Lal Qeela is situated slightly away from the bustling streets of Alum Rock. I decided to give it a go having passed it many times.
The interior is beautiful, with traditional paintings surrounding you and elegant furniture however not the same could be said for the menu which looked as if it had come from a diner rather than a restaurant. Ignoring this minute detail, we still carried on to order the lamb platter, chicken Karahi and masoor dal with two rotis and naan and a jug of mango lassi.
Initially we were given a poppadom each, with a selection of the sauces : mango, yogurt and mint and chilli
The lamb platter was served with a base of spiced rice and fries, topped with seek kebabs, lamb chops and lamb tikka. The lamb was flavoursome and cooked very well, and accompanied the spiced rice brilliantly. The chicken Karahi had that lovely smoky taste, and , assured by the waiter, was freshly cooked. The masoor dal was a little bland, but still tasty and last but not least, the lassi was sweet, thick and rich.
I'd definitely go again! read more
