating inside to comfortably sit and eat or to continue playing games (some which we brought, and some which we could get from them. How cool is that?). We went on a self-guided tour that we picked from a wide selection provided to us. We also grabbed wine and food from a market that was just down the road (again, that Tom and Ally told us about). I have never stayed at a place where the owners are so present and so willing to make sure we were comfortable and really enjoying our stay. I will be bugging my friends next spring about booking this place again for a girls summer getaway. I doubt that they will need much persistence. Thanks to everyone at the Lamb & Lion Inn. read more

If you choose to stay in at the Lamb and Lion Inn, you are seriously making one of the best decisions of your lifetime. Tom and Ali are the sweetest/greatest host in the world and they and their staff work really hard to keep the place squeaky clean for their guest. From the rooms to the pool to the Jacuzzi and overall scenery, you can't beat it. Nope, its' hidden for peace of mind yet also close for shopping and main attractions. I thought the deal was still too good to be true but it seems I am still in heaven every time I reflect back. I had an amazing time and am sure you will too! read more
